Good morning everyone from a cold, icy and snowy Inverness, I wish it would warm up a bit
A very warm welcome to all our new posters, lovely to have you join us
Wishing Gala and Mr Gala a very Happy 52nd Anniversary, enjoy your special day 💐🎉🥂
Happy Birthday to Shazzas DD and Jaxs DS
Well done with your walking Ash so pleased for you
I had a very lazy day yesterday doing absolutely noting but today I’m going to force myself out to the gym in an attempt to get some normality back. There’s a Zumba class on at 10am and then I’ll have a lovely warm dip in the pool and do the Aqua class - that should sort me out
Hoping everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning all from a frosty Glasgow, where it is -2°C.

Welcome Fifiw. Its nice to see new members on this thread and happy wedding anniversary to the Galas.

I did make 11.30am Mass yesterday, to find many had the same idea as us, it was much busier than usual.
I was surprised by the number of people, who had missed me being about and asked how I was, especially after I had to leave early, when I started coughing and DH hissed and beside me that I should go and sit in the warm sacristy and stop distracting everyone. 😚
It did give me a boost that people cared.

Wearing my blackcurrant coloured, faux fur coat, brought many comments from parishioners about how glam I was. Being glamorous, is certainly not how I would describe myself.
In my head it was just a warm, £15 bargain bought in Sainsbury's many years ago. It has paid for itself over and over again.
I caught the PP staring quizzically at me. Do you find people making comments to you in the street?, he asked.
I asked him what he meant.
Well, wearing real fur is frowned upon nowadays and people are abused for wearing it in public, he commented.
I burst out laughing and asked if he had ever seen a purple animal and also said, that I couldn't believe, that he actually thought I would wear real fur!!!
Unfortunately, the Deacon appeared, just as our very reserved PP was stroking my arm, to check what faux fur felt like. I am now a glamourous hussy in a fur coat!!!! The talk of the steamie, as we would say in Glasgow. 🤣
DH thought it was hilarious.

My star of a DH has just brought me an inhalation to try and clear my chest, as he is off to DS1's to watch the football and have lunch today, I have muscled my way in and will also be going.
I cannot have him seeing my beloved Dollie, without me!!
Unfortunately, he didn't screw the top back on the inhalation thingy. I am soaking wet!!!

I wish you all an enjoyable day, whatever your plans. As always, those in the sick bay and posters with family troubles are in my thoughts and prayers.

Good morning from a Black Country with a cloudless blue sky!

Yesterday was spent taking down the decorations, tidying up and making soup.

Gym this morning whilst MrJ goes on a bike ride.

Welcome to fifiw

Wishing you all a great Bank Holiday Monday.

Kalu Mon 02-Jan-23 08:28:07

Good morning Mick, morning all from very cold and frosty South Lanarkshire. The weather is so changeable.

Great to hear that you’re doing so well Ash.

Happy anniversary to the Galas.

We had a good afternoon/evening with DS and his family and are now waiting for them to get up. The middle one just wouldn’t settle last night, it must have been almost eleven when she finally got to sleep. The poor parents were frazzled.

They will go home later this afternoon so we’ll have a few hours of amusing the children before then.

Wishing everyone the best day possible.

Grandmabatty Mon 02-Jan-23 08:29:52

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -2° clear and frosty. It was a cold night. Ash the improvement in your health is wonderful. Harrigran I hope your shoulder is improving too.
Yesterday was busy cooking and preparing for family. Everything went off well and dd, sil and the boys popped in for a New Year visit on their way to sils parents. Mum was moderately difficult but I didn't let her nonsense bother me. Everyone was away by half six.
Today I'll continue to tidy up from yesterday. I'm taking the tree down and putting away all the decorations. I'm nipping up to dd's house with a hedgehog for sil. Not a real one! Cheese, pineapple and pickled onions on cocktail sticks. A very old fashioned treat which he loves. The rest of the day I will potter. Leftovers for all meals today. Fruit salad for breakfast, pate for lunch and steak pie for dinner. Have a good day all.

ShazzaKanazza Mon 02-Jan-23 08:30:54

I do love reading your posts Marydoll and your coat sounds fantastic. Enjoy visiting Dollie.
I must get ready for going to breakfast and get off my phone.
Speak soon x

Happy anniversary to TheGalas.

NanKate Mon 02-Jan-23 08:34:14

Good morning Mick and All.

Happy Birthday to the two birthday girls. 🥳🥳🥂🥂

A dry day in prospect here in South Bucks. Off to Disraeli’s home NT Hughenden Manor. It is the last day of their 12 Days if Christmas display in the Manor which we want to see. Then we will have a light lunch in the old stable block.

Yes the NHS came up trumps for our sick grandson on Boxing Day and beyond. Can’t fault them 👍

NanKate Mon 02-Jan-23 08:38:21

Happy 52nd WA Gala 🥂 It will be our 52nd in October. Yes the years rush by.

Kalu Mon 02-Jan-23 08:39:19

DH uses a nebuliser to keep his chest clear Marydoll, it was part of his discharge drugs etc. Something worth asking your GP/Meds. team for if you don’t already have one. I bought a spare, portable one for DH to use upstairs.

Gwenisgreat1 Mon 02-Jan-23 08:40:51

Good Morning from dry Harrogate.
Happy anniversary to the Galas
Happy birthday to your DD Shazza. My DD1 was also breech in the days before scans were the norm. After 48 or hrs of labour I was told she should have been a section!
Today hopefully I’ll be chatting on the phone all day. Might even make start on clearing Xmas bits., and reading unread posts
Have the best day possible folks

monk08 Mon 02-Jan-23 08:48:57

Good morning all from the Black country, looking out I can see the sun is shining.
Just a stroll round to the shops to stretch my legs, nothing required but I usually come back with something.
Welcome to Fifiw 👋 and any more newbies.
Happy Anniversary to the Galas 🥂🍾
Best wishes to anyone else celebrating.
Safe travels those on the move and virtual hugs where needed.
Enjoy your Monday and may you all find some 🌞.

Marydoll Mon 02-Jan-23 08:50:01

Thanks, Kalu, I have have used one for over forty years.
The last time I asked for meds for it, my GP refused, saying he would prefer me to go to hospital, if I got to that stage! Thinking has changed!
In the summer, when I was in a similar position, I was sent to A&E.

I have a rescue pack of steroids, but am not allowed steroids at the moment, because I'm already immunocompromised. Advice is to go to A&E if I'm really struggling.
I'm resisting, that's the last place I want to go, given the current situation.
However, I will be sensible.

Thankfully, I am in a much better place, than I was on Christmas day and am also doing my lung physio exercises, which are helping.

I hope Mr Kalu has a better year. 💐

Gingster Mon 02-Jan-23 08:50:40

Good morning all and the forecast is for a dry day.

Yesterday was lovely with Dd, eldest and youngest dgd’s. Cinema (Matilda - a lovely film) followed by a late lunch in a busy pub/restaurant. A nice girlie afternoon.

Today our U3A have their monthly meet. A magician is coming to talk. I might or might not go. If my friend wants to, I’ll pick her up and go along with her..

I’ll pop up to town and buy myself a watch. Mine must have fallen off my wrist while walking along the beach in Suffolk. Probably while throwing the ball for little pooch. I’m lost without it. I did order one from Amazon but it wasn’t what I wanted and the clasp was stuck. 😤.

Happy anniversary to the galas . We are 52 years as well!

Hope to finish my book today ‘The girl with the louding voice’.
Very good.

Look after you bites Shazza . What bit you? So annoying!

Enjoy the day, all. 🙋‍♀️

Thorntrees Mon 02-Jan-23 08:53:13

Good morning all. It’s a bit wet in our part of Shropshire at the moment but hopefully it will dry up soon.
Had a lovely chat with youngest daughter in Canada last night, hope she will get over to the UK this summer- haven’t seen her for a couple of years.
Sorted the freezer yesterday, fridge to do today then can do my on line shopping order.
Hope everyone has a nice day, thoughts with those who are unwell, sad or worried.

Gingster Mon 02-Jan-23 08:54:16

Beechnut your post made me sad. The festive period is now over, so get back to normal and I’m sure you’ll feel better. It a strange time for lots of people. ❤️

EkwaNimitee Mon 02-Jan-23 09:02:02

Good morning Mick and everyone from clear and chilly Carlisle where it was 1C a short while ago.
Welcome to you,*Fifiw*, nice to hear from new posters.

There was no going out for me yesterday, by mid-morning the rain became steady and lasted until late afternoon. No gardening, no walking therefore! I pootled about doing little jobs and finished off the papers and their puzzles.
Today, another load of laundry and I might haul the vacuum out but I'm trying to bear in mind that it's a public holiday....
I'd like to be out in the garden but feel some sort of infection threatening, possibly my ears and I don't want to encourage that. There's plenty of little things to amuse myself with, at this time of year I like to cast an eye over my shelves and drawers etc looking for unused and unwanted stuff to cast out. I shall certainly be casting out the Christmas cards. I used to wait, impatiently, for the traditional Twelfth Night but I'm going to start my own tradition of making it January 2 !

You made me chuckle Marydoll...giving your poor PP a dubious rep now! I'd like to see you in that purple faux fur.

Do have a good day, all.

SusieB50 Mon 02-Jan-23 09:05:39

Good morning from a bright start to the day in East London . Woke late so still to read posts. I’m still marvelling at the wonders of my cataract surgery done 2 weeks ago .Amazing and so much better than the first one 6 years ago . I will need to tweak my reading glasses though. Plan today is to have a good walk as getting stiff without my usual swimming and gentle gym sessions . Maybe see DS and family. My good friends return today from a short break in Spain , sadly her MiL aged 99 was taken to A+E two days ago very poorly and was still waiting for a bed last night . Total carnage there apparently. Her children are taking turns to be with their Gran, but friend is so upset that she’s not there for her.

Alygran Mon 02-Jan-23 09:06:26

Good morning from North Yorkshire. Beautiful clear blue sky here. I watched the sun rise as I emptied the dishwasher.
DD2 is just about to go for a run. She’s going to help take the decorations down and get them into the loft before she leaves for home (Peak district) at lunch time.
We had a quiet day yesterday.
Congratulations to the Galas
Hope everyone has a good day

Greyduster Mon 02-Jan-23 09:07:21

I’ve just spotted a flock of fieldfares roosting in a tree opposite my garden. They looked lovely in the winter sunshine, but usually herald a very cold snap. Winter drawers on, folks!

Wyllow3 Mon 02-Jan-23 09:22:30

Good Morning fromS Yorks. Sunny here!

Had a nice. Chat with DS last night and Quakers was a peaceful warm space.

Just the gym and prepping for decorators tomorrow, they are making good on damp work not the fully monty so not too much to move out of the way. Must top up tea, coffee, get biscuits in. (I leave them to it). Its a woman decorator works with her son, and feels comfy to have around.

Happy Anniversary Gala 52 years..yes where does time go…

welcome to newcomers.

Oh no, Greyduster, please, no cold snap!

I also like things getting back to normal. I actually prefer to see family at less pressurised times.

Also that services I use are “Back to normal” (well the new normal at least!”)

Blossoming Mon 02-Jan-23 09:26:16

Good morning Mick and everyone. A cold bright morning in this corner of Lancashire, currently 2°C.

I was able to get out for a walk to the river yesterday after many weeks stuck indoors. It was very cold, still and dry. No icy patches to catch the unwary. Mr. B is taking me out today for a change of scenery.

Marydoll, I am reminded of something my mother used to say about some people being ‘all fur coat and no knickers’ though I’m sure that would never apply to your good self grin. I will keep an eye out for purple rabbits on our walk today!

May you all have a good day and a warm welcome to our new posters 🌹
