Just bought a new car!

This is the first time I have had to buy one on my own, although the previous one was in my name because my OH had Parkinsons - and I am hoping I have done the right thing!

We have always had VW Polos, and the current one is 10 years old, lives outside and is a bit damp inside (which causes demisting problems) and has no parking sensors. I felt that I would feel safer in a newer car with some modern refinements.

I have found one which has parking sensors and only has 11,000 on the clock in spite of being registered in Oct 2019. My SIL is a mechanic and he has looked at it for me and thinks it is worth the money and that I am getting a fair deal on my old car.

It is still a large chunk out of my savings, but I felt that I needed to have a car I would feel more secure about in order to be out and about. I live a long way from the nearest town.

I just hope I have done the right thing!

Sounds like a good decision.

Enjoy OP! ....we bought a 2019 VW Golf lasy summer.....I had had my old focus 12 years and it was starting to fall apart.... I've always had fords or vauxhall but always wanted a VW ..... was quite surprised how expensive used cars are these days...but hoping it will last me another 10 years and get me at least to state pension age.....my mum v kindly put 5k towards ours so very lucky there ....ours is a dark grey colour ...It makes me smile everytime I get in it........I am forever cleaning it ....still haven't let the grandkids eat in it .....thought i would have given in on that rule by now ....but just wanting it to stay nice

Well done Luckygirl!
Like you, the car I drive was always in my name but DH was by my side when I bought it.

My df a widow in her 80s, has bought an electric car , 2nd hand but still expensive.
She has had it a year now with very few problems.

She bought it with an interest free loan from the Scottish Government.
She doesn't do long journeys but everyday for getting into town or to her DD.

I'm looking on with admiration at both of you.

I had to buy my present car myself around this time last year.Although Paw had not driven for some years before he died, his was a reassuring presence when I made the final decision.
Do this time I took a good friend with me, knowing that she can haggle with the best of them, whereas I know I have MUG stamped on my forehead!
Sure enough she got me an extra £500 on the part exchange and a couple of “optional extras” thrown in for free.
I wish I had her skill!
I bought an automatic and have never looked back, so so much easier to drive both in traffic and on the motorway where is sort of does it all by itself!

Enjoy your new car, Lucky girl. Having had reverse parking sensors for 6 years I can assure you they are wonderful! We are just about to get an electric car so that will be a new venture for us.
