Am currently waiting for Dyno-Rod to come and sort out my toilet! I live alone and spend most of my time in my home alone, but over the weekend I had my daughter and partner here from Friday night to Saturday night and my other daughter, husband and two children Saturday lunchtime until Sunday lunchtime, It was our Christmas, as I tested positive for Covid on Christmas Eve and did not see anyone for 2.5 weeks.
Saturday lunchtime I was cooking a big Christmas meal when the toilet decided to fill up to the top with water. There appeared to be a leak behind the toilet on the floor and I am worried it will ruin my tiled floor. Currently towels on floor behind loo.
We had to just use it for a wee and not flush in case it flooded, and be creative about other things. Talk about bad timing! GRRRR!!! I do not have a second toilet.
Hoping it will not cost me the earth. It starts at £170, so hoping it won't cost any more.

When I got up today there was a scattering of snow on my lawn and the lean-to roof was covered with a light layer. I was surprised by how much colder it was today. It's 2.40pm and currently 4°c. I am in Essex.

I hope your CT scan went well.

Marydoll Mon 16-Jan-23 12:34:26

I have never had chicken pox, despite my three children catching it and teaching children who had it.
However, a recent blood test showed I was immune, so I must have unknowingly had it.

I have to have a different vaccine for shingles, because I'm immunocompromised.

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 16-Jan-23 12:08:49

I managed to avoid Chickenpox from my brother, my children, MrOops (who caught it from them) and my grandchildren.

The Shingles vaccine is ‘live’ and I could potentially get Shingles from it!!

But it’s done now so we will see.

It is just about still good morning from North Yorkshire, and hope that your scan went well Mick. You have probably had it done by now. I am at the moment sat in Costa with laptop etc here. Day started badly with bad cramp at 4am , followed by no hot water from tap although shower ok, and no internet either. My back decided to join in the troublemaking too so it has taken me ages to get even dressed . In the end I decided I would decamp with laptop to coffee shop to at least read emails and see what is going on and then get back to sorting stuff out. Even the flipping coffee shop wasnt working well!! Their dishwasher had packed up etc and only using take out cups. This is when my habit of carrying my china mug with me comes into effeect . Ha Ha Hooray! So not many in here because of lack of cups so can sit here eking out my coffee, keeping warm and catching up. So it has been a very dark morning here and finally got some light but flurries of snow to add to the scene. Not enough to settle down here but expect it will be settling up Swaledale. Spent yesterday at home on a sorting out day. Can see by the recycle bag that I have done quite a bit but oh , you would not know if you came in. Part of why I came out , there are still lots of things waiting to be dealt with but my brain needs a rest from that so here I am. Today I am going mad and buying an Airfryer. I have tried to read as much as I can about them and it does look as though I should save time and money as I live alone , but a bit scary to be spending such a lot of money on it. It should also mean that I am more likely to cook what I would like to eat, rather than thinking it isnt worth putting the oven on for just me etc. Well we shall see how things go. My best buy so far has been a long quilted gilet with a hood for £10 from a charity shop. It is a stupid colour - white - but my goodness is lovely and warm and I can put it on over whatever I have on in the house. Reckon I will save the £10 in heating before long!! Any good tips from other airfryer users, I would be pleased to hear them. Ah well no excuse I must return to the fray and hope to have sorted wretched internet etc out by tomorrow - or it will be another morning sat in here again. Hope all your days go well

Morning all. Very cold and grey here at the moment- the sky looks full of something. Just got back from coffee morning group, where it was nice and warm except my feet got cold, so they’re still thawing out.
Mick I hope the scan has gone alright and that you don’t feel too tired.
Some ironing beckons, so I’d better stir myself.
Hope you all have the best day you can 💐.

Good morning everyone. Clear blue skies in my corner of Lancashire this morning, currently 2°C with a very chill wind. I’m hoping to get out for a short walk later. Have a good day.

Oops, that last was for
Grandmattie

I was a student teacher before I caught chickenpox and these normal childhood ailments' are so much worse when your older. Do you remember when parents held parties so children could share their mumps, measles and chickenpox and so get them over with?

Grandmadinosaur Mon 16-Jan-23 10:17:41

Good morning all from blue skied East Yorkshire.

Late today as I stayed in bed as not feeling too good. Came on yesterday after carrying a heavy bag just a few yards to a charity shop. Mm not sure what’s going on there but hopefully upcoming tests etc will come up with answers.

I’ve read through the threads so thoughts to all that are suffering etc.

Safe travels NannyJan look forward to hearing reports from there. It’s a place on my list to visit.

Kalu Mon 16-Jan-23 10:16:30

Good morning from Glasgow. Very chilly with a light frost but a plus point, blue skies and sunshine.

As it will be another indoors day, I think I will do some craft work to pass the time.

Best wishes to all for a good day.

hollysteers Mon 16-Jan-23 10:11:48

Good morning Mick and all from Sunnyside northwest Lancashire coast.
Lovely day in the lakes yesterday with SUNSHINE as Ekwanimitee said😎. The snow covered fell behind Grasmere looked like a big slab of Christmas cake. What stunning scenery we have in these isles! Your photo reminded me of it Grammaretto
Back to earth today with a leaking radiator and I have turned the central heating off…
All the best for your scan Mick, I know Banbury well, going to the market every week with my Aunt during my long summer school holidays there.
Glad the service was more bearable grandMattie and thoughts to anyone with worries.

grandMattie Mon 16-Jan-23 09:55:39

Oood, never say never. I caught mumps, German measles and chickenpox from my children within six months, I was 40 at the time. It was horrible!

grandMattie Mon 16-Jan-23 09:53:00

🌷🌷🌷🫂 Marydoll. Nothing wrong with groundhog days…

Sar53 Mon 16-Jan-23 09:24:05

Good morning from a very damp and dismal Essex by the sea.
DH has gone to work on his boat, although he may struggle to get there as there are month long road works starting today and he has also done something to his hip. He won't give in and admit that it is very painful. Men eh !!!!
I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere. Housework awaits and last night's episode of Happy Valley. We had the snooker on til it finished at about 11.
I hope all goes well with your scan today Mick. Look after yourselves everyone else and may your day be the best it can be xx

Good morning from Durham. I hate this time of year with dark mornings and unpredictable weather - it was cold and frosty first thing when I fed the birds, but it’s now snowing - big flakes and the garden is already covered.
DD2 is driving to Edinburgh and says it’s been very icy so far.
I’m meeting a friend later for coffee - I hope the temperature rises and it’s safe to drive. I live in a cul-de-sac, a steep incline from the main road and I’m right at the top - at least there’s no risk of flooding, but I do catch the wind. ( house does, not me). Getting down the street can be tricky, but getting back up can be nigh on impossible.
Hope Mick’s appointment goes to plan and Marydoll can amuse herself while she’s under ‘house arrest’.
Best wishes to all. X

EkwaNimitee Mon 16-Jan-23 08:55:15

Good morning Mick and everyone from snowy but bright Carlisle where it's minus 1 currently. I shall stay firmly in!
Yesterday was lovely, I was out in the front garden, lifting my unsatisfactory little cherry tree which I heeled in in the back. I was pleased to see it had actually made root growth and the hole wasn't full of water so drainage is reasonable. Something bigger and tougher is replacing it but not today!

I'll spend the morning on laundry and housework and continue with a little reorganisation of things plus catch up with my pile of magazines.

Enjoy your holidays and trips out and hoping all of you under the weather see improvements.

Alygran Mon 16-Jan-23 08:52:01

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s damp and grey at the moment.
Off on the village ‘striders and strollers’ walk at 10. I expect to get very muddy.
flowers for annsixty, marydoll and greyduster and anyone else who would like them.
Safe travels, meet-ups and scans.
Have a good day.

Good morning from a very wet and cold East London . Yesterday was busy and lively .DD and 2 GDC stayed Saturday night after going to the immersive VanGogh experience. They all enjoyed it . Both GDC are early risers and are raring to go the moment their eyes are open . Pancakes and chaos reigned! This eve DS is hopefully popping in to put the legs back on a table I have bought from our local hub Late DH made our dining room table many years ago but it’s too large and heavy now , an emotional decision to get rid of it though . The sellers very kindly delivered it as they co- incidentally know my DS ! DH also made our bed also heavy and difficult to move but that’s a step too far at present 😕.

luluaugust Mon 16-Jan-23 08:48:04

Good morning all from a grey, wet W Kent. Early start as the gas man has come to call! it is a Monday morning. After he has gone everything will have to be put back and a pile of ironing awaits.
Best wishes to all

Nannagarra Mon 16-Jan-23 08:38:22

Good morning from wet and windy Sefton. Not surprisingly, the roofers haven’t appeared.
Childminding for us; later we’re on puppy sitting duty.
Very best wishes for your scan Mick.
Thinking of you all.
❄️ 🌬 ❄️

Good morning from the Black country less windy calm before the storm.
Mick hope all goes well with the scan.
NannyJan have a lovely time and safe travels.
I found another egg buried amongst my lilies yesterday looks like the fox has made another visit.
Will reunite myself with the duster today methinks it may be lonely.
DH has a fishing meeting at the club this evening so I'll have an empty.
Take care all enjoy your day whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.

Taichinan Mon 16-Jan-23 08:32:23

Good morning Mick and all. -2° here on the Angus coast, but my BBC weather app is showing a lovely display of 🌞🌞🌞🌞, so I'll take that! Nothing much on today, although hopefully Andy the Handiman is coming to investigate a small leak in the kitchen. If he doesn't make it I shall have to give in and find a plumber - but their call-out charges are so high.
I've already forgotten the names of who is doing what today. Nothing sinister, but I find I'm useless at remembering names without a picture of the person in my mind. However, let's see what I can do. Glad you found the service more bearable Grandmattie. Safe travels today Nannyjan to Budapest and enjoy your short break. Lovely photo Grammaretto, but how annoying to lose your glasses - I'd be lost without mine. Ash I'm so glad your feeling back to normal now and looking forward to going back to France. Marydoll just coorie doon out of the cold - you're in the best place today. And enjoy every one of those 19° Urms, sunburn and all! I'm sorry for all those I have missed on my memory exercise trip, but have the best day you can and keep warm. January always seem to be double the length of every other month, but it always comes to an end x

Gingster Mon 16-Jan-23 08:30:12

Good morning all and I noticed a smattering of snow on the conservatory roof. Very wet here in Essex.

Safe and problem-free journey nannyjan 🤞. Enjoy your break.

Hope all goes well for you today Mick.

Hope you feel better soon annsixty and Marydoll.

Yesterday was pleasant with Dd , twin gs’s and little gd. We played charades and she did her weekend homework. Such a little academic. 😉. The boys and grandad watched football on tv.

Today I’m meeting my friend for lunch at a local pub in town. It will be a long-un! I’ll walk up and then back home. Her daughter is my gd’s teacher. We’ve known each other since before the ‘girls’ were born . About 50 years.

Have a ‘good’ day all and keep cosy!

Liberty Mon 16-Jan-23 08:21:39

Good morning from a grey and drizzly Suffolk. I’m meeting a friend for coffee this morning having ‘ stood her up’ on 3rd because of my carelessness in transferring things from my 2022 diary to my 2023 one. She has forgiven me! I will at least buy cake with our coffee.

Hope the day is a good one for all. I feel so privileged to be able to afford to keep warm and well fed in these these very cold days when so any people here and elsewhere can’t.
