Hubby and his aftershave!

Mum used Youth Dew and I went through a Cinnabar and Opium phase, then in 1985 Calvin Klein launched Obsession and it’s been my usual ever since, even though I’ve had the odd dalliance with Jo Malone over the years.

My Mum also used to wear Youth Dew. I don't dislike the smell but very little of it is needed. Unfortunately my Mum had almost no sense of smell so because she couldn't smell it she would spray it very liberally. I've seen people back away from her because it was so overpowering!

Used to be a florist and hyacinths and some lilies would give me terrible headaches.

I used to love Poison until one day a rep walked into the office and said "Pooh! Who's got Vicks on?

If you are getting headaches caused by your husband's aftershave, then the place for it is not the bathroom cupboard, but the bin!

If he wears it at the gym or anywhere else where you do not accompany him, he will still smell of it when he comes home again, and you will still be getting headaches.

Ignoring the problem is no good either, as often an allergy to one thing escalates into allergic reactions to anything that has been made with whatever the thing causing your reaction is.

it is honestly not worth the risk, as developing an allergy is unfortunately so much easier than curing it!

Didn't realise that some smells can trigger migraine. Had given a friend some hyacinths in a basket at Christmas. Came back from hokuday to find she had been suffering migraine until she placed the basket outdoors. I learned from her tgat this is a very common trigger, smells. Suppose perfumes may have natural ingredients in them hence the headaches/migraines.

My sisters had to apply their Youth Dew after they left the house, it drove our Dad mad!
My husband wears Tom Ford which is very strong when it's first on, but settles down after about 20 minutes and then it's beautiful.
For me, not to be able to wear perfume would be devastating, It's something I so enjoy but of course if it caused issues, I'd reluctantly give it up!

I love wearing perfume and wore rive gauche and opium in my late teens . Poison and a Giorgio Armani one gave me headaches. My daughter worked in a high end clothes shop in Bond Street during uni and can’t stand any Oud perfumes because the Middle Eastern women who were big customers drenched themselves in it .
I’m a dental hygienist and wasn’t allowed to wear perfume when working due to allergies, migraines etc. tbh I wore perfume to work to counteract the patients smells , garlic , smoking , bo, halitosis were far worse than my perfume 🫤

Strong smells are difficult for we headachey folk to cope with. However, I must admit that I love the scent of Brut which makes me go weak at the knees.

I love Estee Lauder Youth Dew! Have worn it since high school, and I'm in my 8th decade. I used to have everything in that line. I also love Chloe, but sadly you cannot get the real Chloe anymore. That was another favorite that I started wearing in my late 20s. My husband loves it. I bought some recently, and it wasn't even a remote approximation of the real thing.

I adored Chloe back in the 80s. It really doesn't smell the same anymore. My friends at school all wore Estee Lauder White Linen. Anything by EL smells like cat pee on me! My MIL liked Chanel No5 (my favourite) but that smelt truly awful on her.
Old Spice reminds me of my grandfather. Brut reminds me of teenage boyfirends!!

Red Door is my favourite but the original is now unobtainable. A few years ago they changed the bottle and the perfume just wasn’t the same. So sad as I loved its lingering presence.
In my youth, I wore Blue Grass again beautiful.
Once wore a perfume and had to stop wearing it. It was pleasant to me but was told to some it was BO smelling. Oh couldn’t have that.

I'm remember my dad and his Old Spice, my goodness it was strong. I love a man smelling all clean and fresh, but some do go overboard with their aftershave.
I pass some school pupils when I walk my dog in the afternoon and you can smell the boys coming a mile off. It wasn't like that when I was at school, they hardly washed their faces.
I find Poison too strong and another perfume that gives me a headache is Eternity.

My son, who does 99% of his Christmas shopping on Amazon, gave my husband Old Spice as a one present.
It’s a good job our romantic life has waned whilst I’m in plaster as it’d be like snogging my dad!

I love Youth Dew too but only ever wear it if going out at night and then very sparingly

Poison is horrid. I always stick with my Chanel No 5…..lately I
found my granddaughter spraying it on to go to school. Expensive tastes!

I gave my mil my youth dew as it brought my asthma on. She wore it every time she visited!

Ah yes, poison - good name for it! I recall an ex colleague who wore it - you could smell her before she arrived and long after she left!

goodness you are lucky yours wears aftershave...I despair of mine, he thinks he smells wonderful all the time without it even though he's been told otherwise by his female children and me!

Like a previous poster I am a COPD sufferer and any perfume affects me very badly. I used to love wearing scents but haven't been able to for a long time now.
Likewise strong smelling house cleaning products and disinfectants.I was a lover of Zoflora,until I had to go into hospital after using it. I was struggling to breathe.

I received a bottle of Opium as a gift around the mid ‘80s. Not only did it give me a headache but also a blistering rash on my neck and chest. I do not consider myself an allergy prone person at all.

My son used to use a brand of deodorant spray which caused me slight breathing problems when he still lived at home. He thought I was overreacting when I said he must only spray it in his room with the door shut. I later learned while on a training course, that some aerosols can trigger asthma attacks and though I'm not diagnosed asthmatic some sprays affect me in that way. I sometimes had to leave the room if students in school sprayed deodorant, or open all the windows, which didn't go down well in winter! The school banned spraying deodorants or perfumes except in changing rooms after PE but some students break rules all the time. They seemed to find it funny if I had to leave the room. If I didn't succumb to a fit of coughing and wheezing it certainly gave me a headache. Sadly these things are very real! My ex also had one particular aftershave which gave me a slight headache but fortunately he didn't wear it too often or to excess.
