Hubby and his aftershave!

Some smells are really headache inducing. Anyone wearing the perfume Poison gives me such bad head immediately. The cupboard is the best place for it!

Yes some scents and aftershaves are extremely powerful and literally knock you out. I sometimes think the wearers can't actually smell it themselves. My husband has one like that and it literally made me gasp but he was complaining it hardly smelt at all. He also leaves a trail of smell wherever he goes.
Poison does the same to me especially if I am trapped in a car with someone wearing it.

My late MIL used to wear Estee Lauder's Youth Dew, which always gave me a headache. I think it's a horrible smell.

I agree about ‘Poison’ - someone got me a bottle - gave me such a headache. I gave it away to a young family member.

I used to use that one as it was a gift from DP, funny thing was it hardly used to have any scent at all to me, but friends said it gave them a headache so I gave it away.I used to like Youth Dew but agree it’s a strong scent.
A shame OP as it’s an expensive after shave but you can’t help it affecting you.Mind you, I do like men to have a lovely scent about them send him over my way.😆

I went to a Verdi recital at the Royal Chapel in Versailles on Saturday night and someone was wearing a very strong perfume that was "catching in my throat" all evening. Trying to supress the fits of coughing ruined the evening. Not just me, I might add.

HowVeryDareYou. I am the same with Youth Dew. I have had to leave a fair few theatres and cinemas because of it.

Back in the late 60’s/early 70’s I remember a taxi driver telling me he would not accept a fare if she was wearing “Youth Dew” as his cab would stink of it for days after!

My mother used to wear Youth Dew so it makes me sad rather than headachey ☹️

LRavenscroft, is it more palatable if he uses only a tiny bit? maybe he is too liberal with it.

I don't think cologne is meant to be splashed on like after-shave of years gone by. It is meant more for their body rather than face.

One of my favourite aftershaves is CK One (Calvin Klein). So lemony and fresh, I like it so much, I used to wear it myself.

I used to work with a man who wore Eau Sauvage, which I liked, at a safe distance.

What I really preferred, though, was being in a lift in the morning surrounded by men with nice, showered bodies and freshly laundered shirts.

Yeah, a scent can remind you of people and places for years after can’t it? My fave Aunt used to like Apple Blossom, was that Helena Rubenstein? I used to feel happy when I sniffed that.

Eau Savage is quite something in discreet amounts.....

Having been a patient and on the other side of nursing staff ( and others) wearing perfumes I was always very conscious of being overpowering with anything I put on. I feel for all concerned.

My darling dad, who only ever used Old Spice, would comment when faced with someone wearing an overpowering aftershave/cologne: "cor, smells like a Turkish wrestler's jockstrap" - a phrase I use to this day, particularly when DH has been somewhat liberal with the Sauvage ...

Mine doesn't wear anything like that. He says 'Real men don't wear scent'.

I love aftershave smells and am always trying to get DHto wear more. I agree about Youth Few and Poison. A favourite of mine is Opium which is heady and exotic. I expect I'm knocking a few people out.

I had a manager who literally dragged his desk across the office to get away from a colleague wearing Youth Dew.
He was an ‘interesting’ character, imagine John Cleese style ranting whilst doing it!

I stick a couple of strong smelling xmas present candles in the garage.
They were smelling out the house. Which is the point I guess for some.
What I have to remember, is to bring them back inside when the present giver comes here.

I bought Himself a bottle of Eau Savage at Christmas. Brings back memories whenever he puts some on as it was his cologne of choice when we got married almost 50y ago. It’s lovely and citrusy but best applied sparingly so that it doesn’t overpower.

If your husband is leaving such a trail of scent behind him in every room LRavenscroft I would hazard a guess that he’s splashing it on way too liberally. Suggest to him ‘less is more’. Subtle is good.
