Keeping warm

This morning I read Cari Rosen on Twitter saying
“I’ve gone backpacking for a month with fewer clothes than I’m currently wearing in bed”

I know the feeling- even with my new warm duvet and a living canine hottie called Rosie I seem to put on as many garments when I go to bed as I put on in the morning!
Not the most glamorous, but needs must!
Go on, how many layers are you wearing in bed - and don’t be like Marilyn Monroe and say only Chanel No. 5 because I won’t believe you!

10.5 tog down duvet with nothing but bed socks for me (my feet are always freezing)
OH is like a furnace giving off heat, if he’s away I use a hot water bottle.
I normally like to have a window ajar but it’s just too cold & I can’t justify losing any of the warmth from the house through it!

I wear a short cotton nightie and have a light-weight synthetic duvet - no idea of the Tog rating.

And the window opened an inch.

GagaJo Wed 18-Jan-23 16:59:47

T-shirt nightie, socks, fluffy socks, zip up, long length fleece robe thing. 2 duvets. Fleece blanket. Hot cat.

Jaxjacky

I wear nothing, electric blanket is put on my side about half an hour before we go up.

Same as me.

I feel the cold and have never felt hot even during the menopause, but am always warm in bed, even with window open. I think a good quality down duvet makes a lot of difference.

I find my 1 tog duvet too hot, so sleep under a sheet with an added light throw when it is cold. I wear a crop top and pants and often need to cool off by putting a bare arm and leg onto the cooling gel pads placed along one edge inside the bed. It is said that we should sleep in a cool bedroom and I take it to the extreme with a window ajar and no heating.
I am way past the menopause (76), but have never got rid of the hot sweats! How I would love to snuggle under a comforting duvet!

Vest, t shirt, fleece, pyjama bottoms socks and a hat. Hot water bottle and the dog. I get up to go to the loo so many times in the night I’d freeze if I wore less. I do, sometimes, take the fleece off. I did read that you’re more likely to struggle to get to sleep if you’re too hot than if you’re too cold but I’m not prepared to try that out though. I really feel the cold these days. I used to be a real winter person when I was younger.

Camisole top and shorts. 10.5 tog duvet which lies on top of the fleecy duvet cover instead of inside it. Means the duvet cover snuggles closer.

FlexibleFriend Wed 18-Jan-23 16:04:31

I wear knickers and long t shirt top and sleep under a summer weight duvet 4.5 tog with the window open all year round. I wake up covered in sweat every every morning.

Visgir1 Wed 18-Jan-23 15:58:24

My Winter quilt is 4.5 tog..
Impressed so many can have 10.5 tog.
7 year post Menopause still boiling hot.. Cotton PJ shorts and a T-shirt vest for me.

MiniMoon Wed 18-Jan-23 15:46:48

I have a 10.5 tog duvet on my bed. On top of that I have a fleece throw. I wear either pyjama bottoms and vest top, or a satin nightdress with a cotton tee shirt over. My dog was a useful hot doggy bottle, but unfortunately she is no longer with us.

Ginny42 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:59:20

My goodness, I'm such a wimp by comparison! I get into a warmed bed in a thermal vest, a cotton nightdress, and lightweight dressing gown, under a duvet and quilted throw. I tuck a spare pillow at my back which keeps me cosy.

I don't have a DH or a dog!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:55:21

Medium weight duvet and moisturiser, no matter how cold it is outside I have to have the window open.

AreWeThereYet Wed 18-Jan-23 13:54:44

10.5 tog duvet and a T-shirt and shorts. Window is always open, and when it's been down in the minus figures recently I've added a fleecy cover to the bottom of the bed to keep my feet warm.

JaneJudge Wed 18-Jan-23 13:54:42

I just wear a vest and pants in bed. I suppose it might be a good time for going through the menopause

cornergran Wed 18-Jan-23 13:53:44

10.5 tog duvet, fleecy pyjamas and my trusty hot water bottle. A fleece blanket doubled up on my side of the bed helps me stay cozy, Mr C is never cold.

Lexisgranny Wed 18-Jan-23 13:52:22

Oh, forgot to add we are thinking of upgrading our 15 tog electric blanket to a 16.5 one and always warm the bed with an electric blanket. Dh has thyroid problem and feels the cold as much as I do.

LucyLocket55 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:49:10

Always got cold feet. Wear long sleeved nightdress, 15 tog duvet and electric blanket which is on when I get into bed and I turn it off after about 15/20 mins.

Lexisgranny Wed 18-Jan-23 13:47:53

What a lot of hot blooded Grans we have. I’m just the opposite, I can’t sleep unless I’m warm as toast, but the for first time I have started wearing bed socks. The rest of my nightwear consists of cosy pjs, and a M&S thermal vest (looks like a fine long sleeved t-shirt). By the bed is a very warm cuddly dressing gown, ready to put on when I wake up, I’m afraid my days of nightdresses cut on the bias with spaghetti straps are well over!

NotAGran55 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:47:26

10.5 tog quilt, weighted blanket, pyjamas. No electric blanket, hot water bottle or animal .
No heating, small window open.

Callistemon21 Wed 18-Jan-23 13:42:37

I used to get cold feet but they don't seem as bad lately.

But bedsocks or those socks you get free on a plane journey help.

kittylester Wed 18-Jan-23 13:41:13

10.5 tog duvet, t shirt and pj bottoms.

If it gets really cold, there is always dh to snuggle up to.

growstuff Wed 18-Jan-23 13:40:17

10.5 tog duvet, cotton PJs and long fleecy bed socks because I get cramps if my feet get cold. I don't like the weight of an extra cover. If I'm sleeping on my own, I wrap my duvet round me, so I look like a badly wrapped parcel.

Norah Wed 18-Jan-23 13:35:48

Depends on why I go to bed.

Georgesgran Wed 18-Jan-23 13:33:13

I wore nothing for years, although I always took a nightdress on holiday in case of emergency. In later years, when I shared a room with a friend or my sister-in-law or DD’s, I ended up wearing the nightdress. On holiday over Christmas, I’d packed some ridiculous fleecy Christmas pyjamas, but was really grateful for them and continue to wear them now. Usually I am quite hardy, but I’ve just changed to a 10.5 tog duvet this morning.
