As Mick is away, I thought I’d open up as he usually takes a break from doing so when not at home.

Good morning from a cloudy part of La Sarthe.

Yesterday the NE wind made it bitterly cold so I was glad to be indoors. It marked 12 weeks since I had open heart surgery to repair my mitral valve. This means I can stop taking the extra medication prescribed for this period, mainly blood thinners. It also means I’m now safe to lift heavy items like the iron!!

For anyone facing this treatment, I can honestly say I experienced little pain at any stage although the cardiac rehab team advised continued regular use of paracetamol, which I didn’t need to take after the early weeks. Similarly, procedures related to my after care (removal of stitches, etc) were not a problem, despite warnings to the contrary.

No plans for today but we hope an engineer will turn up to sort the failed WiFi. I’m currently connecting to Gransnet via 4G on my phone. We’ve had several power cuts in the night: the joys of living in rural France!

Enjoy whatever the day brings and get well wishes where needed. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. I must get up. Places to go and people to see! Opticians for eye test, parcel to collect, Waitrose, admin for WI, dress to send back, present to send to brother in Australia, stuff to Charity shop… and breathe. Have a good day.

Abitbarmy Tue 24-Jan-23 07:53:58

Welcome Leanneta, we’ll look forward to hearing about your travels! Have a good day.

karmalady Tue 24-Jan-23 07:59:13

Good morning, s somerset will be crisp cold and sunny today, nice walking weather

A stove to clean, floor vacuuming and dusting beckon later. Maybe some knitting too

I am going to pump my tyres up and check my bike today, a very short ride to a meeting on friday and saturday, at 8 degrees, might well be the day I re-start cycling, hoping that all icy patches have melted. Icy patches make me nervous even when walking

No ads for me. Clear all cookies. log onto GN and a cookie thingie will pop up. Untick them one by one. Tedious but worth it

Here’s Matt.

Good morning everyone from Málaga on this, our penultimate day out here. We had a storm during the night - White sheets of lightning over the sea then ages before the thunder. Somewhere was copping it worse than us at 4am! Was it you dustyangel?
🤣

I have an earlier hair appointment in the salon downstairs before LWW as I’ve booked myself in for highlights and lowlights. I’d best take my Kindle as I’ll be in there for almost three hours.

No sun today and it’s been raining. We’ve not done too badly though for our winter holiday. And I love LWW so I’m not bothered what the weather does on a Tuesday!

Susan56 Tue 24-Jan-23 08:03:52

Good morning from West Wales.

Welcome Leanneta👋🏻

We had a lovely day yesterday. We went for a long walk at Mumbles followed by coffee and then lunch out.We did MIL’s shopping then spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening with her until she nodded off.

Today we will have a walk by the beach then lunch with MIL then set off home early afternoon. We normally would stay later but there was a lot of snow and ice on the journey down so will try and get home before it’s dark.

Whitewave my parents learnt to play Bridge when they retired. It was my mums lifeline when my dad died. She played in serious leagues where she won trophies and also at Bridge clubs where it was still taken reasonably seriously but a more relaxed atmosphere.

Hope the viewing goes well grandMattie.

We are going down for our hotel breakfast now.I feel we have eaten a weeks worth of food in three days😩

Have the best day you can everyone🦩

NannyJan53 Tue 24-Jan-23 08:15:02

Good morning from a very icy Black Country.

The weather turned quite sunny on our walk yesterday, we only did 5 miles, it's usually 6.

No real plans today, except gym this morning.

Welcome Leanetta safe driving, a very physically demanding job.

Stay safe and warm everyone

Stilllearning Tue 24-Jan-23 08:17:51

Morning from East Ren. No sounds from the children yet so I’m savouring the last moments of peace.

Sorry you had a hard day baubles, hope today is much better.
Good that daft dug settled though!

Welcome Leanetta, sounds like your posts will bring some different experiences to our world!

Sorry life continues to be so tough Marydoll.

Quite a long day ahead for me so I’ll go now and check the food supplies for DGC. Being in their house rather than mine is easier in some ways but requires a bit more planning in others.

If you’re reading Mick, enjoy your exploring day and good wishes to everyone else🦩

brook2704 Tue 24-Jan-23 08:18:00

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s a very mild, cloudy start to the day at 9º already.
I’m off out early to meet DD2 for a coffee after she’s dropped the DGC off at school, I’ll need to get a move on as I’ve only just woken up!
I’ve not had chance yet to read all the posts but hoping everyone is ok
Take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Grandmadinosaur Tue 24-Jan-23 08:18:35

Good morning all from North Wales.

Thanks for opening Ash and you have done so well in your recovery. It’s heartening to hear especially as it gives encouragement for anyone in that position in the future.

Yesterday we had a stroll along the prom here and as DH had to return to the apartment for a call I browsed in M&S. I used to think I wish we still had ours but when I was in there I wasn’t too impressed. I had a cuppa and a toasted tea cake for lunch and the cafe is now all touch screen which I managed to do successfully! In the evening we went for a meal at our favourite pub here. I had cod on a bed of caponata with prawn arancini. It was delicious.

Today we are going a drive down to Anglesey. We would have liked to go to Portmerrion but it is closed until 31st.

Enjoy your Lww Urms

💐 for Marydoll

Welcome Leanetta

Have a good day everyone.

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s very grey today.
I’m off to have coffee with a friend at RHS Harlow Carr. I’ll have a wander round the gardens too. The snowdrops should be out. Later I am taking a neighbour to a medical appointment.
Yesterday was quiet, just a walk to get some fresh air then a cup of tea next door.
Sorry you feel rubbish Mary, glad you are getting on so well Ash , hello to Leanetta.
Wishing everyone a good day.

grandMattie Tue 24-Jan-23 08:34:07

Welcome Leanneta. No protocols, just kindness and support...

Liberty Tue 24-Jan-23 08:42:21

Good morning all from a damp grey but frost free Suffolk. As the days get shorter I seem to sleep for longer so I’ll read your posts with my second cuppa. Perhaps I haven’t noticed before but suddenly I’ve got irritating adverts with these posts on my iPad. Must try to get rid of them later.

Another quiet day today with only a trip out to a local town to collect DH’s watch which will no doubt involve coffee. But before that porridge and a dog walk.

Hope this is a good day for all.

GrannySomerset Tue 24-Jan-23 08:52:49

The garden and the field beyond are white with frost but it looks very pretty in the sunshine. Not sure about driving though but the supermarket calls; I am hoping my neighbour will offer to drive as his car is much more substantial than mine. Then out to lunch in the village with some friends, so a good day in prospect.

By mistake I unearthed a large cache of colour slides which haven’t seen the light of day for decades so I spent yesterday afternoon going through them - pictures from our honeymoon over 60 years ago, of children’s christenings, of day trips and holidays I had quite forgotten - it was a a real nostalgia fest. About half have been binned but I would like to get prints of the rest, but may have to save up after recent expensive events.

Anniebach Tue 24-Jan-23 08:53:25

Good morning Auntyflo and all x

Jaxjacky Tue 24-Jan-23 08:55:24

Morning all from a not frosty S Hampshire, makes a change! Welcome to you Leanetta what an interesting job, safe journeys.
Thanks for sharing Ash reassuring.
Is it cheaper getting your hair done there Urms?
Not a lot on today, we had quiz night yesterday in our local, a good turn out, man down in our team, but a really fun evening. I’ve booked a family lunch out in February, it’s nice for us all to get together over these winter months.
Hope Mick’s have a lovely break.
Enjoy your day 🦩🦩

ShazzaKanazza Tue 24-Jan-23 09:04:32

Good Morning Ash and everyone from a rather gloomy Hull but at least it’s not icy. I can’t seem to drag myself out of bed till 8 when it’s dark and gloomy.

Leanetta welcome and safe journeys. 👋I’ll look forward to reading your posts.

Pittcity happy birthday to your GS.

Marydoll 💐

I’ve just enjoyed my breakfast of avocado, bacon and poached egg on toast yum. I can’t cook a poached egg but DH does them lovely so breakfast is generally his job unless it’s porridge then I do it.

Well due to being generally accident prone and a bit more ditzy since turning 60 (husbands words) I burnt myself again yesterday this time on my boiling tap when water went down my sleeve and has taken skin off. Second burn in a month🤦
Today I am meeting my friend at a local restaurant for lunch. She turned 50 as I turned 60 and as we were both on hols we are meeting today.
We are babysitting our GDs tonight as it’s DDs ante natal class. She is teaching full classes which is great and she gets great feedback.

Enjoy your day if you can. Thoughts to those who are struggling with stress and illness. 🌻🌻

dragonfly46 Tue 24-Jan-23 09:05:09

Welcome Leanetta what a fascinating job you have - we look forward to hearing more!

Greyduster Tue 24-Jan-23 09:06:12

Good morning GNs and Mick in absentia from a sunny but frosty South Yorkshire. Thankyou for opening, Ash. I was falling asleep at nine o’clock last night so I went to bed early, then spent the rest of the night tossing and turning. No plans today - I started to sort the pile of family photos yesterday and somewhere underneath them all is a dining table! I’ll try and finish them today and sort out some for scanning.
Welcome Leanetta. You have my respect driving lorries - it’s all I can do to drive Mini!
Safe travels, Corner and anyone else on the road today.
Have a good day, folks.

Grammaretto Tue 24-Jan-23 09:07:21

Thanks for opening up Ash
Is kitty a he or a she or an it?

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders.
Quite mild here but damp and cloudy.
I'm teaching this morning (a small class of adults pottery) so I must prepare.
I was hoping to get some new front teeth yesterday but alas that isn't until March now. So think of me a toothless crone grin

Welcome Leanetta . I hope you enjoy the friendly chat.

You haven't let the grass grow gMattie !! You'll have it sold by lunchtime, ironing board and all
I don't understand the EA reasoning

Enjoy your last days in Spain Urms
I am sorry Marydoll that there's no remedy for the RA. ((Hugs))

Have the best day you can everyone

EkwaNimitee Tue 24-Jan-23 09:09:33

Good morning everyone from greyish Carlisle where I hope for a glimpse of sun later. Yesterday afternoon turned dark and drizzly, quite depressing especially as I developed a mild migraine.
I watched the next two episodes of Silent Witness in the evening though there are bits where I just have to close my eyes..the makeup artists are too good these days....
This morning, clean the bathrooms, mop the floors, that's it for the day then I must get to grips with some admin. And research some decorators. I don't know whether to have the whole interior done or just certain areas. It's a new build and the microporous paint on the walls, which allows the walls to dry out, doesn't clean very well. We'll see...

I wish you a better day Marydoll, this constant pain must be horribly challenging to even your spirit.

Welcome, Leanetta, you sound interesting! Driving trucks was one thing I thought I would like doing once but, having seen the talented manoeuvrings of some drivers, I just know I would have been no good at it! I regularly see learner drivers practising round my area of the city and it's interesting to be behind them especially if they're very new at it. Don't envy them.

Have the best possible day all.

harrigran Tue 24-Jan-23 09:14:26

Good morning from a dry NE where it is 5 degrees with a forecast of 8 later, positively tropical for the far north of England.
Quiet day yesterday catching up with computer stuff.
Had a message from GD telling me about her first driving lesson, will be handy when she can get herself to college and drop her sister off at school on the way.
My sister visited but she rang to say she would be late as she couldn't get a taxi, took two buses and arrived with two squashed cream cakes.
I am going to look through some cookery books today and try and get some inspiration for future meals, I am bored with all the usual stuff.
Sorry to hear you had a bad night Marydoll

luluaugust Tue 24-Jan-23 09:25:42

Good morning from a dull W Kent. Off to visit friend who is worrying about her eldest GD not reading very well. I did jury service years ago BlueBalou and we ended up with quite a party atmosphere while we waited to be called, I got chatting to a lady who made necklaces, bought one and so have a memento of the occasion!
Sorry to hear of all the bad nights, if only we could hibernate through January and not the opposite.
Best wishes to all

hollysteers Tue 24-Jan-23 09:38:47

Good morning Mick and all from Cloudy Chambers northwest coast where it is 4 degrees.
DS came over yesterday to do a few little jobs in my DD flat which she is selling, working in the south.
Prepping for music club, I’m in charge and will have a warble before I go.
I’m glad your convalescence has worked out well Ash, all the best with flat selling grandMattie and I hope Mick’s break is enjoyable.

Blossoming Tue 24-Jan-23 09:39:53

Good morning everyone from misty damp Lancashire. The mist looks quite spooky hanging from the leafless trees. I’m planning on a walk later. Have a good day all 🦩
