As Mick is away, I thought I’d open up as he usually takes a break from doing so when not at home.

Good morning from a cloudy part of La Sarthe.

Yesterday the NE wind made it bitterly cold so I was glad to be indoors. It marked 12 weeks since I had open heart surgery to repair my mitral valve. This means I can stop taking the extra medication prescribed for this period, mainly blood thinners. It also means I’m now safe to lift heavy items like the iron!!

For anyone facing this treatment, I can honestly say I experienced little pain at any stage although the cardiac rehab team advised continued regular use of paracetamol, which I didn’t need to take after the early weeks. Similarly, procedures related to my after care (removal of stitches, etc) were not a problem, despite warnings to the contrary.

No plans for today but we hope an engineer will turn up to sort the failed WiFi. I’m currently connecting to Gransnet via 4G on my phone. We’ve had several power cuts in the night: the joys of living in rural France!

Enjoy whatever the day brings and get well wishes where needed. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Thank you, Ash, for opening up.
Good morning from a dark, chilly E Kent. The temperature is 4C and forecast to be that until this evening.
Yesterday was grey and dreary, I had the lights on for most of. I always find February the most depressing month.
The estate agent came round for the photos. It was hilarious how the staging went. I had tidied up quite a lot, but still had to shift stuff. The most amusing was my “study”, where I see andbus the computer. I had to put up the ironing board (remember those Ash 😂) and drape it with bits of the quilt I’m assembling, even putting a piece under the sewing machine foot! I asked to be able to vet the photos before the ad goes live online.
I just might have a viewing this morning when I’m out. Would be nice if they wanted the house without any further viewings, wouldn’t it?
I posted DGD1’s hat and hope she gets it before the end of the week.
Today, I’m taking the tai chi class as our leader is unable to come. As I don’t have the music facilities, we do it in silence; makes for an interesting session.
I hope today is kind to everyone. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

See andbus = sew and use … 🤬

Grandmabatty Tue 24-Jan-23 06:36:31

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 8° and wet. It's certainly gloomy Grandmattie. Still dark here. What is this thing called an 'ironing board'? Ash you've come through your procedure with fortitude. It can't have been easy.
Yesterday was a fairly chilled childcare day. Dgs2 was being very cuddly and dgs1 was on a thousand questions before he left for nursery. He's a funny wee boy. "Grandma, can I tell you something?" Is his favourite line. Followed by "I've got something special for you at my house." Which was a pine cone he had picked up on his walk at nursery.
Today will be more of the same. I'm always tired on a Tuesday. Dgs2 is not a big fan of walks in his buggy so I'll think of something else to do. Have a good day all.

Morning All from a very cold corner of Somerset. I’ll be pleased when fewer layers are needed

Thanks for opening Ash. Some difficult to absorb family news last night led to less sleep than I’d like. Otherwise a decent day yesterday.

We’re off into the Cotswolds today to meet my cousin, a biannual catching up treck, the location neatly between our homes. A couple of hours drive each way makes for a tiring but worth it day.

Wishing you all the best day it can be.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 24-Jan-23 06:58:43

Morning all

Those twelve weeks seem to have flown by Ash , I hope you find a buyer for your house soon grandMattie

Another one who has had a poor nights sleep, the last two actually. I dreamt I had a headache and when I woke up, yep I had a headache.

I want to do some paperwork sorting out today, desperately overdue, not a job I enjoy.

Have a good day and keep warm folks 🦩🙋‍♀️

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 24-Jan-23 07:02:06

Good morning ash from Oxfordshire where it’s -8 hopefully another sunny day will follow, no dog today so it’s bed changing and ironing, I might also do some drawing, my February challenge remains partly un drawn, if that’s a word.

I Hate these annoying pop up ads that we are unable to remove, from every thread, so will bid you all a good day, stay warm and stay safe.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Jan-23 07:03:34

Good morning everyone from the South Downs. Actually above freezing at the moment at 2c.

Had a pleasant day yesterday with friends. News from work -interesting to say the least.

Only housework planned today, and if not too cold I’ll replenish the compost in my pots and might wander to the garden centre to get some grit a la Carol Kline.

Fish with lemon and ginger tonight and I might make a pineapple sponge pudding with a pineapple that is ripe and ready to use.

Everyone else have a pleasant and fruitful January day. Only about 5 weeks to the start of spring - that will whizz past.

dragonfly46 Tue 24-Jan-23 07:12:15

Good morning from dark Leicestershire.

So pleased you have made a good recovery Ashcombe and thank you for opening.

Hoping for another sunny day today as it certainly lifts the spirit and it is still January here!

Cleaners coming first thing then going for a walk with the neighbours. After that meeting friends for coffee then I must ring the Dutch tax man.

Hoping everyone has a good day.

Gingster Tue 24-Jan-23 07:15:06

Good morning all and I don’t think there’s a frost. First time for ages.

Yesterday was a nothing day. I hate those - such a waste! I did read and finish my book . Quite good!

Today I have Bridge club , Yay! I’m going to my friends before and will have a coffee /catchup and then take her to bridge.

Yes Oops why can’t we get rid of these annoying ads!

Love and best wishes to all . ❤️

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Jan-23 07:19:10

I’ve always fancied learning bridge

Abitbarmy Tue 24-Jan-23 07:22:33

Good morning from North Yorkshire where it’s 1degree. Yesterday one of the enormous tractors that shoot up and down our village street took out the telegraph pole outside our house, the pole dropping on to the road behind him. He had a big fancy plough on the back that swung from side to side a little. Luckily no one was hurt but it could have been horrific. It took out 8 telephone lines to ours and neighbouring properties and therefore the internet! What a disaster! So I’m having to use mobile data and pair phone to iPad to use that. Phone is too small for me to use internet comfortably. Phone keeps trying to reconnect to internet then mobile data won’t work. Netflix, iPlayer etc. won’t work on tv, neither will Alexa. So annoying. The very nice BT man who was outside most of the day said it could be ages before it’s reconnected. Not happy. Anyway not important I suppose in the big scheme of things, have the best day you can folks.

BlueBalou Tue 24-Jan-23 07:23:03

Good morning everyone, yet another frosty start here on the hill in Wiltshire.
I met an old friend yesterday, it was lovely catching up with her. I’ve known her for 45 years now.
Today DDog has her walker, I’m off to crafts and DH has already left to travel 45 miles by bus and train for jury service. He sounded somewhat bemused about his first day there yesterday. Apparently ‘it’s nothing like what you see on the television’? Talking to friends who have done it, it’s pretty boring so he’s in for a fun two or three weeks!

I hope today goes well for you all x

Sar53 Tue 24-Jan-23 07:26:20

Good morning from Essex by the sea where it is cold but not frosty.
A walk this morning to a newly opened cafe where I want to see if there are any craft groups taking place in their small for hire rooms.
I heard some very upsetting news from DD1 yesterday about a member of my ex husband's family who lives abroad. I cannot stop thinking about her and her family.
Thanks for opening this morning Ash, let's hope Mick is enjoying his break.
Have a pleasant Tuesday everyone xx

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Jan-23 07:29:03

Not that it matters really, but I was just pouring out my tea and realised that it should be Carol Kirkwood not Kline!

Gingster Tue 24-Jan-23 07:29:59

Go for it whitewave. Bridge is a lovely game. It takes a while to learn the basics and then you learn different rules as you go along. Find a nice friendly group. Some clubs take it far too seriously! 😤

Leanetta Tue 24-Jan-23 07:31:11

Good morning Ash and everyone. My first posting, so not sure on the etiquette.

I’ve woken up in my lorry in a very chilly Hereford it’s -2 and foggy and slippy. I’m running loads between Hereford and Ledbury today so lots of swapping trailers. My hands are frozen already.

Hope everyone has a good and safe day.

baubles Tue 24-Jan-23 07:35:21

Good morning all from cloudy South Lanarkshire.

You’ve been a model patient Ash, following all the advice you’ve been given, I’m so glad you have recovered well.

Fingers crossed that your house isn’t long on the market Mattie.

I struggled a bit yesterday at work, the worst day I’ve had since being back. My body just wasn’t cooperating, I got through the day but was glad to get home.

On the other hand daft dog settled into her new bed without a murmur last night. At some point though she came upstairs as she emerged from under our bed when DH got up. I can live with that if she’s happy.

I’ve an appointment with the podiatrist this morning ten a quick run around the supermarket and that’s it for the day.

Have the best possible day everyone, hugs to those who are coping with illness, sadness or worries.

Marydoll Tue 24-Jan-23 07:36:27

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where its 8°C.

Thank you for opening up Ash, glad to hear that you got such great support and your journey to recovery was an almost trouble free one.
That would be great GM, if you got a quick sale.

I've had a dreadful night, so don't feel up to posting. Mr MD brought me a heat bag at 5am 🥰, the pain in my shoulder was excrutiating. The absence of my RA biologics is taking its toll.

Wishing you all a pleasant day.

Marydoll Tue 24-Jan-23 07:38:26

Welcome Leanneta, safe travels.

Pittcity Tue 24-Jan-23 07:38:55

Good morning from a grey, dark Colchester. Above freezing and reaching 5° today but no sunshine.
Tuesday is charity shop volunteering day.
It's DGS1's birthday so I'll detour on the walk home to drop off a card.
Love to all 🦩 x

Gala Tue 24-Jan-23 07:40:33

Good morning from Sefton. I have just peeped out & can't see any 'weather' - no wind or rain, no sign of frost & dry underfoot. A dull gloomy day is forecast.
Strength exercise class on Zoom first thing then meeting friends for lunch. They live in N Wales so we will meet halfway in our usual country pub/restaurant. Looking forward to a good catch-up.
Have a good day all. Take care out there & keep warm, another arctic blast on the way apparently.

Georgesgran Tue 24-Jan-23 07:47:16

Good morning from Durham. Apparently it’s above freezing, but still dark, although there’s a low streak of red in the sky to the east.
I had a weird dream and woke thinking I had to visit my DF urgently today, as I hadn’t seen him for a couple of weeks. Then I remembered he died in 2007 - strange?
Our ‘dizzy’ friend didn’t turn up again yesterday - forgot - our patience is running out. She has 2 single AS in their 40’s, neither work and she runs around after them all week. They rule her life, bleed her dry of time, money and emotion, but she’s a glutton for punishment, even though she says that while she loves them, she doesn’t like either of them.

I’ve now got the decorator booked in for March and I think I’ll get an approximate valuation for this house - no idea what it’s worth, as all the houses here are individual and rarely change hands.
Hope our poorly GNs are feeling a bit better today.
Best wishes to all. X

kittylester Tue 24-Jan-23 07:47:22

Good morning all from North Leicestershire where it is -3°.

I have lots of admin to do today, appointments to make, emails to send etc.

The cleaner who was supposed to come to look at us and our house yesterday cancelled at the last minute so I suppose I should also wield a vacuum or duster.

BlueSapphire Tue 24-Jan-23 07:47:29

Good morning everyone from yet another very frosty day in Northampton,. -3° at the moment outside.

Not much to report about yesterday, just had a restful day after a busy weekend with my DB-in-law and my family. Didn't even have to cook last night as I had kept back a portion of the beef casserole I had made on Saturday. There were still three portions to go in the freezer. Need to get some mince out of the freezer so I can make a chilli tomorrow.

A morning of pottering, then out to a health walk this afternoon.
Hope Mick is enjoying his short break.
Stay warm everyone, and have a good Tuesday.
