Welcome dear Kitcheners. Make yourselves comfortable. There is a tasty, virtually calorie-free buffet ready and waiting.

Grandmabatty Mon 27-Feb-23 13:03:22

That's lovely Soop. Dgs2 had a two hour nap and has had three courses for lunch, lentil soup, mashed potatoes with gravy and a mini fromage frais. Now he's intent on producing a poo and switching my table lamps on and off. He's very proud of his achievements thus far. Have a good afternoon kitcheners.

The view from the high road in our village. Another sparkling day.

I have finished the collie dog portrait. Owners are delighted. A good start to the day.

Love to you ALL

Hello everyone! Just got to bed after falling asleep in my chair. I long for a machine to transport me to bed from downstairs and put me to bed in my nightie, with teeth cleaned!
We spent the weekend in London with good friends and by chance saw all their children and DGC. Wee were there for The Mousetrap. I bought DH tickets for Christmas but I can’t tell you who did it!
Sleep tight everyone 😴

Very late on here tonight.
That’s very sad Grandmarie.
Nice cake Jax.
Just got in from DS1 he cooked us roast chicken Jamie Oliver style with curried veg,it was yummy.
Sleep well everyone.

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Feb-23 21:23:40

Thank you Granmmarie, how very distressing 💐

Grannmarie Sun 26-Feb-23 21:06:13

Sorry, SueD and Jaxjacky, P.P. is our new, young Parish Priest, he came to our Parish just a year ago. He is 31, ordained 4 years. His lovely Mum died very suddenly yesterday, aged 56. So sad.

Grandmabatty Sun 26-Feb-23 21:02:56

Parish Priest Jax.

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Feb-23 20:52:10

Can I plead ignorance Grannmarie what’s a P.P.? I am sorry to hear of her death, a shock to all I’m sure.
A double birthday bash dusty, that’ll be an event to remember!
I’m pleased yesterday went well corner the day sounds very enjoyable for all, well done you and your helpers.
What amazing memories being shared with you Urms a precious gift.
No luck in the meat draw 😕, never mind. My daughter called in with Imogen, who’d baked me a coffee cake. I’m not a big cake eater, but I know she loves baking, MrJ will help no doubt, it’s an early birthday gift for Wednesday. Imogen’s off skiing in 32 days (she old us!), to Austria with school too brook.
Enjoy this evening all.

Good evening! Some lovely weekends and birthdays here - such fun!

Granmarie I’m glad your gs2 is improving. This strep A is still doing the rounds, isn’t it? sad. I don’t know what PP is but I’m sorry to hear of such a sad situation. flowers

Urms my boys had a head teacher who was Wee Free from the Western Isles. Each year he tried to stop the school having a Christmas tree and nativity play. He didn’t hold with any frivolity. Oddly enough, his wife was very jolly and at the PTA cheese and wine evenings would drink like a fish until her cheeks were bright red! grin

Cornergran my poor ds was home alone with eight 10yo girls last night! A sleepover for his own DD’s 10th birthday next week. We were relieved to hear from him this morning that he’d survived unscathed! 🤣

Another (relatively) early start for us today with GS, at 7:15am. Couldn’t complain though as we hadn’t heard a squeak from him since 7:15 last night. That boy loves his bed - he went down for a three hour nap at 9:30am and then another nap this afternoon!

We inadvertently introduced him to fruit juice yesterday. 😳 I was carrying him on my hip as we were preparing the evening meal. I realised he was licking something from his hand while I was attending to the food. I looked over my shoulder and the wee pickle was busy dipping his hand right into his Grandad’s fruit juice glass and joyously sucking away at his ill-gotten gains! I told dd and she just rolled her eyes and said ‘Mum, he’s got you wrapped round his little finger.’ grin

Dd decided it would be nice for them all to have their lunch at ours after their weekend away so we did that, before they went off home at about 2:30. We cleared up (again!) and then walked to a nearby garden centre for a cup of hot chocolate and a browse around. It was a lovely afternoon weatherwise, although chilly out of the sun. We met a very friendly and gorgeous cat, which was fun.

We’ve had a meal made from mostly frozen food this evening! I’d frozen some of our Xmas turkey in gravy so defrosted that which we had with frozen roast potatoes and broad beans and fresh carrots and spring greens. It was followed by apple crumble, using the last of the autumn’s apple harvest that we were given. I’m feeling sleepy now!

Wishing you a peaceful night. TOYA. xxxx

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people!🥰
I'm having a quick catch up of kitchen news before CTM, last episode this evening. It's Trixie's wedding! You can tell I'm still a fan....🤣

DH and I enjoyed a video call from wee DGS2, starting to recover from his StrepA, and his Mummy and Daddy. It was good to see them all, virtually.
We are invited to DGD'S show, Matilda, she is dancing this time. Something to look forward to. Last time, she was Cousin It in The Addams Family! I'll have her here on Tuesday, next school strike day.

DS3's car is going into our local garage tomorrow, I'll pick him up and bring him here. He has offered to go up in my loft and start emptying it for me. I want it to contain nothing but Christmas decorations and suitcases...it'll be a work in progress cos I know there's still an ottoman up there with my wedding dress, and my fur coat!

Thank you, Brook for your kind condolences for our P.P. and family. We had a visiting priest at Mass this morning. We heard that P.P.'s Mum was only 56, so young. So very sudden and sad. 💕🙏
It's good that your son's school trip experience didn't put him off skiing for life!🎿

Enjoy what's left of Sunday, TOYA, NNGB.

Good evening kitchen friends - where has the weekend gone?? We were rushing around yesterday doing various bits for DD1 (who is having a lovely family weekend at Centreparcs), before going to the football. A win and another three points for the Mighty Blades ⚔️⚽️⚔️. Today has been taken up with mother duties and to be fair, she was more amendable than usual 👍. We've a really clear sky showing the waxing moon above Venus and Jupiter - amazing 🌙🪐⭐️. Enjoy the restof your Sunday. TOYA 🌷🌷

cornergran Sun 26-Feb-23 18:43:07

Hello everyone. Similar day here brook, very cold but beautifully sunny. Frost forecast tonight so we’ve covered the camellia which is insisting on blooming.

Mr C says a heartfelt thanks for birthday greetings. He truly enjoyed yesterday. We were one down which was a shame as it had been the poorly ones birthday on Friday. He slept most of the weekend and has suggested a meal with him and our granddaughters on Friday. Sounds good to us.

Our not so Littlest arrived with his parents to tackle decorating the conservatory. Think the level of decor attached to the average 8 year olds party. Tasteful? Probably not. Fun? Certainly.

Tasked with keeping Mr C away the enterprising young lad took him off to our bedroom, put on the tv and them both under the duvet grin. Our teenagers and their Mum arrived and an afternoon of chat and laughter followed.

Our teenagers are thoughtful and patient young women. They willingly played patiently with their 7 year old autistic cousin creating a very complex farm. The food was declared good and vanished. We distributed cake amongst the neighbours today and now have a comfortable amount left. I’ve popped a tin with fruit cake on the side.

Tomorrow we’re back at the Heart Institute for a climic appointment when we hope to better understand plans for Mr C. At the moment it’s all as clear as mud. Less stress though as we can travel by bus.

No cooking here today. Lazy day. A Charlie Bingham meal at lunch time, we’ll have some bits from yesterday and a sandwich later. To be truthful we’re both just a bit weary. That chocolate fondant sounds good ladylfl. I’m beginning to wish I’d been more energetic.

Super to have two special birthdays to look forward dusty. Are the celebrations all planned? An open house sounds tiring but oh so worth it. Mr C also says he can’t believe he was 80.

Your stepfather sounds an interesting man urms , such good company.

Enough rambling. enjoy your evening everyone. There will be a glass raised here a little later.

Grandmabatty Sun 26-Feb-23 18:25:46

Evening Kitcheners. I've had a full cooked breakfast for brunch so didn't need lunch at all. Me and my chum put the world to rights definitely for two and a half hours. I've made a lovely pot of lentil soup using a ham hough for flavour and bits of ham in the soup, eves pudding and Swedish meatballs in a creamy sauce. That should do me for days, and some in the freezer. Like you, Ladyleftfieldlover, I'll be watching the pottery later. Early night for me later as childcare day tomorrow. Have a good evening Kitcheners.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 26-Feb-23 17:36:30

Hello everyone. I’ve had a fairly quiet day. I took some painkillers for my arthritic thumb and it’s not too bad. We had a sandwich lunch as I’m cooking salmon later. Chocolate fondant with lashings of cream for pudding. I made a batch of chocolate muffins today but couldn’t ice them as I’ve run out of plain chocolate. I’ve got some white chocolate but it makes a strange sort of frosting. We will be watching the pottery off this evening. I love the programme but I find the comedienne who hosts a tad annoying.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 26-Feb-23 17:15:38

Hi kitcheners 🙋‍♀️

I’m just off to the kitchen to start cooking roast beef for dinner, DH is watching Chariots of Fire in the lounge.

I have been extremely lazy only feeding the washing machine several times.

Have a good evening 😘

Urmstongran Sun 26-Feb-23 17:12:05

‘Evening All’.

My stepfather was taken home an hour ago and Himself is settled in front of the tv in the other room watching Man. Utd -vx Newcastle. May the best team win. Oh, Man. Utd have just scored!

We chatted this afternoon about Kate Forbes who has put her hat in the ring to lead the SNP and become First Minister. My stepfather said he was brought up ‘Wee Free’ too in his village of Plockton, Wester Ross. ‘Wee Frees” do not sing, per se in their church services. Instead, they launch into a monophonic chanting of the psalms, quite slow and melodic. One of the men of the church will begin, setting a baritone note, that the rest of the congregation would follow, and slowly, the group moved through the words one note at a time.

He told us there was (is) an even stricter Church - Secessation - which is down near the bowling green in the village - although he said of course the Church was there first. Apparently those strict adherents wouldn’t even buy a newspaper of a Monday morning as it had been printed on a Sunday.

His reminiscing is so interesting. He speaks Gaelic fluently and has many great memories to share of the olden times growing up in his village. It only has a very small population and, if he still lived there, he said he would now be the oldest inhabitant. I love listening to his tales.

Goodness such cheering along our hallway I think a second goal must have been scored!

dustyangel Sun 26-Feb-23 17:02:14

Hello everyone and belated birthday greetings to Cornergran’s dear husband. I hope he had a wonderful day. 🥳🎂🥂
DH and I both have 80th birthdays coming up in March and some entertaining to do around them. Like a couple of you I find it much more tiring than I used to.
DH had completely forgotten the plan for our open house day and by the time I’d explained it all again I was quite confused myself! I think another conversation with our daughters is called for. Actually just looking back at what I’ve written, I find it very hard to get my head around the fact that it is our 80ths coming up.

Urms I love the way you sometimes let your Lil Miss wrap you round her little finger. smile Just what Grandmas are for in my opinion.

brook2704 Sun 26-Feb-23 16:53:36

Enjoy the sunshine in bonnie Kintyre soop I bet you’ve got some spectacular views
Well done with your walk Blossoming, lovely to see a daffodil in flower, they’re a long way off up here but there were some beautiful yellow crocus enjoying the sunshine in the garden today
Hope you’re enjoying the football Jax and good luck in the meat draw 🤞
I bet your guests were very well looked after grannysomerset, and your DD will be too Enjoy the family time!

GrannySomerset Sun 26-Feb-23 14:37:45

Have waved farewell to DS, DDiL DGS and immaculately behaved dog, bedding in machine so it can be dried and replaced before DD arrives tomorrow. Starting to feel like Fawlty Towers here. Lovely to have visitors but realise I am out of practice so plainly need to entertain more.

Blossoming Sun 26-Feb-23 13:51:15

Good afternoon dear Kitcheners. It’s cloudy with a very cold wind blowing off the river it looks like rain on the way. I’m quite tired after yesterday, but I pulled my big girl pants on and went for a walk this morning. I managed to dodge any rain and found a lovely wee daffodil by the footpath near the boatyard. It’s definitely a sign of spring. MrB plied me with a bacon roll and a mug of tea after I got in, I’m now warm and sleepy and listening to the radio. Have a lovely afternoon, whatever you are doing.

soop Sun 26-Feb-23 13:10:49

Another glorious day in bonnie Kintyre.

Thank you for the hugs. I'm all aglow.

A very long chat with son number one has plastered a smile on my face. Scotland v France rugby match to look forward to. Painting of Pip, the collie dog, to keep me out of mischief in the meantime.

Wishing you lovely lot the kind of Sunday that you would wish for yourselves.

smile sunshine flowers

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Feb-23 12:59:21

The wind here is really bitter brook I thought about a couple of jobs in the garden, sadly Raynauds makes my hands too cold to be useful, so I scuttled back in.
Son and his girlfriend are off to a christening, she has, in my head, a summer dress on! That’s youth for you, I’d have thermals and my coat.
Football soon, chuck gammon in the slow cooker first, then a trip down the local for the meat draw.
Hope your day is going well all.

brook2704 Sun 26-Feb-23 12:48:09

Good afternoon kitchen pals, it’s an absolute cracker of a day here, clear blue sky but 🥶🥶 very cold! I wrapped up warm and moved my garden chair to the sunniest spot in the garden to enjoy my morning cuppa. Back inside now though for some warm carrot soup for lunch.
Sorry to hear the sad news from your PP grannmarie, sending condolences to the family
Such cuties SueD and Urms, enjoy every minute with the little ones as they grow up so quickly!
No Sunday catch up call with DS today as he’s on a skiing holiday in Austria with his partner. He loves skiing now but his first experience as a child was on a school trip and he twisted or broke his ankle badly on the first day. It had cost me a fortune but there was nothing we could do. He was miserable the whole time and came home in plaster!

Grannmarie Sat 25-Feb-23 22:31:30

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people!🥰

I'm sending great big hugs to Soop and anyone else who needs/ wishes one. Hugs are so powerful and restorative 💕💕

Grandmabatty, I'm sorry to hear about your lovely neighbour, very sad. You’ll miss him. Well done to you, and Brook, on your gardening. I brought my primulae into the kitchen in case these frosty nights kill them!
We received sad news this evening that our young P.P. 's Mum has died very suddenly. What a shock for him and his family. 🙏🕯
The Nurse Specialist didn't say anything about what could be causing my bouts of chest pain, except that my 'performance ' on the treadmill has ruled out angina. I'll need to wait for a Cardiology appointment now, 🤞.

Blossoming, that sounds like a special family get together, making memories.
I hope the Corners have had a wonderful celebration too.

Thank you, Jaxjacky, that's how I'm looking at it, as the first step on the journey of finding out what's wrong.
I bet MrJ enjoyed that shower! The things we take for granted until they are not possible....

What a happy afternoon with your L'il Miss, Urms. I love her wee pram!

Aww, SueD, I can just imagine your wee DGS finding his Mummy's mug, how touching. Wee lamb. 💙
Our wee DGS2 is very clingy to his Mummy just now, he's got StrepA and Mummy and Daddy are having to hide his antibiotics in yoghurt to get him to take it.

We had steak, onions and jacket potatoes this evening, now enjoying a small SV before bed.

TOYA, NNGB.
