House No. 13 - would it bother you?

Ours is no. 13, and I hardly ever give it a thought, but a guest remarked on it the other day.

When we bought it, in 1977, neither dh nor I even gave it a thought, and it’s been a happy house for us.

Would it put you off, or do you know anyone who wouldn’t touch it? We’re not thinking of selling (I hope that’ll only happen after we’re gone) but I’ve been wondering whether it’ll eventually reduce the price a bit, or make it harder to sell.

I was born on the 13th (not a Friday) so it wouldn't bother me. At a past new build house the houses were numbered 1-13, then 14-19 because in their experience the builders said that many people were superstitious about it. It was easier for them to leave the number out.

I'm not superstitious usually.
Our house number is 103. Not much has gone right for last 35 years and I often wonder?

Never thought about it tbh but nothing much bothers me so I can't imagine living at no.13 would either.

We lived at number 13 ,but only for 18 months,we moved quickly because we more than doubled the price in that time and swapped our 2 bedroom flat for a 3 bed detached chalet bungalow .So 13 was definately lucky in our case ,we loved our 18 months there but it was too good an opportunity to pass by

AAGA4 - yes, that is the origin of the superstition.

I'm not sure it would bother me in the context of a house number, Such a ridiculous premise I know, but Friday 13th does resonate depending on what I'm planning, I'd never fly on Friday 13th for example, outside of that nonsense superstition, I tend to regard it as just another number

I flew from America on Friday 13th and in row 13 - it did seem a bit unnerving but was a very good flight and I overcame any superstition about 13 after that.

Yes I know it's ridiculous Callistemon bad luck could occur on any date, absolutely no logic to that superstition whatsoever, but as far as flying is concerned I'm completely irrational. I still say Hail Mary on take off, no help whatsoever in an emergency, as one of my friends said when we were travelling together many years ago, "when your number's up that's it!" Friday the 13th or not.

Not at all.

HeavenLeigh Wed 08-Feb-23 16:41:59

Most airlines don't have a Row 13 now, that one did years ago and I think of Lucky 13 now!

I wouldn't be worried by that.

However there isn't a flat no 13 in my mum's block of flats so maybe it was a 70's 'thing'.

I had wondered why DD's house is 15 and next door is 11. Now I know why.

Cabbie21 Thu 09-Feb-23 09:58:07

In my road there is no 13, but there is a 12A.
I doesn’t bother me, but might be harder to sell.

Hey! I used to live at 103 too😃
In fact have lived in a few houses with a 3 in the number but not 13.One house should have been 13 but was numbered 15 instead, so a superstitious builder.
No, it wouldn’t bother me at all.

Maggiemaybe Thu 09-Feb-23 10:10:48

It wouldn’t worry me. Since the Inside No. 9 series began, a few people have commented on our number. Nothing grisly’s happened here yet though. smile

Our last house was no 13. We were very happy there, and both my babies came home to it when they were born. It never bothered me in the slightest.

watermeadow Fri 10-Feb-23 13:49:06

It should only worry someone without education or common sense or born 300 years ago.

Susiewakie Fri 10-Feb-23 14:49:18

Out road has no number 13 ! We are 11 next door is 15 superstitious builder back in the 60s

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 10-Feb-23 14:59:52

It wouldn’t worry me. Younger son’s birthday is the 13th

pascal30 Fri 10-Feb-23 15:02:49

definitely not

Blencathra Fri 10-Feb-23 15:02:51

No.

argymargy Fri 10-Feb-23 15:02:58

Without the Last Supper there would have been no resurrection. I think of Friday 13th as a lucky day.

Ffion63 Sat 11-Feb-23 11:11:20

It wouldn’t bother me at all. I’m not really superstitious that way. We were allocated room 911 when we went to Washington. The only thing I felt was sad thinking about what we think of when 911 is mentioned. I can understand Americans not wanting to stay in it though.
My stepmother would never have 13 sat at the table. She always set an extra place.

We live at number 13 (bungalow) and have had nothing but bad luck. The latest being burst pipes just before Christmas while we were away. Thousands of pounds of damage. We are waiting for lounge and kitchen ceilings to be replaced, the latter found to contain asbestos.
