I've lost my cleaning mojo

How do I get it back?

I was always an energetic person with a spotless house because I couldn't sit still.

After a period of illness where I couldn't do much then returning to work full time after recovery... I just can't seem to get motivated any more.

I'm on holiday this week and all the energy I put into working should be available but I'm still just overwhelmed and unable to get started

I can only describe it like my batteries are flat and I just haven't got the energy.

It's not that bad, daily tasks are getting done but I've lost my excitement for making a room spotless or reorganising a cupboard or doing some DIY and I feel so guilty about it and a bit like I've lost something.

Any advice?

I'd be seriously worried if I ever enjoyed those things - so maybe you've recovered from it?

I too like my home to be spotlessly and tidy and actually enjoy housework. However, I too suffer days when I completely lose my mojo. Have you looked on YouTube? There are loads and loads of videos on there, made by people who like to clean. I find them very motivational. Just type "clean with me" into YouTube and see where it takes you.

I've been trying for years, they just don't behave.

Maybe there is a better solution, I'll ask, I'm tired of thin hair and brittle nails

Last year my nails were better than they've ever been.
This February they're breaking, peeling and splitting again.

I wondered if Vitamin D was the answer? I do take some, not every day, but perhaps the natural version from sunshine is better.

If anyone finds my cleaning mojo, please keep it.

I do take vitamin D and it definitely makes a difference

This centrum silver has 100% for iron and B12 but only 23% for calcium so will ask the doctor about it

If the GP thinks you are anaemic, they should prescribe it in easily absorbed form.

When mine was just below par I told the GP I'd bought Floradix tablets and she nodded sagely and said they were fine but didn't prescribe anything else.

I had those tests to check my thyroid function a month ago, I only found out the results because I thought I'd ring and check after this conversation, I'd assumed they were fine.if no call

I asked for a call back and didn't get one so I think I'm going to make an appointment and ask

I’ve found mine! I employed a cleaner yesterday!

FannyCornforth Sat 18-Feb-23 13:07:16

Callistemon if you are Vitamin D deficient your GP will prescribe you a high loading dose first.
The over the counter tablets won’t touch it.
My hair was falling out really, really badly a few years back due to a lack of vitamin D

VioletSky Sat 18-Feb-23 13:08:33

How long does it take to successfully get levels up and feel better?

FannyCornforth Sat 18-Feb-23 13:49:27

Hello VS
My hair stopped falling out almost immediately.
I can’t say that I felt any other benefits (other than good nails) as it was at the time when I got really bad with my hip etc.
I do wonder though if it (the lack of vitamin D) affected my bones.
My hair had been falling out for several years before I got to the bottom of it.
I was also peri menopause at the time but didn’t know it (my health is a catalogue of ostrich / sand type events)

FannyCornforth Sat 18-Feb-23 13:50:35

I think that I had to take the loading dose for a week or two, and then swap to the otc stuff

MawtheMerrier Sat 18-Feb-23 14:05:53

It hasn’t found its way here I’m afraid!

Smileless2012 Sat 18-Feb-23 15:22:47

Maw grin.

Where did you find that picture of me Maw? I thought all copies had been destroyed,

I never had one to start with.

Nor me Susie42 and in my considered opinion far, far better without

I nibble away at the edges of it and pretend I'm not really doing anything. Put one book away. Throw a few things in bin. Move something that's bothering me out of sight at least.
Sometimes I ignore everything that's going to.get done in the end anyway, like washing up, and tackle one of the things that's needed doing for ages but hasn't been done. If no energy at all sleep.or read a book.

Don't know what your illness was, but if it was viral you may have post viral fatigue, which can last for months apparently! I looked it up because I felt tired, lethargic and depressed after having a coughing virus which lasted a whole month. I never had a cleaning mojo but I just couldn't be bothered with anything (even my grandchildren!). I am pleased to say that I am now getting back to being "glass full" (rather than nearly empty - nothing in half measures here!) but even so, my energy levels still seem compromised - I still have to sit down after each job I do. I think you just need to accept that you are still recovering and that the housework is not going anywhere - it will still be there for you when you feel like tackling it!

Me neither, Susie!

Sorry about that Violetsky. I have never had a housework mojo. It's my one dislike at home. I like the house to be tidy but I never ever enjoyed cleaning and dusting and hoovering. When I worked I had a cleaner but now I am retired o cannot justify or indeed afford one now. I will cook and bake happily for hours. But housework was never something I enjoyed. It is and always has been a terrible chore to me.

Nansypansy Sun 19-Feb-23 11:33:34

I’m on your wavelength nipsmum. I like my house clean and tidy but loathe getting it that way. I do have a cleaner who just does basics for an hour but like you i can happily bake and cook and shop for groceries. I also like sewing but it’s a big fat NO to housework!

Jay21 Sun 19-Feb-23 11:54:53

My advice is just listen to your body and if you don't feel like it don't do it. Just trust that one day you will wake up and find your old self has returned. I do this when I get depressed and it always lifts eventually. Just trust x

I think covid has had an effect. Down the years we had regular visitors/overnight so a blitzt of cleaning and smartening up would happen ahead of them. I viewed the house thru others eyes and would notice a lampshade that needed replacing etc. With covid we have had few pass over the threshold save workmen so am less bothered to tidy place up etc.

Susie42- Neither did i 😂
