So my daughter informs me today is International Women’s day.
I am making a venison casserole, chocolate brownies and then bread to take away for our long weekend tomorrow.
I will then clean the downstairs of the house, iron and prepare supper😬.
How are you celebrating?

Wyllow3 Wed 08-Mar-23 17:48:47

Celebrate with WhatSapps and images exchanged. Remembering those brave ones who have paved the way to make out lives what they are now.

Bringing to recall the women in Afghanistan and Iran (and other countries) who can be murdered for simply wanting an education or dressing as they wish.

Bringing to mind brave policewomen and firewoman who are at last calling male colleagues out as are many of us who in working lives had to quietly beaver away against hostility. Oh, so very many!

A great need still to have our special day, whether we've done anything or not.

It's just another day. I've vacuumed, mopped and polished, and down the washing, put it on the clothes horse. That was after spending 4 hours at the hospital. Him Indoors is cooking a roast beef dinner smile

I’m away at a retreat
We are celebrating by discussing the history of the day and our contributions to the lives of women
Yes we are a group of women and men

Hi, First post here so hi everyone 👋
I have been to the gym, had a One You weight loss session by phone then did a tiny bit of housework. Now I'm having an hour listening to music all by myself. Wednesday is my only day I get free. I look after my lovely granddaughter on Mondays, elderly dad on Tuesday, work Thursday and Friday and I try and spend 1 day with my autistic 20 year old. Trying to get a good balance in my life this year as was full time until Christmas but it's not always easy. Definitely feel like celebrating being a woman today.

Gloryanny Don't be so dismissive. This was from a doctor at the screening centre.
We should be shouting out for women every day.

Post me a link for it and I might believe it. Otherwise my FC comment is just as valid.
So we should
But nothing wrong with a special day. Just back from the library. What did you say you were doing?

I’m wearing my suffragette earrings and my Woman Up trousers

I am, because I love the fact that International Women's Day just happens to coincide with my birthday!

It's been a rather strange day so far.

I'll ask DH to cook tonight 🙂

MrsKen33 Wed 08-Mar-23 15:44:23

Well it’s cold and wet here. DH made lunch, a lovely mushroom omelette and this afternoon I’ve dozed a bit, finished my library book, written a page or two and am now perusing GN.
Dinner is sorted , so what more could I want? A lovely day

We are no more special than men, but we are as special as men and it is because we are treated as if we are less special than men that we have this day of stating it.

Ladyleftfieldlover Wed 08-Mar-23 14:57:51

Radio 6 has been playing only music by women today. OH is cooking dinner.

I've celebrated International Women's Day every year since I retired, apart from the 2 covids when we did stuff on-line. The people I celebrated with identified as women and supported other women.
You don't have to celebrate it but why bring a thread down? Today should be about celebrating women, recognising the barriers they face and working to overcome them. I'm grateful for the friends I have celebrated with and the causes we have promoted.

Parsley3 That makes me so cross 🤬

Me too. I have heard that screening centres are sending invitations out to men who have identified as women to come for cervical screening.

I've heard that Father Christmas comes down chimneys.

Are prostate checks are offered to women?
What a waste of NHS funds.
International women’s day should be for anyone who identifies as a woman however the NHS offering cervical screening for someone born with tallywhackers is madness.

I now am retired, but as I formerly worked as a school-teacher having the day off never even occured to any of us as a possiblity.

Actually, I usually took part in the nearest Friday's Ecumenical Women's Day, where events were scheduled in working hours for those who for one or other reason did not work normal hours, and in the evening for those that did.

Where I live now, no-one seems bothered one way of the other about women's rights, so I find myself wondering how to find the energy to go back into the front line for equality between the sexes.
