Just that really.

Imagine the outcry from MM and PH if the long gone tradition of putting the newly married couple to be and then checking the sheets the next morning to see if the marriage had been consummated. And then having loads of people at the birth to make sure that the baby had not come from another mother!

Well, in that case, the outcry would be justified wouldn't it?

Or do you think we should resume this archaic practise?

Yes * Casdon*, I agree it is quite unusual to pick diminutives of the original name. I can't see George choosing to call his child either Willy or Cathy!

in their statement, they commented the act was performed by the Archbishop of Los Angeles Revered John Taylor,
when in fact the real Archbishop of Los Angeles is José H. Gomez.

Informing viewers about the statement over Lilibet’s christening, it was revealed John Taylor was once a journalist.

Picking up on Reverend John Taylor’s former career, Kate added: “A profession Harry’s not always keen on.

paddyann54 It's telling then that there's no Doria or Thomas amongst the names chosen.

😂

Don’t understand the Sussex’s logic for insisting their daughter is a princess? They went to the US to get away from the Monarchy so in my eyes they are total hypocrites wanting their kids to have titles!

Blackcat3 Fri 10-Mar-23 11:16:53

Just milking publicity….that they don’t want….ha ha! Eventually they will run out of things to talk about and just fade away….although all they talk about is themselves so this dull twaddle could go on forever! How often did we hear about Edward and Mrs Simpson? When they left…and when they died. They lived the quiet lives this pair want?…of course they don’t as they want the lives of the super rich and publicity they don’t want gives it to them!

Lostmyglassesxx Fri 10-Mar-23 11:18:08

Those two .. now I question the validity of the monarchy because they are all a bunch of …. I only like princess Anne
Everything that is bad about the royal family is plain to see now the queen has departed . I despise m and h and all they stand for and I have zero respect for Charlie boy

leeds22 Fri 10-Mar-23 11:23:38

I think it's rather amusing. They have stepped back from royal duties but want their children to have royal titles. So hypocritical.

Kikibee Fri 10-Mar-23 11:25:35

Surely if you give up your own title an royal privileges you will then give up your children's right to inherit..??

I think cake and eat it come to mind!

Nannashirlz Fri 10-Mar-23 11:26:38

The day the Charles became king his grandchildren became princess and prince but I’m surprised that they parents accepted it considering all that Harry claims he suffered if you had suffered would you put your kids through that. I think not lol ah poor Megan is the odd one out 🤣 she isn’t a princess.

pascal30 Fri 10-Mar-23 11:36:12

The Americans do so love titles...

Dillonsgranma Fri 10-Mar-23 11:42:40

They are such a two faced couple! Can’t stand the royal family and moved to America to avoid them . Had the cheek to name their daughter lillibet which was the queen’s childhood name. And even tough they loathe royalty insist she is known a princess lillibet. Makes me want to vomit

Lindy Fri 10-Mar-23 11:44:12

Well said MOnica!

lilydily9 Fri 10-Mar-23 11:54:26

I think the timing of the announcement was suspect as their popularity in America has plummeted and this could be seen as a deflection. And as Prince Harry appears to only ever find fault with the royal family, I find it rather hypocritical to want his children to have these titles. Princess Anne and Prince Edward both declined titles for their children so he could have well done the same if he finds royal life so abhorrent.

mokryna Fri 10-Mar-23 11:59:27

I suppose it’s one way round the American idea that titles from foreign countries are not accepted. She will be enrolled at a school or later given an invitation to some function, her first baptized name Princess will make them sit up and remember who she might have been. It will probably make her cringe and maybe she’ll drop it.

Juicylucy Fri 10-Mar-23 12:06:25

Oh I thought we were discussing the H&M stores, far more interesting.🤣

Don’t understand King Charles thought process with this.

Coco51 Fri 10-Mar-23 12:13:01

Ginge did another podcast with Gabor Mate and charged £19 for people to stream! I don’t get how that sits with wanting privacy. You’d think with all the terrible things said about the RF they’d decline. But no it is their ’BIRTHRIGHT’!
Total hypocracy.

sharonarnott Fri 10-Mar-23 12:14:41

Not my business nor anyone else's. I think it's sad that people haven't got better things to focus their attention on given the current state of the country and the cost of living. It's age old tradition and it is their family business and their choice.

I wonder why I think we should be a republic?
Charles has been able to agree this without the consent of the people, and it seems likely that if asked, the public would not agree to this. Harry and Meghan continue to sell their wares (their connection to the British royal family) and continue to badmouth them at the same time. It really is time that this whole pantomime was done away with, and the the former royals allowed to get on with living their very privileged lives in private. Harry and Meghan said that’s what they want, but Charles has just given them the green light to continue to milk the system by selling it for the rest of their lives.

enabenn Fri 10-Mar-23 12:27:21

Why do we even bother talking about this. It makes no difference to us.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Mar-23 12:34:47

As I understand the GC of the monarch are automatically Princes or Princesses unless the titles are declined which Princess Anne and Prince Edward have done for their children.

As soon as Charles became King Archie & Lilibet became Prince and Princess.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 10-Mar-23 12:35:34

We talk about lots of things that make no difference to us. Not sure what sharon thinks we might achieve by turning our attention elsewhere to a greater extent than we do already. What a miserable place GN would be if we talked solely about the state of the country and the cost of living. Most of us are able to focus on more than one thing at a time.

vegansrock Fri 10-Mar-23 12:39:07

It’s not remotely hypocritical if you think about the whole edifice that is an hereditary monarchy. It is hypocritical to support the notion of a monarchy on the one hand and complain about which family member has titles or not - that isn’t in the gift of the people. Us plebs have to like it or lump it and get whoever is the fruit of some rich person’s loins and whatever fancy titles they choose for their offspring.
