Hanging washing up to dry indoors is unhealthy both for you and your house, as the dampness encourages aches and pains in those of us who suffer from rheumatism and related complaints. It also encourages black mould to grow on your walls and woodwork.
Two very good reasons for not drying the washing indoors, either in an unheated room or using some kind of heating to dry it.
We all know the cost of electricity today, don't we? I have also read that a tumbler dryer is the piece of household equipment that uses most electicity and causes most pollution - two good reasons for only using one when it is clearly impossible to get the washing dry without it,unless you want mouldy smelling sheets etc.
I hang all my washing out, whenever there is a chance of drying it outdoors. I have never not hung underwear out. My mother and both my grandmothers did so too, although my maternal grandmother taught her daughers to hang cloth sanitary towels under a towel or pillow-slip, and my paternal grandmother insisted that even a married couples' underwear could not decently hang on the same line ( in Scotland in 1947!)
Your new neighbour is rude and has apart from no manners, no awareness of evironmental issues either, so take no notice of her or anyone else who does not want to look at your washing.
