Bath or shower - lighthearted!

I have just had a bath! Nothing remarkable about that you say, scratching your head.

We had a Shower put in around three years ago as part of a bathroom re curb, which I usually use. However this morning I had an urge for a nice deep bath like I used to have. I put in some of the expensive l’occitane. Gel my son bought me for Christmas and it was wonderful! I feel thoroughly clean now. I know it uses a lot of water, some people say you don’t get so clean, but it was so nice. I just lay back and thought of…….all sorts of things. Slightly in my defence is the fact I have had some leakage trouble down below recently so wanted a real clean (TMI!).

So what do people prefer? Remember this is a lighthearted discussion so effects on the environment etc are not allowed!

Had our bathroom refurbished last year, got rid of the unused bath and had a walk in shower installed.

If we get so we can’t stand up in the shower, will sit down on a stool.

Can’t see why a shower won’t make you feel as clean as a bath OP?

I too had a bath recently after regularly using the shower and it was so comforting and relaxing and I felt so much cleaner after.

I tend to alternate.

I like both and swap around depending on how much time I have. This morning will be a bath 🛁 with my new audio book.

Shower for me please, as it's what I'm used to from spending many years living in Singapore, Portugal and Cyprus. Baths never had quite have the same appeal for me in a hot climate, although I have enjoyed the occasional soak more recently perhaps when my aches and pains are playing up. Also, as I'm now pushing 80, the sheer effort of just getting in and out of a bath is quite a challenge, and I'm not about to invest in one of those "accessible" ones.

When I first bought this flat in 2014, I had the bath replaced with a walk in shower in preparation for my hip replacement. If necessary, it would have been easy for DH to help me post operatively then and again last Autumn after my heart surgery. 👍 🚿 ✔️ 👎 🛁 ✖️

Shower for me. We have a bath in one bathroom but only because the roof slopes so much there is no room for a shower in there.

Always prefer a bath. smile

Granmarderby10 Sat 01-Apr-23 08:26:19

Both ideally😊
But I have to “make do” with a wet room.
My solution has been (find a plastic chair) that *doesn’t look like it belongs in a care setting and a good quality plastic rectangular washing up bowl - one with a stopper for drainage. Sit under shower and soak feet in bubbles etc etc.
Have to hunt far and wide for these

In this retirement flat I only have a walk-in shower. I hate it. However, I could no longer manage the bath in my last house. I could get in, but getting out was another matter. How I miss it! I agree with those who think you never feel really clean with a shower. The water goes down you, but it doesn’t go round you, and I find I have to wash various bits separately, before or after the shower.

A bath is relaxing, a shower is not, and it isn’t any quicker. My baths took less than ten minutes if I didn’t choose to wallow. Get in, wash all over, get out.

nanna8 Sat 01-Apr-23 08:30:45

We have both. The bath is a small spa bath with 6 jets, very relaxing. If I have a bath I take a book with me and read, not something you could do in a shower!

Sallywally1 Sat 01-Apr-23 08:31:38

It’s what suits people really. I just found it amazing after three years to lie back in scented water. My problem is getting out! I have small rails on the bath, but my knees did hurt getting out, it’s what has been putting me off really. But I did it! (Now I will go on to save the world!). I wish. No just the usual. Have a lovely weekend.

Mollygo Sat 01-Apr-23 08:33:58

Both, and like Nanna8 we have a spa bath. I save it for weekends or GC visits. Showers are so quick, but a bath is so relaxing.

Bath, no doubt.
I hate showers- must date from school days.
Our bath is small, so doesn't take long to fill, or rather part- fill. I don’t stay in long, and takes me as long to get dry as to bathe.
But a bath reaches parts that a shower can’t.

One other thing about showers and wet rooms: ever tried (a) washing a young child and helping them rinse their hair ? Or (b) containing a reluctant dog in one ? That is without getting soaking wet yourself.
Perhaps resort to swimwear😅

ginny Sat 01-Apr-23 08:57:05

I would much prefer a nice relaxing bath but cannot manage getting out. So, showers have to do.

Mollygo Sat 01-Apr-23 08:59:57

Or (b) containing a reluctant dog in one.🤣🤣🤣
Our dog isn’t reluctant but I do go in there with her.

you can have a real clean in the shower by holding the shower head and putting it up and under and anywhere you want it!
puzzled by your remark!

biglouis Sat 01-Apr-23 09:15:15

The last time I had a bath (years ago) my arthritis made getting up a real problem so I have showered ever since. It uses less water (therefore cheaper) and is quicker. I have never been a fan of lying around in water.

biglouis Sat 01-Apr-23 09:16:32

As lemsip says you can use the hand shower to do all your "bits"

M0nica Sat 01-Apr-23 09:17:24

When we had a bathroom refit we installed a walk-in shower, as well as keeping the bath, so that should either of us find as we got older we could not get in and out the bath, we had an alternative

The only person who uses the shower is DD, when she visits.

I use our second bathroom because it has a huge 1960's plastic bath, as solid and nearly as heavy as a cast-iron one. I wallow in it, no bubbles, just hot water that flows over and around me.

Soaking in the bath is one of my mental and physical luxuries. I soothe my conscious water-wise by only having one every other day.

Showers are too much like hard work, You have to work at making sure you are thoroughly clean. In a bath, you relax and the water does all the hard work.

I am a spa visitor. For me water is meant to be relaxing.

dogsmother Sat 01-Apr-23 09:20:44

Shower every time. The dog is the only user of the bath in this house! It’s been the same for years….

Georgesgran Sat 01-Apr-23 09:48:01

I like both, but there’s nothing like a long bath with a book and a drink for relaxation. It seems to warm the bones and I’m so fortunate that getting in and out isn’t a problem.
Many years ago, we had a huge freestanding bath put into our family bathroom - I’ve never used it. In fact, I think the only person who has is my SinL after she completed the Great North Run, probably 15 years ago!

BigBertha1 Sat 01-Apr-23 10:04:18

Shower for me mostly and its the best place for hairwashing and leg shaving. BUT I love a nice bath after a cold day golfing or walking but I don't do it often. The bath in this house is huge and takes a lot of filling. You would think new houses would have small baths or no baths. A bath is lovely for my back.
