Hmmmm. I gather she's to be called Queen Camilla despite the late Queen stating that she should be Queen Consort. Albert was only the Prince Consort. Poor old Prince Philip wasnt even that. What's so special about Camilla? I was warming to her but I'm not so sure now. They're taking a risk with the public support.

No problem with that a Queen and a King sounds alright to me

The tampon comment was a comment between lovers it wasn’t meant for others ears Don’t tell me you never said anything fruity when with a lover

Why such a grudge Nicegranny she seems a pretty nice person and she obviously makes Charles very happy and that’s it really They’re all damaged by the ridiculous stuff that goes on around this rich dysfunctional family I think you ve got a distorted image of Diane she was going from man to man after things went wrong with Charles she didn’t exactly cry in a nunnery did she ? ….not that I blame her

The remark that was made by him years ago wishing he was Camillas tampon is pretty disgusting.

Well, you’re right about one thing. It was years ago! 🤔

icanhandthemback Wed 05-Apr-23 22:49:47

I think it is more likely to be a PR mistake. She won't ever be my Queen as far as I am concerned. I think she is as conniving as made out by her stepson.

You couldn't have two Queens using "Queen" while Queen Elizabeth was still alive, but it makes sense to shorten it and use it now. She is still the consort of Prince Charles, as was Prince Albert, who remained a prince but was still the consort of Queen Victoria.

The Royal family are quite good at following the rules just enough to make things work and move forward.

"The remark that was made by him years ago wishing he was Camillas tampon is pretty disgusting"

So a private conversation between 2 consenting adults, that should never have been made public, is "disgusting"? But you have no qualms calling a woman you've never met, never spoken to and never likely to meet, a trollope? Oh the irony! grin

Queen consort was just a stepping stone title. The late queen had a very canny way of dealing with tricky issues and would have known that the consort part would eventually be dropped.

It’s Charles who makes the rules now. Camilla had earned her official place at his side.

I agree.

She is a steady presence and it must be a comfort to have Camilla supporting him in what must be a lonely job, even more so taking it on in his 70s.

Kate1949 Wed 05-Apr-23 22:53:28

I agree with icanhandthemback. It's all worked out very nicely for them. I don't know anyone who thinks she should be queen.

Anniebach Wed 05-Apr-23 23:00:39

Charles did not say he wanted to be a tampon.

Diana was a mistress several times.

annsixty Wed 05-Apr-23 23:02:34

A good job you don’t know me then.
She is his choice, Diana never was.
I actually would get rid of the whole lot , BUT that isn’t going to happen and I think Camilla will do a good job of supporting Charles and think it should all end with him

Kate1949 Wed 05-Apr-23 23:04:11

Diana was a baby making machine. No wonder she had affairs.

Diana was a baby making machine. No wonder she had affairs.

Diana had a terrible loveless childhood so was very needy.
Charles needed a woman who could support him.
Unfortunately, although I think they both tried at first, their marriage just did not fulfil the needs of either of them.

It's how its done.

Just be glad that the king has an intelligent, hard-working and personable woman who isn't perpetually trying to steal the show at his side to support him, and we aren't being faced with the ghastly prospect of Queen Diana!

What a dreadful thing to say. So, in other words, you're glad Diana is dead?

Callistemon21 Wed 05-Apr-23 23:20:28

It really isn't going to make a jot of difference to any of our lives 🙂

henetha Wed 05-Apr-23 23:36:39

I don't think anyone is glad that Diana is dead. She was wonderful in some ways, but Camilla will make a much better Queen. Her title is irrelevant. She loves and supports Charles and has proved herself fit for the job.
Long live Charles and Camilla.

lemsip Wed 05-Apr-23 23:39:51

charles did not say he wanted to be a tampon

yes that's a correct statement!

He did say he wanted to be a *Tampax inside camillas knickers and be flushed down the lavatory*

yes, all on tape.

Nicegranny Wed 05-Apr-23 23:48:19

I find the remarks that I have a grudge against Camilla and that Diana had many lovers pathetic considering that Diana was a young virgin when she married Charles. The fact that Diana had to put up with years of humiliation at the hands of C & C I wouldn’t have blamed her at all for having a few lover’s and making it known to Charles.
It was a well known fact AnnieB Charles had said he wanted to be Camilla’s tampon.
I do agree that Camilla does seem nice and she does seem to support Charles , they do seem happy but they are both guilty of manipulating Diana and pulling the wool over her eyes, deceiving her.
Camilla has caused trouble for Harry also if you read his book.

pieinthesky Thu 06-Apr-23 00:03:57

The past is the past and we can’t rewrite history but times have moved on and it is obvious that Camilla makes Charles very happy. Broken marriage happen in all walks of life so why should Royalty be any different. The only difference is that with Royalty all the most intimate details of their relationships are blazoned across the newspapers and broadcast to the world. It’s time people put their prejudices aside and welcomed her as Queen.

Kate1949 Thu 06-Apr-23 00:16:34

Why should we?

Anniebach Thu 06-Apr-23 04:19:08

Charles did not say he wanted to be a tampon, fact.

I doubt the wives of the men she had affairs with would agree with you Nicegranny .

Harry said ! must be true , not.

rafichagran Thu 06-Apr-23 05:25:22

I like Camilla, and I do not mind her being called Queen. I really can't understand why people are so against this, she is the King's wife, and a support to him.

From what I have seen of Camilla she seems sensible, down to earth and pleasant.

Calendargirl Thu 06-Apr-23 07:07:53

Well, only according to Harry, who has proved to be economical with the truth on occasions.

Not half as much trouble as Meghan has brought to the RF.

nanna8 Thu 06-Apr-23 07:16:19

I like her. She is dignified and seems to be a wonderful support for the King. She deserves to be called a Queen.

Foxygloves Thu 06-Apr-23 07:32:53

If you are married to the King you become the Queen (+ name) as has been the case throughout our history - Caroline, Charlotte, Alexandra, Mary, Elizabeth (whom we knew as the Queen Mother, but within Palace circles was referred to as Queen Elizabeth to distinguish her from THE Queen after the latter's accession)
You don't earn the title or have to "deserve" it in anybody 's eyes. Every wife or partner of the monarch is technically their Consort -and the title of Prince Consort was in common use with regard to Prince Albert. Perhaps the exception was William and Mary who ruled equally.
I don't see why some people are getting so uptight or judgemental about it. It was a nod to the strong pro-Diana popular opinion of the time that Camilla was never called Princess of Wales, although, technically she was that person by dint of her marriage to the PoW.
Like it or not, and some clearly don't, but it is what it is.

It does make me smile that there is such support for a hereditary monarchy, where nobody has a say in who gets the job or whether they get to keep it for life, but people think they can have a say in what the Head of State's wife is called.
