'Queen Camilla'?

Hmmmm. I gather she's to be called Queen Camilla despite the late Queen stating that she should be Queen Consort. Albert was only the Prince Consort. Poor old Prince Philip wasnt even that. What's so special about Camilla? I was warming to her but I'm not so sure now. They're taking a risk with the public support.

Dickens
did Charles actually say that he resented Diana's popularity with the public? Or was it assumed?
.............................................

he said in a speech that he needed two wives as the public only wanted 'his wife' and not him when on walk about.
each side calling for Diana and not wanting him.

That was a comment misconstrued by the media. If you keep an open mind it could well be a compliment to Diana.

I still feel sad about the Queen but I wish Charles and Camilla a long life and happiness. Life’s too short to bear grudges and pass judgement against others.

My parents eventually divorced after a similar set up but after a few years of being angry and hurt I suddenly decided to let it all go. It was like having a huge weight off my shoulders.

Talking about mistresses - I see it is being suggested that Rose Hanbury’s son is a page boy at the coronation.

The royals certainly do things differently 😄😄

Just as well WWM2.
What would we talk about otherwise?

Nice to see ‘family members’ getting on.

What a wonderful story for a historical novel

Where’s Barbara Cartland when you need her?

And just think of all the insider knowledge she would have had!

Don't like it one little bit - and I've always been a Royalist!

I don't think anyone is glad that Diana is dead. She was wonderful in some ways, but Camilla will make a much better Queen. Her title is irrelevant. She loves and supports Charles and has proved herself fit for the job.
Long live Charles and Camilla.

Well said. I totally agree....and if Charles had been allowed to marry the woman he loved in his youth then Camilla would have been his queen anyway.

He wasn't banned from marrying her. He went off to sea on a long voyage and while he was away she married Parker Bowles who was quite a catch in those days.

They met when they were quite young but he didn't join the Royal Navy until the following year.
It was three years later, I think, that Camilla met and married Andrew P-B.

The RN doesn't always help the course of true love run smooth.

LadyHonoriaDedlock what was ghastly about the prospect of Diana being a Queen?
Bearing in mind that if she had lived she would be about 62 now.

Diana would be vulnerable if one of her lovers wives, or children, decided to sell their story to cash in and perhaps gain revenge.

His father’s family have always played a part in coronations so can’t see any reason why his son should be excluded because Giles Coren and Meghan Markle made up malicious lies when they were drunk. Coren made Avery public apology but his career has been damaged severely. He was well and truly Markled!

Gossip. But there was plenty of it

Widely known about, despite attempts to stop it getting into the media. Seems the royals can control what Murdoch prints when they really want to.

Thank you Fanny I just googled , William and Rose Hanbury
had dinner in a restaurant on St.Valentine’s Day and he gave her a pearl necklace, witnessed by a waiter.

People believe this 🙄

I'm inclined to disbelieve it but who knows. It is like everything we read in the press from a source!

Anniebach Mon 10-Apr-23 16:21:07

I don’t believe everything I read in the press

Me neither. It has less than 50/50 chance of being true, especially if it’s meant to cause trouble.

I think there was some snidey comment by Harry - in one of the Netflix programmes - about the Palace covering up William's scandals. Something along the lines of The Palace protecting William?
I don't know whether the affair happened or not, but I can guess what Harry might have been wanting to stir.

He might have also been talking about drunken antics or the like rather than an affair. I doubt William is lily white!

GagaJo Mon 10-Apr-23 17:03:29

This has been know about for 2 or 3 years. It's not new news.

Anniebach Mon 10-Apr-23 17:06:17

Is it news !

Joseanne Mon 10-Apr-23 17:13:22

4 or 5 years I think, when all the brotherly feuds started. I'm not saying William is lily white, and I also don't think he should have stuck his nose into who Harry chose to marry. But if I remember (??) the affair was found to be a made up story after one of the jokers apologised?

There was a story that William had been bullying Harry and Meghan, causing them to leave, and ‘they’ issued a joint statement from William and Harry saying it wasn’t true. Harry said he knew nothing about the statement, and that was the ‘lying to protect my brother’ he was referring to.
But still, you can apply the quote to anything that suits you!

Oh yes, it was all very secretive and clandestine then!
