I am travelling to London to watch the procession, hopefully from the Mall. Has anyone any hints? No 1 question is, will there be extra loos set up in St James Park? Are there likely to be food sellers? I shall arrive (by overnight bus) at 6am, hopefully that will be early enough to get a decent view.
I realise there is a wide range of opinions about the coronation. I wish the King and Queen well and want to be there to see the once in a lifetime spectacle.

Yes, there will be lots of extra portaloos set up all over the place, don't worry. And food trucks too. After the Queen died I went up to pay my respects and everything was provided.

I am sure it will be well organised. Lucky you will be able to take part in watching this once in a lifetime event ( for us oldies, anyway ). We will be watching it on our telly from Melbourne, wouldn’t miss it for quids. I am not even a royalist, either!

I envy you! It’s not really possible for me as I’m likely to be having my first cataract removed about then!

Yes I will be watching on TV, I love all the pomp ans ceremony that the UK does so well.
We are holding a street party in the church square of our small town in France. Queen Elizabeth was held in great esteem here not so sure about the new King. I wish the new King & Queen well for the future.

He seemed liked in Germany recently sodapop

Not for me I seem to move further from this rich family the poorer the country gets but that’s me I think Charles and Camilla however are good for the country if we continue to need a monarchy

I admire you going into those crowds Rubysong and I hope you have a lovely day I m sure there will be portaloos all over the place and plenty of food vendors but the prices will be sky high so I d take my sandwiches with me if I was you
Have a great time

I will be watching every second on my tv. Wouldn’t want to miss a thing.
Hopefully I’ll be on my own and not be distracted by visitors, phone calls or Dh wanting food.
Nice to be in the crowd Ruby and soak up the atmosphere but I like to see each part as it happens on my trusty tv.

I am looking forward to watching this piece of history on my tv. Wouldn’t want to go and see it in person, but good on you, rubysong, I hope the weather’s fine and you have a lovely day.

Great news that you are planning on going to the Coronation procession. Please tell us about it afterwards.

DD and friend are going up to London for the event. They plan to watch it on the big screens that will be set up in Hyde Park. Big screens will also be set up in other places.

I will put out the bunting that I first made for the late Queen's 50th anniversary in 2002 and will watch it on tv. Our local town has a famous bun throwing ceremony to celebrate big royal events. The Mayor and corporation stand on top of the town hall and throw buns to those in the market place below - and I will certainly attend that - I have yet to catch a bun.

We will be missing it as we are going to a wedding. Maybe it’ll be on catchup!

nanna8 Sat 08-Apr-23 08:38:47

We have put off a theatre night for it. I won’t be answering the phone but then I never do unless it flashes up with the name of the caller. Gradually the pain in the backside callers trying to sell stuff or get money are reducing. Drastic but worth it.

As at the last Coronation I, with DH will be watching it on TV. D.Gd lives in Windsor, and together with DD and her family will be out in the crowds. Fingers crossed the weather is fine, unlike last time when it was horrible, cold and wet, in June!!!

Sadly can't go up so we are going to have a bit of a gathering here.
Both my kids want to come here with my crazy mates.
We will dress up all wear Tiaras, or Hats, drink Fizz, eat cakes and sandwiches, hope the weather is good so the little children can go into the garden.

Thank you for all the replies and encouragement. It will be a long day from Cornwall and back. Small backpack with water and snacks, sandwiches, fruit etc. I have a folding stick seat to perch on and hope to sleep on the bus both ways. The TV at home will be set to record so I'll spend most of the Sunday watching.

I’m sorry but I don’t think you will see very much if you are planning to get to the Mall on the day of the Coronation. I suspect people will be camped out for days. On these occasions the tv reporters usually interview people who have been there for a long time.

ExDancer Sat 08-Apr-23 09:43:17

I agree, I think the people who have camped overnight for two or more nights will already have bagged the best places at the front.
All the same it'll be a wonderful day out for you. How far are you travelling?

Don't forget your St. Piran's flag!
Have a lovely time!

Second coronation in a lifetime for me. I was 13 at the last one, watched it on a neighbour’s tiny black and white tv. I think there was a colour film at the cinema later.

This time I shall watch every moment on a rather better TV set. I love these state occasions, though I have no particular affection for Charles, and still less for his wife.

Will people camp out? The view on TV is so much better!

My son lives very close to Windsor, but I think he’ll probably watch the tv coverage rather than brave the crowds (if any).

I'm with Grandma70s. Not much bothered about the new King but enjoy watching these occasions on TV. The commentary, the outfits the speculation etc. The music should be really something I've gathered.
Very pleased to hear about all the worthy charity people invited. The people I know if who have the BEM really deserve to be treated.

luluaugust Sat 08-Apr-23 10:10:11

I shall be watching from home. My mum and dad had seats on the route for the 1953 Coronation and mum said the wait between them going to the Abbey and coming back was the longest few hours of her life. Also glad to hear its a more mixed congregation this time round.

Jaberwok Sat 08-Apr-23 10:15:41

Well, I'm a Charles and Camilla fan, as are all my family, so wherever we are we shall be wishing them well. I was 10 at the last Coronation, my stepfather was a radio ham and had built our small black and white TV in his workshop in 1951. It worked well and we (my Granny, Uncles, aunt two very small cousins) gathered round for this great event. Later that day we went to the bun throwing and queued for a slice of beef which was being roasted whole in the market place. All in all, despite the weather a good time was had by all

biglouis Sat 08-Apr-23 10:27:01

I also was 10 and can remember watching on a 12 inch black and white TV with the room full of neighbours. We had several street parties as we lived in a long avanue with several connecting streets where cousins lived. So we attended about 3. I can also remember winning a prize in school for a "coronation scrap book". My grandmother was a strong royalist and gave me some wonderful magazines to cut up.

Take plenty of loose change for the loo plus lots of sandwiches and snacks. I would take a mixture of cards and cash to buy food and supplies if needed. Dont forget comfy and suitable clothes in case it rains - the weather in May can still be very unpredictable.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 08-Apr-23 10:41:13

I was six and watched the coronation at Hyde park corner under a policeman’s cape right in the front - it bucketed.
We travelled up from Cornwall.

This one - I shall watch from my sitting room.
