I thought I'd start a new thread because I don't want to spoil the pleasure of the monarchists or let the thread turn into a slanging match.

What will you be doing on Coronation Day? Will you watch it for the historical value? Will you hide from every TV? Are you planning a day out?

Depending on the weather we may do some jobs in the garden and sit in the sun, go out to somewhere miles away from TVs and celebrations, or visit the empty shops. Tbh I'd sit in a dark room for the whole day if it was the only way to avoid the expensive farce.

At least one person wholeheartedly agrees. Well said.

My d.I.l.’s mother is a die-hard royalist. She has invited a few of us to join her in the celebrations. I bet there’ll be bunting and biscuits …

paddyann54 Sat 08-Apr-23 11:44:59

I've never watched a royal event in my life and I wont start now .If the weathers good I'll garden if its not I'll cook and restock my freezer after its spring clean .
I'm sure Charlie wont notice I'm absent

I expect I will be working, but as it is a senior care home l expect it will be on the TV, not that I’ll have time to sit and watch it!!
The highlights on the evening News will suffice..

Good excuse for our cul-de-sac to meet out the front and drink proseco and eat cake.

Grammaretto Sat 08-Apr-23 11:55:28

I am not bothering about it at all. Hate the expense but a lot of people enjoy this in their otherwise very dull lives so let's all be kind to them wink

Jaxjacky Sat 08-Apr-23 11:57:08

Don’t know yet, it’s a few weeks away, we don’t generally plan ahead unless it involves other people.

Same here but there will be tables laid out. Bunting up ( I have permission to close the close) music and dancing.

I'm going to make myself a couch-nest, buy a big bar of chocolate and read a book!

boheminan Sat 08-Apr-23 12:10:22

Found out yesterday the crowning bit's on Monday, not Saturday, so need to re-arrange long made plans that involve staunch royalists who'll be glued to giant telly watching it all. I can't be bothered with any of it, another waste of money.

JaneJudge Sat 08-Apr-23 12:10:51

I will most probably watch it just for the historical value whilst eating a selection of cheese and drinking wine. Actually i have a bottle of port I opened at christmas, does it keep? Someone bought it me as a gift and I had quite a good measure and it knocked me out grin

Calendargirl Sat 08-Apr-23 12:11:58

Well, I shall be watching it from start to finish.

It will brighten up my otherwise very dull life Grammareto.

Calendargirl Sat 08-Apr-23 12:12:53

Your port will be fine JaneJudge.

Ooh, are we not doing gin in the greenhouse? sad

FannyCornforth Sat 08-Apr-23 12:15:28

Mind you, gin doesn’t go with cheese…

JaneJudge Sat 08-Apr-23 12:17:35

what do you mean, gin doesn't go with cheese? Gin goes with everything smile We shared a bottle of wine in the greenhouse yesterday afternoon, first time it has been pleasant really to do so

FannyCornforth Sat 08-Apr-23 12:17:37

I’m sorry VQ, I’m going to start a thread on the back of this one, I hope that you don’t mind.

lemsip Sat 08-Apr-23 12:18:33

this thread will just turn into more of the same sentiments already on here.

JaneJudge Sat 08-Apr-23 12:22:16

to be fair lemsip, I imagine most people will be glad of the day off work but I hope - unlike the Queen's funeral- my day off will be paid this time <pigs might fly>

Same here. Hopefully it'll be a nice day weather-wise and we can get out into the garden.

Good idea for a thread vampirequeen.

We'll be on holiday, driving to an isolated cottage on the actual crowning day. No street parties or fake tiaras for us. It is Saturday, I think, boheminan. Monday is the "volunteer for something " day.

Franbern Sat 08-Apr-23 12:33:11

I booked trains to go to London that weekend. Will stay with my eldest daughter. On the Saturday she will drive me over to see my BiL and SiL (who has alziemers). Each time I see her a little more had disappeared. We will all totally ignore any of the expensive bread and circus on tv.tw
On the Sunday I will be driven to see my youngest daughter and two youngest g.children. They moved house just before xmas, and this is likely to be my only chance to see their new home.
I will return home on the Monday. So, hopefully, will b able to totally cut out anything to do with this business of one man placing a heavy hat on another man.

Really is time that all these ridiculous titles, ermine, dressing up, and touching the forelock, became a thing for history.

Gillycats Sat 08-Apr-23 13:03:09

I’ll be watching it at home. Really looking forward to it. It will give a lot of people a great deal of pleasure especially with local celebrations.
