The household name could soon be history if it’s not bought over.
I’m sure a great many of us will have gone to a Tupperware party in the past. And probably still have some of it in use. Were any of you involved in selling it?

Yes the parties were a bit difficult at times, but if you lived in a small town with a limited number of shops it was also a social occasion. It was quite expensive but as lots of people have said it was good quality and lasted for a long time if you treated it properly.

I didn't know they were still going either. I think they suffered from people buying cheaper copies. I know i bought a lot of them. I couldn't afford Tupperware and if i went to a Tupperware party i always bought the cheapest item.

I like my tupperware
I have cupboards full of it.
I even buy the kids stuff as it lasts practically forever and if it does break or warp I can just exchange it.
I still have tupperware in the lovely orange, brown, and avocado 🥑 greens. 😆

Ah yes the shape sorter - has occupied my children and now their children. There was also the toy animals that you pulled apart, 3 of them one was a giraffe - don’t know what happened to them tho. Expensive at the time I know but they have been amazing !

Back in the 70s, our neighbour was dubbed the Tupperware Queen by her husband who hated it. She often said no matter how much she bought, she never had enough.
One day, she had occasion to go to the garden she’d and guess what she found, thrown into a corner. 😂

At one of the tupperware parties we played a game at the beginning . I won a yellow egg seperator and use it regularly .

I have a rolling pin from approximately 50 years ago , and more recently have bought several items of Tupperware online . One of my favourite pieces is my baking sheet , a must when rolling out pastry . In the present catalogue is the children’s shape sorter that was available in the 1970s now for around £50!

I still have a tall container with a blue dispensing top I use for porridge oats. It must easily be 40 years old. I remember the party holder demonstrating those little circular dishes with lids which were so useful. She said "these are great for measuring out breakfast cereal the previous night to save time in the morning" and several people including me purchased a set. Some time later one disgruntled buyer complained that she had tried it but the cereal was soggy next morning. The seller said that just wasn't possible if she'd put the lid on. Further conversation revealed that the woman had measured the cereal, added milk and then put the lid on😂

I love my Tupperware, I’ve had lots for at least 30 years and it’s still going strong. In fact, I bought three bowls from Amazon recently as I was tired of buying cheap imitations that are nowhere near the quality of Tupperware.

I’m originally from Canada and back in the early 80s, when my friends and I were all getting married, one of the several wedding showers we each had would be a Tupperware party. The guests would buy the bride a piece of Tupperware . Games would be played and I recall wearing a lettuce keeper as a bonnet. Happy days!
I also inherited a load when my aunt died. I still have most of it. Colanders, storage containers, you name it, I still use it. Although expensive at the time, it really was the best of its type. I recently asked my sister, who lives in Toronto, if she could get a couple of replacement lids for me as a mouse had chewed through the container I stored some bird seed in. After a hunt, she managed to buy them from a US site and is bringing them to me next month. Yeah!

Yes I did Tupperware parties many years ago but don’t think I’ve got any of it left. I remember the lettuce crisper and the long oblong salad box. I loved the giveaway items …. Tiny containers, orange peelers etc. After Tupperware I had a go at Avon and then did my own clothes parties when I had to find wholesale suppliers. All good fun when you’re young and need to earn an extra bit of cash ….

I hadn’t realised before that Tupperware was an American company.
Off on a tangent Nansypansy -you mentioned Avon but does anyone recall Pippadee clothing parties or Vanda cosmetics in the 1970s ?

My Mum has loads of tupperware boxes, so did my Nan, a whole cupboard of it.Funny thing is it was never used, never saw any boxes of stuff in the fridge.confused

My Nan also had a lot of white pyrex with colourful borders which I inherited and I love.Very useful and retro😄

My only Tupperware item is my beloved rolling pin.Fill with cold water , no effort needed.Brill.

Horrid pressure selling, I went to a pippa Dee party and hosted a couple, like Tupperware it was overpriced but did last a long time. In the 70s and 80s that was sometimes the only way a woman could earn anything so you felt obliged to buy to support your friend

I remember Tupperware parties and I loved it at the time, especially the poultry keeper and the square rounds! I didn't realise it was still around as Lock n Locks seemed to have taken over.

Wow! I still have a bright yellow Tupperware spoon designed to lift boiled eggs from a pan. Also have an orange spatula which I use when making batters and cakes. A rolling pin and a weird little clear plastic strip that locks together so you can put it around a tea towel, curtain or anything you want to hold back. That was a game prize.

The lemon juicer! I still have mine and it’s the best I’ve ever had. It’s red and sits on a round Tupperware pot or any other suitable bowl.

It disappeared at one time and none of the substitutes were as good. It was then found down the back on a cupboard. It must have fallen out of the back of the drawer and been sitting there for ages until the kickboard was removed for some reason. I was very happy to have it back. 😁

I still have three small bowls, but only one lid, one tiny bowl and a cheese board with a lid. I had quite a bit at one time I including the sandwich boxes. I think I probably have at least one of them in a cupboard somewhere too.

Check it out on eBay. Some of that white Pyrex with the pattern is fetching amazing prices!

I think Tupperware has become, like hoover, a generic term for plastic boxes. Well it has here.

Foxygloves Tue 18-Apr-23 11:14:34

Here too!
Lock&Lock boxes , Joseph and unbranded are generically termed “Tupperwares”
Of course long long ago when the children were small, they were”ice cream boxes” but a) I don’t often buy ice cream, and b) it seems to come in titchy tubs no use to man nor beast.

kittylester Tue 18-Apr-23 11:17:17

Carte d'or boxes are just the right size for 2 portions of whatever here and DD3 puts 3 (growing) children's portions in them.

Personally, I like lakeland colour coordinated ones.

Foxygloves Tue 18-Apr-23 11:22:39

But is there ANY magic formula for having the right size of lid to hand when you have just filled the tub with soup or stew?
I have a cupboard full of lids which seem to fit nothing at all, but if I chuck them, I know what will happen!
