Varian’s thread on the average gransnetter led to a few posters outing themselves as Daily Mail readers. One poster also reads the Guardian. I too am Spartacus. I read the DM on line. I buy the Guardian. That’s two of us šŸ˜

I read several papers on line including, quite often, the DM.
I always liked the Sunday colour supplement. I like the Femail section and some of the recipes and foodie section are great. The Money section is very informative and current.

A lot of people are just snobs about the DM but they are too dim to realise that a lot of their reporting comes from papers and medical organisations that they WOULD like to be associated with.

The DM have launched some huge campaigns and fought for justice for people but the snobs prefer to ignore this.

One of the best books I ever read was by former editor of DM, Martin Townsend. It was about his father who had serious mental health problems which blighted all their lives while he was growing up on a council estate. It was totally engrossing and honest and is one of the few books I never passed on to charity. He emailed me personally to thank me for my comments about the book.

We all know about subliminal messaging MayBee70.
We weren't born yesterday.

Then why was I accused of implying that someone lacked intelligence by reading it?

I read daily mail online.

Who cares who knows. I dont.

There are so many rules in life already, that I dont succumb to society ones if I dont want to.
Life is too short and all that.

Well, it wasn't me.

Tackle whoever it was.

And it's nobody else's business.

I would read the Times, Guardian etc. I do occasionally as at least can see headlines.
But they are behind paywalls. So not paying.
I think the DM must be generous or something.

I read the Daily Mail and I couldn’t care less what people think about it. I also read the Telegraph and the Sun online occasionally. There’s times when I might look at the Express. I have been known to read the Guardian online too. I’m subliminally influenced by Sky news and the BBC. In short, I’m subliminally influenced and totally confused. And if you believe that, you’ll believe anything. Honestly !!

The Guardian is emphatically not behind a paywall, which you would know if you had, actually, tried to read it online.

But not too dim to understand that the DM takes a news story and puts it own spin on it.

It does tell you off if you read too many articles

volver3 Wed 12-Apr-23 17:19:14

No it doesn't. It tells you how well you are doing at reading lots of Guardian articles.

Millions of people read the DM so I don’t think you will be missed.

Not sure- but one would assume that if someone chooses to read it regularly, it is because they support the stance that it takes on many things- and on foreigners and EU in particular? No?

I worry about how propaganda is affecting our society.

Especially when I read the comments from some Grans.

Perhaps yes.

Which is different from being neutral and being influenced by subliminal messaging/advertising.

a. do not accuse me of lying. I dont ly. Dont even know how to spell the word. I have not lied since I was 5.
{But I am learning how you react, so I assume I waste my breath].

b. it lets you read 3 articles per month. or something.

if you know different do please tell me how I can get to see about 30 per month. Please.

Daisymae Wed 12-Apr-23 17:28:56

I subscribe to the online editions of the Guardian and the Times. I like the puzzles in the Times and a balance of views. They do annoy me now and then and I think about cancelling but I don't. I read the Mail but wouldn't pay for it.

fancythat Wed 12-Apr-23 17:30:09

If you do not respond well to the above post, I will know how to react to you in future. [which wont be bad, more of an ignore stance].
Thank you.

Oh, OK...

a. You are still getting it wrong, so you haven't looked properly, which is not the same as lying. I never accused you of lying.

b. You can read as much as you like. I went to look at a random article and this is the message I got. I don't subscribe.

So just read the articles.

fancythat Wed 12-Apr-23 17:39:46

Thank you.

But b. I cant. Maybe it is my very old computer?

If anyone else knows or can help too, then please do.

Hermother Wed 12-Apr-23 17:39:56

Why do I buy the Daily Mail? To wind volver up of course! grin And worth every penny it is too!

fancythat Wed 12-Apr-23 17:40:59

I presume we are talking the same newspaper, The Guardian, the national one?

Perhaps a combination- a tendency to have those beliefs and opinions, so not neutral, and then for the DM to confirm, compound and multiply.

How much does a subscription to DM cost per month? Would you pay it if you didn't actually support what they peddle (and peddle they do!).
