She revolutionised fashion in the sixties and I loved her designs. I found her shop in Kensington (?) but never dared to go inside.

An absolute game-changer! Fashion has never been the same since.
Did anybody see that wonderful exhibition a few years back at the V&A?

J52 Thu 13-Apr-23 15:52:28

How sad, but a real icon of the fashion world. I wish I’d kept my Quant dress and jacket. Not that they’d fit!
The recent exhibition was a wonderful tribute to her.

Mary Quant was just what we needed. At last we didn’t have to dress like our mothers.

RIP - A truly great fashion icon.

Wonderful designer. RIP sadly missed. No one like her today

Kalu Thu 13-Apr-23 17:13:41

I was at the hairdressers when I read this sad news.
He told me that particular cut was called a 5 point cut, a cut started by Vidal Sassoon which may have been responsible for his quick rise as a hair stylist.

I would love to have seen that exhibition Foxy Hoping it comes our way at some point.
I had forgotten about the matching tights and berets I wore in the 60s. Still to this day I have a collection of coloured tights and berets.

I loved her Look, although I was always too fat for it!!

Very sad to hear this news. Feeling very nostalgic and reflective. Great times back in the 60s. Such a remarkable woman. Condolences to her family.

I wish that exhibition would come to Brum. It's going to be in Glasgow from May to October.

I’ve heard the name but didn’t know what she looked like before.
She was really attractive and the hair and clothes looked great, I just looked them up.
She must have been around 30 back in the sixties.

I went to the exhibition at the V&A when it was on. Loved her clothes and makeup.
Also recently watched a tv program about her life and how she got started.

*Quant, Biba and Bus Stop, Kensington High St.. I remember them well.. great designers.. we were lucky"

I used to love the Biba shop and visited it every time I went to London. I still have an oriental coffee set and some perfume bottles I bought there. Mary Quant was one of my girlhood idols. I loved her clothes and the entire scene she created. From time to time I get some of her hair combs and jewelry in my shops and they fly out the door.

Yes, I discovered it was on at Kelvingrove. However, ticket sales have been temporarily put on hold out of respect for the death of MQ.
Fingers crossed it comes you way too Kate1949 🤞

Thank you Kalu.

How sad. I had a five point hair cut and loads of Quant clothes. Sadly I didn’t keep any. Although I still wear my hair in a bob.
Anyone remember’Dolly rocker ‘ dresses.? Another 60s company

karmalady Fri 14-Apr-23 06:21:12

my best years, courting, dancing, parties. I made many dresses from Mary Quant designs and a friend made a white crochet dress. She was synonymous with that part of my life, I would say the most fun part. I am so glad she was who she was. Her and the beetles era, pure magic.

You didn’t know what Mary Quant looked like?
That’s quite an admission.
I’ve known who she was since I was about 10 years old.
She was an absolute legend.
RIP Mary 🌼

I remember being delighted to find some MQ nail varnish in Woolworths circa 1985.
It was a really, really dark red, exactly like Chanel’s Rouge Noire, nearly 10 years its junior

FannyCornforth Fri 14-Apr-23 07:43:22

This was it

kittylester Fri 14-Apr-23 07:55:22

Mary Quant, Terence Conran, The Beatles and the Stones. A brilliant combination and a fabulous time to be alive.

FannyCornforth Fri 14-Apr-23 08:00:18

I was obsessed with all things 60s in the 80s when I was a teenager.
I used to scour the charity shops in search of mini dresses.
I was told that I looked like Jean Shrimpton
(spoiler: I don’t anymore)
