Crumbs, that was a shock to the system

I know the feeling Kitty. This year our eldest son will be 60. Just remember his little 'Michelin Man' legs kicking away in his pram and thinking how wonderful he was. Course he still is, but now with a lot more hair and over 6 feet tall.

It is really quiet scary how time is flying by, I do not feel old on the inside only when I see my reflection 🤣🤣👵👵

Someone was talking about all the fuss over 1999/2000 New Year when all our tech was supposed to stop working. I was surprised to realise that even that was 23 years ago.

1973 I turned 20, this year I will be 70! That cannot be right?

In the 60’s, when the Millenium was being discussed I remember thinking I will be so old then at 47!

When I was researching for my thesis - in the 2010s - I was told not to use "old" references. As far as I was concerned they weren't old. They dated from the 70s, so easily within living memory (and relevant if nothing had been written on the subject since)!!

My Michelin-leg boys now have much less hair though!

Mine have more on the face but less on their head!!

1973 was my second year of teaching,I was really enjoying it.
My parents were alive and we were all enjoying life looking forward to my possible wedding the next year.
DH was due to qualify and get his degree. Life was in front of us.
Now it is behind and we look back with nostalgia and have the grandchildren to brighten the skies when we manage to see them.

I feel like I’d got on a train in 1973 , it then raced by at top speed , and now I’ve got off the train in 2023 , only to find I’m now 50 years older and the best years of my life has passed by in a flash.

Very often things from the past spring to mind for no apparent reason , some with happiness some with sadness .

The only consolation is that I’m now much more confident, knowledgeable and wiser and have my lovely grown up children and grandchildren to enjoy .

I know what you mean kitty. Although our granddaughter is 23 and the light of our lives, it still feels strange when she introduces me to someone saying 'This is my nan'. Although I love being her nan, I feel like saying 'No you don't understand. I'm still in mini skirts and Afghan coats'.

Mum was horrified when my sister turned 60. "Fancy having a daughter whose a pensioner" she cried. That was now 18 years ago and sadly neither are with us now.

Watching the TV last night some one mentioned something being 50 years ago. It was quite a shock to discover they meant 1973!!

How the heck did that happen?

Well yes, a true shock as our DD1 will be 50 soon (so probably something happened in ... 1972 ;) )

I got on the wrong train in London in 1970 ... the rest is a long history (I asked a young man to help me- and we married in 1971...)

I do often wonder how I can possibly be 74. How on earth did that happen?
(though better than the alternative, I know…)

It always feels "no way!" but when I think about it my Nan was born in 1897 and I carry her stories and my mums and Dad's stories and everything that happened - what a rich tapestry - its almost impossible to think what a different sense of history our grandchildren will grow up with.

I get a shock when I have to enter my birth date online and I scroll forever to reach 1937!!
I keep expecting that one time it won’t go as far as that.
However I do know I am far from the oldest GN member.

To add to that it is 4 years today since my DH died, it seems like a lifetime or yesterday, depending on the day or the memory.

I wonder what my lot would say if I wore a mini skirt, especially with bare legs?
I think I'd be too busy laughing at the looks on their faces to hear whatever came out of their mouths!

I hope it was clear that the mini skirts and Afghan coats were in my head only! I don't go swanning around in them now at 73.

Are you talking about when they mentioned Emmerdale had been on air for 50 years Kitty? I was shocked too. My DH and I were having a discussion about a 70 year old he met who was learning to ride a motorcycle and I thought he was too old until I realised my DH is 65 and I'm 62 and we ride 😂😂
