Keeping up appearances - or not!

I like this post! I am like you, I can still be in my dressing gown until I am due to go out later in the day. My sister thinks this is disgusting. She wakes every morning at 7am and showers and dresses immediately. When she stays with me I find it really annoying that when I get up she is already on the sofa ready to go out. If I stay at her house I have to shower and dress immediately or get disapproving looks over breakfast! Why can't we just accept that everyone is different?

I used to wear kaftans but haven't owned one for years.

Bazingagranny. Kaftans and slip on canvas shoes are perfect indoors or in the garden until I think about getting dressed before noon.
I have a fill length red one and whenever I wear it, DH wishes me a blessed day. 😄…..Handmaids Tale to clarify.

I gave up on the Good Morning thread ages ago, Foxygloves, it was nearly over by the time I stopped to look 😂

Mind you, I had put on six loads of washing and thoroughly cleaned the house from top to bottom by the time I stopped for a coffee and to look at GN.
Not to mention mowing the lawn and weeding the garden

I always get dressed as soon as I can after I get out of bed around 8.15 am, not because I want to but because my Mum always referred to the film Lady in a Dressing Gown if I didn't and I still hear her saying that every time I'm not dressed and presentable by 9.00am. I am always so envious of most gransnetters who can get up and go straight out to have a stroll around the garden centre, read a book etc etc. Not my Mum but my granny and a very uptight Aunt always cleaning, baking, ironing, folding and colour coding towels etc etc has turned me into having ocd with all of those things before I am unable to relax which is about 8.45 each evening. I am then so tired I shower watch a bit of TV and go to bed. Retirement shouldn't be like this. Has anyone got any ideas how I can relax more please?

I am usually driven by needing structure in my day. Up, showered, dressed before going downstairs. and its rare to have a PJ type of a day but they do happen. Annoying to be caught out but hey ho. In our own home we can both suit ourselves.

I'm up and working by 7am, take DGS to school for 8.30. Once I'm home though, in front of my laptop ready for the real days work, I'm back in dressing gown and slippers! Looking for all the world as if I've just got up. I wish! 🤣🤣🤣

How is it that no house calls before 12 happen all week but on those days you get up at blooming 5.30 am mooch about a bit before you do the vacuuming, dusting, washing, ironing and deciding on a shower when you have just finished slouching with your your coffee and catching a bit of daytime TV at 11am that the doorbell rings..Its the same when you sneak back to bed with a cheeky coffee and are still there at 9 am and your friend facetimes looking all smart and with perfect hair and make up. It's blooming annoying.

Forgot to say Foxygloves not to feel guilty about what you do, enjoy your life I bet you earned it.

Retirement sounds fun, can’t wait tho will have to as many more working years to come.On my work days I get showered and dressed early on days off I stay in pjs until around 10 a.m.

Ahhh, retirement! For 73 yrs I had to be a morning person and make that nasty commute. For the last two yrs I’ve been able to sleep in. My typical day now:
• no alarm, awaken between 7-9:00AM
• feed the cat
• COFFEE
• MORE coffee, check phone stuff
• read the NYTimes, play Wordle
• (11:00) What for breakfast, make it
• what chores, tasks around the house
• shower and dress - NO BRA (outlawed!)
• emerge into the real world for errands, groceries, volunteer, or lunch with friends
• come back home and thank the good Lord I made it in one piece for another day
• feed the cat
• cocktail, anyone? Dinner, anyone?
• go to bed and start the vicious cycle all over again.

Even though I am housebound and the only person I see for an hour every morning is my help I don’t feel right unless I wash and dress straight after breakfast.
I have tried to stay in my night dress but by lunch time did not feel right.

Now I’m retired I love having the freedom to wake up, get up, shower & get dressed when I’m ready. I only set my alarm if I have an appointment or if I’m going out for the day. Sometimes I’m up earlier than others depending how I’ve slept. The first job when I’m up & dressed is to walk my dog, then it’s back home for a large coffee. Luckily my dog enjoys a bit of a lie in too.

Interesting - I didn't know M&S sold Cyberjammies.

I've been wearing Cyberjammies nighties for a few years - they're very good quality with interesting fun patterns!

They seem to be an ethical company, in as much as one can ascertain these things - British but goods made in India and paying their workers higher than the legal minimum.

They do have interesting patterns.
Better nightwear than they used to maybe.
But as I said in the last post, two stores didnt have all of the ones on the link, by quite some way as far as I could see.
But I certainly do not live in an area noted for its fashion.

After 51 years of marriage and the last 27 looking after my invalid ( stroked out) husband , as his nurse…then later as dementia the Alzheimer’s kicked off as his psychiatrist! I feel that as he’s now gone into full time care ( after my third stroke!) I’m entitled to do what the hell I please . That includes going to bed and sleeping ( instead of sitting in a landing chair watching him wander the upstairs rooms all night ) that was a two year stretch! Getting up when I please , after my brain teasesing on line with my Elevate app! Doing an hour of my Spanish course and reading my latest ‘on the go’ book….I can and do wander the house NOT doing housework ….usually in pj’s until I’m ready to face the day. It’s your life …live it as you damn well please . It’s taken me 51 years to discover who the hell I was meant to be! And I like it!

I went to two m&s stores today. In neither did I see the first about 10 on the link.
I was disappointed! But it wasnt quite what I was after anyway. But I did want to see them to see how they looked in reality.

Perhaps they can only be obtained online? I dont know.
