It's Fleurpepper

A regular poster and quite a nice person from what I can tell

Just don't answer if you don't want to

Well, we do know Fleurpepper, in fact many of us have 'known' her for many years and I'm quite sure she has no ulterior motive for asking.

But posting personal information could be picked up by others who are not even on GN and used for other purposes.

Well thank you. Of course there is no ulterior motives. Just followed discussion with friends, and the thread by kitty.

I understand this could be misused, although it never crossed my mind. Same as the info given on kitty's thread.

I don't think there is anything sinster about this post. I am not answering the question as I am not really certain.
This is not the sort of question I would ask as I have no interest, but FP is a regular poster and she asked as a matter of intrest after a conversation with a friend.
I think some of the replies have been harsh, and judgemental, and the assumption that she is lonely and bored was unkind and unnecessary.

I don’t understand this interest in our parents. Why? It’s the sort of information that could be useful to scammers. And very personal.

That is why I have not posted on the similar thread.

Me too, I'm afraid. Can't be too careful.

How very rude and wrong.

As said, we discussed with with friends very recently. And kitty started on thread on shock of finding ACs reaching 50, and some mentionning 60. Quite simple, really.

kittylester didn't start a thread on shock of finding ACs reaching 50 at all.

She started a thread mentioning something that began 50 years ago - possibly a TV soap and it was a general musing about how time flies.

Other posters mentioned ages of their DC.

VioletSky Tue 18-Apr-23 18:11:55

I've never been asked either as a security question

But cool of you think scammers can use it, say so

But no need to have a go at OP who asked for a different reason

Hithere Tue 18-Apr-23 18:09:19

This is so internet safe, same as parents dob

henetha Tue 18-Apr-23 18:08:36

Why do you want to know?

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Apr-23 18:07:09

VS that’s not the point. Anyone can read GN and this sort of information is useful to scammers - we see many of them and who knows how many are just reading?

Mollygo Tue 18-Apr-23 18:06:29

No one has to reply, and those who think it’s like phishing can say so if they want. No problem.

Ever heard of Phishing?

Well I can assure it isn't. Never crossed my mind. And since no-one has to reply...

NO it is not- it is a simple question and with *Much more sensitive, so please do not reply if this is too much for you.*

A request is a question and according to Google does not need a question mark.

Germanshepherdsmum Tue 18-Apr-23 17:57:22

‘How old were your parents when they died?’ or ‘When were your parents born?’ seems to me like a request for exactly that information. If you don’t understand how this information is of use to the many scammers we know pick up on GN threads, you’re very naive.

May I suggest that a thread to elicit the information in which you seem to be interested might be entitled ‘What changes to everyday life would your parents have experienced during their lifetimes’? Something of interest to many I would think, certainly to me, and to which many would be happy to contribute without compromising personal details.

Fleurpepper Tue 18-Apr-23 17:57:14

Blimey - it seems some posters were ready and happy to pounce. No-one is asking or requesting anything at all.

I find it very interesting to consider what our parents went through and experienced over their lives.

Kalu Tue 18-Apr-23 17:53:41

What’s with all this prying into posters personal details OP?
Similarly with yet another thread you started but refused to answer my question, what is the point of your thread?
These are intrusive questions which could easily out many posters so my reply is…non of your business.

I would like to know why this information is being requested - none of which I have given or would give.

No-one has requested anything at all. Have you read the title OP?

Fleurpepper you have asked us to post how old our parents were when they died, that is by my reckoning a request

MerylStreep Tue 18-Apr-23 17:50:33

Without being mean, I suspect the OP is either lonely, bored or just wanting to start posts and is running out of interesting topics.

I couldn’t agree more. Who sits at home thinking of this stuff.
