Much more sensitive, so please do not reply if this is too much for you. How old where your parents then they died.

My mother was 61 and my father was 71,and just to add,my sister was 57 and my brother was 55.my grandma was 60 and grandad was 70.
There`s not much hope for me is there lol.

Fleurpepper is a regular poster and there is nothing sinister about her question.

Both my parents have passed away. Dad was 82 when he died and Mum was 92. There was an age gap of 22 years when they married . Mum was 18 and Dad was 40. I was the youngest of 9.

I would not provide ANY personal info on line about my family, either living or deceased. What possible interest could anyone have in my parents age at death? Strange, and just a wee bit questionable, despite the so-called nod to sensitivity.

maddyone Tue 18-Apr-23 20:36:57

Both mine were very old. It was very sad and I miss them.

Nothing is truly deleted on the internet

I don't think it's being suggested that Fleurpepper is up to no good with her questions but that we need to be mindful of what information we put out on social media. There are people out there who will collate our information and use it fraudulently.

welbeck Tue 18-Apr-23 21:16:35

yes. just because individuals on here cannot imagine how content might be misused, not would want to misuse it themselves, does not mean everything is hunky-dory.
anyone can read these postings.
not just members, not just regular or rare posters.
anyone. for any reason.
i have tried to point this out recently with some discussions around children. and bathrooms.
please be careful. all sorts of people out there.
i think MN is much more aware of these issues.

🤔

Kate1949 Tue 18-Apr-23 21:29:54

I was 23 when my mum died aged 58. My sister was only 14 at the time. My father died at 69.

dragonfly46 Tue 18-Apr-23 22:39:08

Posters give far more info away when they mention it is DD’s 40th birthday today for example. There you have the day, month and year, far more information than what age your parents were when they died!
Pictures of children and grandchildren are far more identifiable as are the photos posted from posters windows.

maddyone Tue 18-Apr-23 23:40:01

I don’t think Fleurpepper is up to no good, she’s a regular poster and has no ill intentions whatsoever I’m sure, but we should be mindful of what information we put on any internet forum, not just Gransnet.

My grandmother died age 96, mother age 82 and father 79,

Pooter Wed 19-Apr-23 01:17:26

Both in their early to mid 70s, one 71 and the other 75. Far too young in both instances. They followed sensible, healthy, chronic disease minimising lifestyles that should have seen them living into at least their late 80s, or early 90s.

My family and extended family all seem to die at the same age which is a bit weird. I sure as hell will be nervous when I reach that age (if!). Not that old, either.

yggdrasil Wed 19-Apr-23 08:20:40

dad 34 mum 102

why do you want to know?

Chardy Wed 19-Apr-23 09:11:38

Dad 63
Mum 90
On the subject of personal information, I was once asked my mother's maiden name as ID, which I gave.
'No I'm sorry it isn't'
'I promise you it is'
Fortunately my mother's not particularly common maiden name was one letter different from my childhood neighbour. So we tried that. Bingo!

PS Fleur in the light of pension controversy, I'm fascinated by the longevity of my parents' generation. And of the year of birth thread.

Shel69 Wed 19-Apr-23 09:44:39

It's sad when these days you have to worry about your posts and replies, I once posted asking something pretty general that was taken wrong by a few, I now think twice before posting and replying,

Fair enough gransnet

I don’t think that it is fair enough.
I think that if an opening poster wants a thread deleted, HQ should respect their wishes.
Especially when most of the other posters on the thread don’t approve of it either.

Eshma Wed 19-Apr-23 10:16:18

I run a business and my bank tell me that revealing 4 numbers is far more dangerous than names or places in terms of financial fraud.
Years of birth and death are very common passwords.
I agree with the poster who said the scammers are clever.
Why not just say my parents were in their early 80s.

Eshma Wed 19-Apr-23 10:21:25

Sorry I mean PINs and not really passwords.

Jaberwok Wed 19-Apr-23 12:22:10

My mother was 68,my stepfather 67, my natural father 28.
Maternal grandparents Granny 61 Grandpa 56. Others, research shows 70's. Lost touch with so not 100% sure.

Esmay Wed 19-Apr-23 12:41:19

Fleurpepper is a regular gransnetter so unlikely to be a scammer .

It's an innocent question ,but it's not a good idea to give out information like this .

However , I do think that some of the responses are rude .

And , you could say that all of us are a bit bored or we wouldn't be contributing to gransnet !

HopeGransnet (GNHQ) Wed 19-Apr-23 13:39:44

We will of course remove this thread if requested, but we'd like to ask that some posters reflect on their behaviour here. If they have concerns, we do ask that GNers report in, rather than attack the premise of a thread and by extension the OP.
