I would have loved to visit Canada and Alaska but it is such a long way for us I can’t stand the thought of the long journey now. I would have liked to see bears and wolves in their natural habitat but I guess I will have to cope with koalas and dingos ( not that you see many of those these days, either). We are about to go on a trip up to the Kimberleys which is thousands of kms away and that is just within Australia. Sometimes I wish they could shift the whole continent, we are so far from places!

I’ve been fortunate to travel extensively, often paid for by my job, so now it’ll be the UK or Europe, with no flying involved.

Japan, in cherry blossom time.

Alnwick Gardens in Northumberland has 329 cherry blossom trees that flower for two weeks at the end of April / early May. They are fabulous!

Thank you- that is so good to know. We are planning a visit to Northumberland, where I've never been- so early May next year.

I’m lucky enough to have been to many of the places that people list here but the two I missed out - and almost certainly won’t do now - are Machu Pichu and Petra. I have also recently developed a longing to trek to Everest Base Camp but that will never happen.

I have travelled most of europe, and been out to Thailand, lived in Portugal and syria etc. But I have not managed to visit 2 places I have wanted to since a child. One is Macchu Picu, and the other was Ulan Bator - capitol of outer mongolia . dont I could afford to go to either now, partly the cost of insurance , being older and having health problems. Loved visiting Istanbul, and sort of called at Venice after most holidays going to different places each time., on the boats. Loved travelling around on local buses, meeting many people and travelling on my own. That way you get to meet people and learn stuff. Loved it and plan to keep travelling as long as I can

The Canadian Rockies and the Alaska cruise is booked for late summer. The Galapagos trip booked for early winter. My treat for my 80th. Still some places on my wish list plus visiting my GD and family in Australia. Japan to see gardens.. I would like to see European countries in the summer rather than in the snow. Any one want to buy some skis and boots? I don't think I will be using them again, unfortunately

Oohhh- dream tours. Absolutely lovely and have a wonderful time. Japan is lovely, very safe and some stunning scenery though the cities are a bit crammed in.

I would love to see the Taj Mahal

The Taj is indeed wonderful and I paid 3 separate visits to it while I was in Agra. The great thing was to find that most of the tourists were Indian. They make a day of it and bring a picknic with them although there are places inside the very extensive gardens where you can get food and drink.

I would also have seen the other "Stans" although I have been to Afghanistan.

I would love to go back to the Lebanon of my memory, I lived there as a child in the 60s and remember as a beautiful and happy place ……. but sadly it is now a broken and dangerous place.

I would love to visit New Zealand and Canada. And St Petersburg- I was supposed to be visiting St Petersburg in August this year but that has had to be changed. Maybe another time.

Argentina, and especially Buenos Aires, is definitely on my bucket list. A diversion to Patagonia while I'm over there is a must of course.

I have always been fascinated by Russia and its history and I visited the country some years ago-the usual Moscow and St Petersburg and some trips outside the cities. I would love to visit further, Lake Baikal, Siberia and even the trans Siberian express! I am unlikely to now, I realise, due to the terrible war. I would love to visit Iceland and the Scandinavian countries. Cuba too! I’m hoping I will someday.

Australia, New Zealand, Finland.

I also would love to do a European river cruise. I’m very blessed as I’ve visited many countries but if you have never experienced Greek hospitality and food you really must see Crete.

hollysteers Mon 08-May-23 17:45:04

St.Petersburg and the Hermitage as never been to Russia, but not at the mo…
I do find sightseeing tiring, bad back, always have and have just returned from Budapest, had to keep sitting down.
Modestly, would like to go to Sligo, as my mother’s side came from there.

Gundy one of my most memorable trips was to the USA with late DH. New York, then stayed with Americans friends in South Carolina. Such warm hospitality!

Forgot to add photo; this was the first cruise ship last week, taken from my front window.

It is heartening to hear so many of you would like to visit Canada, especially the west coast. It is beautiful here, which I never take for granted. We are one of the stops for Alaskan cruises (depending on the cruise).

And Gundy, the US is on my list. I would love to do a RV trip down the west coast, stop to see redwood forests, San Fransisco, then loop inland to see the Grand Canyon. I would also love to see the Appalachian mountains, and mid-east coast. Yours is such a large country with lots to see. Yes sadly, the political climate there does affect the desire to travel.

The Uk is on my list, and would love to see New Zealand, but so far to go!

Bermuda and Hawaii

I’ll send some pics of Hawaii, going in September. 😍

Really want to do a river cruise. Going to check out the Budapest to Amsterdam mentioned by Nanna8. Top of my list was Iceland, so went there, amazing.

I would love to have visited Slovenia. But no regrets with 60+ years of stunning travel. Highlights: Alaska and Namibia. Loved Canada, US National Parks, Turkey (Cappodocia). Long-time favourites - Hebridean islands, Italy, France. Right now DH and I hanker after our special Alpes Maritimes region of France - sea, mountains and cultural heritage following in the footsteps of Picasso, Chagall, Cocteau, Matisse. Four years since our last visit. DDs tell us to "just do it" but the pandemic years dented our confidence and we too readily adopted the mantle of "elderly vulnerable". But maybe...

I would love to visit Bhutan and Tibet and Mongolia and New Zealand. I will get there one day but not just yet.

BeneathTheHowlingStars Mon 08-May-23 15:22:46

I have always wanted to visit Finland. The place absolutely fascinates me.

grandtanteJE65 Mon 08-May-23 15:18:57

I have always wanted to go to India for three months or so, although I do realise that it is impossible to see much of India in that time. Still hope we might get there.

Israel again and back to Spain and Portugal for more than one holiday.

Costa Rica….flora and fauna. No army.
