It was a Coronation for 2023, not 1953. It heralded the start of a new progressive, forward thinking approach to our monarchy, and I thought the balance between tradition, pomp and modernity was well thought out

None of the Europian monarchies have a coronation any longer - just an oath taking to uphold the constitution before their version of parliament without all the mysticism and religious kitsch.

So as part of this "new progressive, forward thinking approach" (sic) is Charles and his clan going to put their hands in their pockets and pay for any of this jamboree? The PM should send him the bill when all the costs are in. Including the cost of the (heavy handed) policing.

I didn’t realise the lady in red, white and blue was Therese Coffey. I thought it was probably one of the many volunteers who had been invited, who didn’t have much money for an outfit. Oh dear.

I've already said W&K over dressed and didn't like it. Like the best man and chief bridesmaid at a wedding . Maybe that's why they were late.

Most of the women look lovely but I thought Katy Perry's outfit was rather odd, as if it was made for someone else. You can see where the hem was turned up too.

I thought Penny Mordaunt was just right.

Penny Mordaunt did look just perfect for her role - she wouldn't have looked right in the usual suit of black with gold regalia of Lord President of the Privy Council.
The sword weighs 8lbs, 3.6 kg so quite a weight to carry for all that time and to walk with it at the head of the procession.

Oh, DH obviously missed that because he commented that he didn't think she used one. It must have been very discreet hidden.
They are used for ceremonial standard bearers.

I saw her sort of struggle a bit to remove it and thought it might have got tangled in her hair at the back. But not a hair out of place! Very clever.
