Am I the only one out there that actually enjoys housework, get up at around 7.30am, take my dog out, have breakfast and off I go, music on, vacuum in hand I’m a real Freddie Mercury minus the pvc mini skirt, Anyone else love it.

I’d annihilate the person who invented housework ! My best friend moans and moans and moans about housework but does about 3-4 hours a day !! She’s mad …but I love her ! And actually she loves it!!
When she comes to my house she often asks why her house doesn’t look any cleaner than mine….. I keep explaining the equation… but she’s lost!!

red1 Mon 15-May-23 15:10:56

noo, i know someone who cleans her house everyday ,gets up at 5.30am and starts cleaning, she has OCD, enough said.

Whitewavemark2 Mon 15-May-23 15:24:38

When I worked I always had a cleaner, but on retirement I decided that I needed to keep active so decided to take on the housework. That was 17 years ago and the initial novelty was fine but recently the boredom is driving me mad, I go from total inertia to pottering through, but I can see that I will be considering employing a cleaner sooner rather than later.

SueDonim Mon 15-May-23 15:27:19

My cleaner has just been (yes, I know we’re fortunate to be able to employ someone) and my house is sparkling. She’s only young but a far better cleaner than me, even after 50 years of practising. grin

Cleaning is so boring, though a necessary evil, I guess. Some people make it seem so effortless, I have one friend who never seems to actually get down and dirty but her house is immaculate at all times, as is she. They have no clutter at all. Even their wifi router gets put away when they’ve finished whatever they’re doing on the internet! She never judges, though and couldn’t care less what anyone else’s house looks like. ❤️

I don't particularly like cleaning but do enjoy the end result, for instance, I cleaned windows last week and am enjoying looking out through clean, shiny windows now and hopefully for some time longer.
I normally try to do cleaning in stages, today I cleaned upstairs and after a few days will do downstairs. Our home is not very big but I would find doing the whole house all at once a bit too much.
On the subject of cooking, I usually enjoy it and pretty much do everything from scratch, which DH and myself enjoy when it comes to eating.
However. I tend to cook enough for two days at a time, which saves energy and makes life easier for me.

Ktsmum Mon 15-May-23 16:17:11

I hate the cleaning but love the result, I love knowing the house is clean

Maggiemaybe Mon 15-May-23 17:09:40

Absolutely not, and I do the bare minimum. The bathroom gets a good going over once a week, and a daily quick wipe down, the kitchen surfaces cleared and wiped after a meal in just a few minutes and I damp dust every fortnight or so. DH is the hoover meister. As someone rightly said earlier in the thread, if a place is tidy it looks clean, so I do clear the decks before bed, tidying newspapers and clothes away, etc. And dirty dishes always go straight in the dishwasher - out of sight, out of mind.

I was saying to a friend recently about how hard it is to do my target of 8000 steps a day, and she said she does 12000 on a normal day at home doing her housework. I was gobsmacked.

I don't like housework and can think of hundreds of excuses to put off doing it, but enjoy a clean and tidy home. bathrooms are the worst for me.

alisonsmith4 Mon 15-May-23 17:13:25

No! Life’s too short. What is this thing called ironing?

Dull women keep immaculate homes.

And dull women can also live in a tip, or employ cleaners wink

Dianehillbilly1957 Mon 15-May-23 18:56:23

NO. It's a pain in the neck necessity.

Tink75 Mon 15-May-23 19:02:33

When GDD asks why I have fur on my sideboard I know its time to make a start.

CountryMouse22 Mon 15-May-23 19:06:04

No, no and thrice no!

Bullshit 😡

SunnySusie Mon 15-May-23 20:01:00

Absolutely hate all cleaning (and cooking). Boring, repetitive, never ending drudgery.

Millie22 Mon 15-May-23 20:12:41

No and I'd rather be in the garden but I do like a clean and tidy kitchen.

LucyW Mon 15-May-23 21:00:32

I enjoy housework but don't enjoy cooking. My lovely Mum was the same (but she was a good cook and baker). I don't even mind cleaning the lavatories at work! I struggle not to pick things up at my son's too. My house isn't perfect by a long chalk but there is something satisfying about cleaning. I also enjoy spending hours reading a good book so it's not all work!

I don’t have a set regime unlike my DM and DGM who ‘went through the house’ every Wednesday - Monday being washing and ironing day.
What happens here, is that if I find myself in a room, have an hour to spare, I end up giving it a good clean. I like to tidy up before I go to bed, because I hate to come downstairs to a mess. That’s something I got my DDs doing, because they’ve to be up and out first thing.

Bit the same here. What with working, looking after the little ones (DD’s kids) and hobbies, don’t have much time for housework but somehow it gets done.Often late at night!

Yeah, total bullshit.Something that those with dirty untidy homes like to tell themselves I bet.

Juicylucy Mon 15-May-23 22:17:47

Yes I love housework I find it rewarding when I have nice clean fresh smelling house. Tidy house, tidy mind.

silverlining48 Mon 15-May-23 22:58:17

Have never liked housework but now for the first time ever I have a cleaner. It’s wonderful. Was supposed to be temporary just for me to recover from
Surgery but don’t want to lose her so she is staying. Hurrah! Happy days,

I recall, many years ago having a conversation related to me, which was about me. The First Lady remarked to the second that I was extremely houseproud. The second agreed saying that you would never find a speck of dirt on my skirting boards, but that I didn’t turn a hair when she turned up with muddy children and even muddier dog.

I think that it is often assumed that neat freaks spend all their time tidying and cleaning, well I don’t. TBH is much easier to put everything away when it is finished with, rather than be faced with a pile of stuff. Once a house is clean it doesn’t take very long to whisk through with a duster and vacuum. I got into the habit of doing this before going to work, and yes, I did have young children, actually they have grown up to be tidy adults. Children make a mess playing, as they should, but when they were very young it didn’t take long to tidy their toys away when they finished with them and as they got older they knew that they had to tidy them away themselves. My husband is also a very tidy person, so it worked and still does work for us,

I don’t say that I love housework, but I hate an untidy home. I certainly don’t criticise anyone who doesn’t choose to live the way we do, each to his/her own. What suits one family doesn’t suit another. I wanted to spend time on hobbies, not unnecessary cleaning and tidying. I do resent the implication that those who think that this makes me, and many others like me, boring!

😂
When I’m having the occasional major blitz, I have to make sure I have my reading glasses on, so I can see the dust and cobwebs.
I do always feel bad about discombobulating any spiders, though - we need them to devour the bastard little carpet moths - which we still have despite so many different treatments.

Indeed. I hate dirt and dog hair all round the house. I'm decidedly not boring because I value cleanliness and a tidy home.

shysal Tue 16-May-23 08:57:48

This is my motto. I hate housework.
