Oh Neine that sounds incredibly painful and I hope you have no further damage from it.

I’m feeling reassured after having a long chat with DD2 this morning, she sounds a lot better in herself and has to stay off work for another week which will give her time to recuperate.

SueD “here” is in Portugal, in the inland Algarve region. It’s lovely weather for anyone one on holiday but a bit too hot for me at the moment.

I’ve been dyeing some cotton trousers today. I have two identical pairs bought from Marks years ago. DH keeps saying just buy some new ones but doesn’t realise how difficult it is to get the fit and fabric right now. The dye seems to have been successful so I hope cleaning the washing machine works out as well.

We’re having a fish barbecue here tonight courtesy of DD1 and her husband.

Back from Buxton after a LOVELY day and afternoon at the opera. We saw La Somnambula and it was stunning - especially the Chinese soprano who sang Amina. There was a highly amusing twist at the end which I am sure would never have occurred to Bellini but made us all laugh heartily. The arrogant male lead (with a voice to die for), basically got his come uppance as the two female love rivals chose to exit together arm in arm!
Catching up on the mens tennis final now - love to all especially those in distress or pain

Good evening, Soop and lovely Kitchen people! Im just popping in to wish you all a peaceful Sunday night. I'm on the sofa ready for new season of World on Fire.
DS1 and family are on their way home from sunny (40deg) Cyprus, so this is Granddog's last night here. I'll miss him. 🐕

Hello everyone. A focused drop in from me. Feel very selfish not to comment on all your posts. Be sure I do think about you but just don’t have the head space to keep up

Mr C has a new appointment - 27th July. Although it couldn’t be a worse time for the family we’ll not refuse while not really believing it, this is the fourth date. If it goes ahead our family won’t be around to support me practically, no matter, what’s important is Mr C gets his surgery.

Still no answers for our daughter in law in law who is the kindest most thoughtful person I know. We’re both more than worried about her situation. Mr C said he’d willingly give up his slot for her. Totally understand the desire.

Thank you all for your kind words. Please keep hoping for us.

Thinking of you all.

Grannmarie Sun 16-Jul-23 22:25:57

Cornergran, I'm hoping and praying for the best possible outcomes for both MrC and your DDiL. 💕🙏

brook2704 Sun 16-Jul-23 22:42:54

Cornergran hoping there’s a date for your DiL soon and sending you and MrC much ❤️and support x

Happy anniversary, Scapa - lovely photo. 🩷

Annsixty you sound so worn down at the moment. I’m very sad for you. flowers

Glad your back is better, Foxy!

Nannytopsy one of dd1’s friends is a Bat Person - she does bat surveys on houses etc. 🦇

Neine that sounds horrific! I’m not sure I could even have managed that. Ca canny, as they say in Scotland. flowers

That sounds a lovely place to be, Dusty. The only bit of Portugal I’ve been to is Madeira! The current high temperatures in Europe don’t appeal to me at all. I’m only comfortable between the old school temperatures of 68-72F. 😂

Thinking of you, Cornergran and hoping everything works out in the end. It seems so daunting, I imagine, to cope with it all.

I hear you re the rain Brook! We had a torrential downpour just before the fete on Saturday but it had gone off by the time we’d parked so we ambled around, meeting up with dd and family and then ending up back at theirs for a bit.

Today I met a friend for coffee and a catch up - we both had plenty to say. Then at home I did a few bits and pieces round the house, setting up some new bedside tables and replacing lampshades. I also deflated an airbed - a built in electric pump is the best thing since sliced bread - and put it away.

Sending love to Urms and Soop and TOYA. Xxx

Cornergran you are having such a lot to contend with. I hope things work out for Mr C and your dil very soon. I've retreated to my apartment as I have a headache. I sat out at the pool for three hours and have had to wave a white flag. It's both extremely hot and still and humid. My northern blood can't take it for long! The marina tonight after a disappointing steak at a renowned restaurant last night. The family are turning into water babies. I resemble a sloth. Have a good day kitcheners

brook2704 Mon 17-Jul-23 17:09:37

Lovely to hear from you grandmabatty, hope you’re feeling a bit more rested now and your headache has gone. Enjoy your wander around the marina this evening and hope you find a better restaurant to enjoy dinner
I’ve had a busy morning at the gym and Tesco, I’d planned on gardening this afternoon but we’ve had showers on and off all afternoon so I’ve stayed in and cleaned the bathrooms instead 😇
Going to cook a light pasta dish for dinner later, with a fresh salad and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. I know it’s Monday but I’ve just got no willpower at all!

Jaxjacky Mon 17-Jul-23 17:37:15

I’m not surprised corner only so much to go round 💐
My day on the voluntary phones, so nipping in and out of the garden between hefty showers, then checking for calls, then finding drivers, busy.
Quiz this evening, must focus my brain!
Cheers brook I’ve had no wine since April, what with cholesterol, then blood thinners, I could, but I’m saving it until consultants call end of September.

Susan56 Mon 17-Jul-23 17:42:11

I hope and pray Mr C’s operation goes ahead and that your DIL gets a date for her surgery very soon🙏🏻I think about you often.

Grandmabatty, enjoy the marina tonight.I love Benalmadena and the marina especially. The boys would love the butterfly park but it sounds like it’s too hot to do anything but lie by the pool.

I have been out for lunch with a friend. We met at midday and I have just got in.I am all talked out.

soop, sending you much love and hope you feel more yourself soon. You are so supportive to everyone in the kitchen. The support you and the ladies in the kitchen gave me when Henry was so unwell literally kept me going.I hope you can feel the love and support from us all winging it’s way to you.

Hello everyone. I’ve had a lazy day today apart from the weekly trip to Waitrose. OH enjoyed croquet this afternoon with the U3A. Left over chicken casserole for dinner followed by left over chocolate and raspberry pudding.
I’m thinking of Soop and hoping she’ll be back in the kitchen soon. Also Urms and others with difficulties.

Foxygloves Mon 17-Jul-23 21:38:36

The threatened rain and thunder failed to materialise today so I have had a successful day with the washing machine and dashing away with the smooth iron.
I am with birds, like other (some) people are with spiders. I can look at them, admire their plumage but let one fly anywhere near me and I am petrified. I blame Hithcock’s The Birds for my over reaction.
Tonight a little brown birdie flew into the kitchen through the open patio doors 😱😱😱
I hastily shut the door to the hall and when it moved on to the utility room - instead of flying out again, I shut that door too
-then I panicked! My neighbour and her husband are forever having to bail me out with unwelcome small creatures so he came round and tried to coax it out of its hiding place behind all the storage canisters lined up along the window sill and - eventually- out of the open door.
The utility room has in the past been referred to as the sh*t pit and I was acutely conscious of my untidy stash of storage canisters, packets of cereal, dog biscuits etc etc 😱😱
Excitement over, my back door is now firmly shut.
Kind wishes to all who are low, in pain or worried -TOYA

Nannytopsy Tue 18-Jul-23 00:02:40

We meant to finish cleaning the patio today but dithered as rain was forecast. Eventually cleared up and got out the Karcher and … it started to rain 🙃.
Tomorrow maybe? I have such a mountain of ironing to do. Not enough hours in the day!

Greetings to you lovely lot.

We are away to attend our friend's funeral. After which, a drive to Oban hospital for Mr Soop's appointment with the haematologist. I've also had a consultation with my friendly GP regarding my bout of depression. Will see him on Wednesday afternoon.

My thanks to those of you who have sent me cards and private messages. Thank you to all our special Kitcheners. X

Blossoming Tue 18-Jul-23 11:29:19

Hello lovely Kitcheners. I’m finding it tough going at the moment, but it will pass. I find it hard to post as my mind has too many negative thoughts.

Soop hope today goes as well as can be expected flowers

Grannmarie Tue 18-Jul-23 11:47:01

Good morning, Soop and lovely Kitchen people.
Good to hear from you, dear Soop, on such a sad day. Thinking of you both as you remember your dear friend. Hope Mr Soop 's appointment goes well, and you get good support from your GP, glad to hear that you have a FTF appointment. 💕🙏

I'm having a very lazy morning, unusually for me, I'm normally up and out with Granddog and then up to morning Mass,
but today I'm still in my goonie!
Granddog was reunited with his family last night, they are looking well and refreshed after their holiday. DGS1 was particularly glad to see his boy again.

Foxygloves, my neighbour found a squirrel in her bathroom yesterday ' open windae, that's handy'. We live on the edge of woodland, have to be careful with doors and windows.

Grandmabatty, well done for managing 3 hours by the pool. You're wise to alternate with cool/ shady time, we Scottish grans are not used to that kind of sunshine. ☀

TOYA, wishing you all the best Tuesday possible.

All packed waiting to be picked up from our “upmarket!” hotel in Puerto de la Cruz in Tenerife. Here for our Golden wedding anniversary. It has been lovely, hot but bearable. Not looking forward to the rain and grey awaiting in Scotland though.

brook2704 Tue 18-Jul-23 13:46:25

Ladyleftfieldlover Tue 18-Jul-23 15:00:53

Soop, it is SO good to see you back in the kitchen. How could it be the same without you? I pray that your forthcoming appointments are helpful.
Our cleaner is off sick so I cleaned and polished the whole house today and now, as we speak, OH is hoovering. Have a good evening everyone. I think the weather is looking brighter.🌹🌞

Jaxjacky Tue 18-Jul-23 15:11:50

I hope your GP provides some appropriate help and reassurance soop.
Blossoming you’re having a tough time, as you say, it will pass, but we’re allowed these times 💐.
Safe journey back Scapal.
I’ve just been for a walk and it’s quite pleasant, not happy to see the fluttering of cabbage whites amongst the other butterflies and bees. I’ll be checking my sprouts and broccoli plants regularly.
Jobs were done this morning, I’m planning a sort of stir fry for dinner.
Ttfn.

brook2704 Tue 18-Jul-23 16:28:13

I’ve quickly taken all the washing off the line and just dashed in from the garden, it’s been threatening rain all afternoon but up until now it’s stayed dry - not for much longer though as the skies are really grey
I’m really fed up of the weeding, DH usually helps but can’t get down on his hands and knees just yet so it’s only me doing it. I think it’s the cool damp Scottish climate that means there’s a certain type of green creepy type weed - don’t know what it’s called, that never stops growing and springs up everywhere
Grannmarie we too get lots of squirrels but I’ve never found one inside yet - I think I’d jump if I saw one in the bathroom! Hope you’re having a lovely well deserved rest today
Hope your sprouts and broccoli aren’t being nibbled Jax and are growing well
