You have hit the nail on the head Gundy, paper is porous so I will not be buying any confection wrapped thus. Think of the number of people who may touch the product before you buy and eat it and think how many of them may have poor hygiene.

It was waxed paper, I'm sure - perfectly safe and hygienic. We should be minimising the use of plastic packaging everywhere, so, at least, it's a start.

just another excuse to increase the price and reduce the size have you seen the size they are at the moment almost half the size they were when i was younger

I doesn’t seem that long since they changed to plastic so glad they’re going back to paper.

Maybe the paper is like grease proof, so not as porous. They are boxed and usually wrapped in cling film when stored and transported. Vermin hopefully should be controlled around food products. Some paper products are made from compostable material. There is a film used on a vegan chocolate that can go in with the peelings. It’s all science.
