I saw these Scottish emojis on Facebook. I thought they were very accurate.

I like ‘rammy’ , which I think is just Scottish, to mean an uproar, and I use it quite often.
My two English grandsons laugh at my speech often, and like to imitate me. I hadn’t realised I used ‘wee’ quite so much.
My Dad was from Fife and my Mum from Perthshire so I know most of the words on this thread but only use a few now.

A favourite saying of my mother's, when talking about a troublesome neighbour, was: She would cause a rammy in an empty hoose!.

It is amazing what so many of us have dredged up and I have not set foot in Scotland since 1979 and never will again. I lived there from birth to early 20's.

Aveline Tue 20-Jun-23 16:35:42

Do other parts of the UK have such varied vocabularies? It can't be just us.

grannyqueenie Tue 20-Jun-23 16:54:08

You’re right Charleygirl it is amazing, I left Glasgow in 1969 yet all these words and phrases, many of which I’ve not used or heard in years, are all tucked away in the back of my mind. Just don’t expect me to remember what I did yesterday or what I’m supposed to be doing tomorrow!!
