My very first thread on gn was ages ago and...

I thought it might be fun to revisit it.

My least favourite sister in law (now ex!) was about to visit and I was musing about my need to do things properly.

I am quite a confident person so I was bewildered why I should be so worried about the impression I made.

I was roundly told off by Greatnan for being bothered and bringing such irrelevance to the forum.

There are still some people who make me feel the same. Are there people in your life who have that effect?

merlotgran , WhenIm64 was a different poster. I joined 10 years ago just after my 64th birthday. I couldn’t quite believe I’d hit 64, could hear the Beatles singing and decided on iam64. I’ve considered changing it as I’ve got (fortunately) even older but decided to stay with it

Thanks Iam. When disappeared quite suddenly shortly after Greatnan died (they were friends in RL) so I wondered if she had changed her username. Now I can stop wondering. 😂

What I find amazing about this kind of thread (reminiscing) is how much detail people seem to remember. I don't remember who I've discussed what with on the whole. I'm glad about that because it means what is discussed is depersonalised and one can concentrate on the ideas/subjects rather than who is saying what.

Over the years I have met and got to know a few gransnetters personally. I can't remember meeting anyone unpleasant in all the meetups I've been to.

Marydoll Sat 24-Jun-23 10:52:50

Baggs, perhaps we are all on our best behaviour at the meetups. wink.

It has always been a pleasure to meet you.

I agree, baggs. Apart from one poster who seems to have it in for me (but has been missing for a while) I forget who I have disagreed with and each conversation is new.

Not being a joiner of anything, I surprised myself by plucking up courage to post on GN. I discovered it by accident when I spotted a thread about long distance grand parenting which struck a chord with me since my only granddaughter lived in the US (and still does).

It was during the time Greatnan had gone missing but I had such kind and supportive comments which really helped me.

Over a short space of time I suffered several bereavements including DH, two of his sisters, my own sister and two very close friends. I had the most incredible support and also met up with several GNs as well as receiving countless kind private messages.

I have never been unfortunate enough to have any negative experiences on here but I don’t participate in controversial threads and don’t start my own.

As to those of you asking after Galen, she and I had a wonderful cruise to the eastern Med last September(see photo). She does have limited mobility but is otherwise fine. I believe she posts in soop’s kitchen from time to time.

I don’t post much any more although I try to catch up when I can. I am deeply sorry to hear of Urms and Kalu having such difficult times with their DH’s. My heart goes out to them and to all of you beset with illness or unhappiness.

Thank you to all of you who have been so kind to me whether it be in RL or online. You are all special people.

Lovely to see you Bella

Bellasnana Sat 24-Jun-23 18:20:07

Thank you Kitty and apologies for not answering your original question.🙈

cornergran Sat 24-Jun-23 18:48:22

Good to see you, and Galen bella. I’ve been wondering about you both.

kittylester Sat 24-Jun-23 19:07:11

This thread has wandered all over the place and been all the better for that!

dustyangel Sat 24-Jun-23 19:18:24

👋 to Bellasnana and Galen It’s nice to see a photo of you both again.

Exactly so kittylester. It’s a curiosity to make friends on a forum but it’s clear that does happen.
Lovely photograph of you Bella and Galen

Marydoll Sat 24-Jun-23 20:23:30

Lovely photo and good to see you posting, Bella.

Marydoll Sat 24-Jun-23 20:45:04

I have heard from Chewy, she is well and sends her regards.
Unfortunately, she rarely looks at GN, but various reasons.

Bellanonna Sat 24-Jun-23 20:51:30

Thanks for that update MD. Please send my best to Chewy when you’re next in touch.

I'm so glad to hear that, I was about to paddle across the Bristol Channel in my coracle to make sure Galen was ok

You both look lovely in that photo 🙂

Charleygirl5 Sat 24-Jun-23 21:40:11

What a lovely relaxed photo of the pair of you Bella. Pleased to hear you are both well.

This is the second thread, the last one being Scottish Grans Non-Political, we have covered a fair area, no daggers drawn and not a cross word has been said. It is possible!

merlotgran Sat 24-Jun-23 22:13:53

Lovely photo, Bellasnana. I see Galen is wearing her famous pearls! 🥳

Anniebach Sun 25-Jun-23 12:28:31

I don’t know when I first posted here, Greatnan was here. I so remember 1st November 2017 , I received an early morning telephone call, my beloved Catherine was dead, I was alone, no one to call on, sitting alone with much grief, I posted here, received so much care, I was supported through funeral arrangements, inquest and the dark days which followed, fellow posters saved my life. Thank you.

Anniebach Sun 25-Jun-23 12:30:02

Sorry, forgot to say -I miss Chewy

Callistemon21 Sun 25-Jun-23 12:31:27

I'm glad we were able to support you, even if in a small way, during that terrible time, Anniebach

Iam64 Sun 25-Jun-23 13:33:52

Anniebach , we all remember that time, huge grief and your daughter died much too young. Gransnet can be a source of loving support in the most difficult times of our lives
That’s much more significant than the occasional negatives

You look as kind as your posts Bella and so young!

Bellasnana Sun 25-Jun-23 17:56:27

Kate1949 thank you so much! What a lovely thing to say. I’ve a birthday coming up and am not feeling very young so you have cheered me up! There are so many kind people on GN, it’s heartwarming.💕
