Good morning from Kirkwall. It is grey and chilly. The forecast is for vile cold weather, not reaching teens.
We had the great good fortune yesterday to have the last available car in Orkney due to a cancellation!
Skara brae was amazing, we spent most of the day there, then followed the coast northwards back towards Kirkwall, stopping to see various things including the brough of Birsay.
What a beautiful and fascinating country.
Today, more of the same, not decided yet.
BTW room still rubbish 🙁, hotel leaving a lot to be desired, but very very busy… not that important as we are out most of the time.
Peaceful Sunday to all, especially Urms, kalu, and Marydoll. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩

Good morning from a bright Whiddon Down.

I hope you will enjoy your break, grandMattie, now you've settled in. It was kind of you to think of olddudders in relation to the riots in France but his area seems unaffected by them. Yesterday, he was in the centre of Le Mans and all seemed as normal, I’m relieved to say.

Today, I shall return home as I have commitments throughout the day tomorrow at the start of another busy week.

Every blessing to you all. 🦩🥰✝️💐🦩

Good morning, a lovely sunny Sunday morning here in south Glos.
How wonderful to be in the Orkneys grandMattie, a really remote but spectacular part of the country.
Yesterday I had a lovely early dog walk then spent some time having a good tidy up before watching the Tour de France (why was it in Spain Mick?!) while knitting. I started this drafted jumper for me during lockdown, shoved it in the back of a cupboard and rediscovered it on Friday. I’m determined to finish it but it’s going to take me ages ; at least I can do it largely without thinking while listening to podcasts or watching tv!
Today, a walk with the dog then I need to sort out my watercolour palette, do a bit of gardening and try to find a book I have mislaid.
Enjoy Sunday! 🌹

Good morning from a sunny but cooler South Downs.

Bathing the dog today and trying to strip him a bit with a special tool as his clipper lady is booked until end July and he is looking a mess. Not that he is worried.

Cleaning fridge and oven as well as watering pots so must get on this morning, after my totally lazy day yesterday.

Hope everyone enjoys their day

Marinated salmon with salsa for lunch

Gingster Sun 02-Jul-23 06:54:23

Good morning all and it’s sunny but feels cooler here on the Suffolk coast.
We had a lazy but lovely day with ds2 and family. They didn’t swim as the wind got up and the sea was choppy. They might venture in today. We walked up to the house where they cook wood fired pizzas last evening and sat out on the patio overlooking the sea. The girls played on the beach while we had a glass or two.

They’ll head home mid afternoon and I’ll miss them as they are good company and easy to be with. No stresses or strains with them. ❤️.

Hoping you all have a good Sunday. 🌸

NotAGran55 Sun 02-Jul-23 06:55:03

Good morning from sunny West Berkshire. No plans yet for the day but no doubt it will include lunch out somewhere and a walk.
Mick if I were you I would contact the GP tomorrow just for a chat to discuss how your recovery is going.
By the way, we were diverted through Brackley a couple of weeks ago when the A43 was closed due to an incident. What a lovely place it is . The next time I’m on that route I will stop for a break there and have a proper look around.

Happy Sunday and thoughts to the sad and poorly.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 02-Jul-23 06:58:57

Morning all from North Wales. It feels bright. We have booked lunch nearby and will then go to the beach. I am not writing any grim poems this morning! Thinking of Mick and the Urms.

Good morning from sunny Colchester. Temperature reaching about 20° today, which is fine by me. DGS2 wore us out yesterday. He is 7 and won't sit still. He is currently still asleep but will soon need feeding. More of the same today.
Love to all 🦩 x

Good morning everyone from sunny Lancashire.

I hope your bowel settles soon Mick, do you have post op support that you can speak to about this? Rest and enjoy the cycling today.

Yesterday was sunshine and strong winds. I was able to deal with one lot of laundry and will do the rest today. I made a slow cooker chicken curry, we haven’t had one in a while thanks to my own digestive problems. It was delicious and so far my stomach is happy. Today we will have bacon rolls for brunch, then I will see how it goes.

Glad you’re enjoying Orkney despite gloomy weather and a poor hotel Grandmattie. Hope today is brighter for LadyLFL in Wales.

Thinking of Kalu, Urms and all who are dealing with illness right now.

Have a good day all 🌻🌻🌻

Jaxjacky Sun 02-Jul-23 07:12:32

Morning, jumpers on here in S Hants at 13.
Sounds idyllic Gingster.
Orkney must be fascinating gMattie shame about the hotel.
Funny weather yesterday, started grey and cool, ended sunny and warm. We went to the pub and sat out chatting for an hour or so.
Seed sowing today, wrapping of daughters birthday present and beef for tea.
Urms Kalu and any others fighting battles 💐

Ps. Maes Howe is booked up until the end of September…
The tombs of both otters and eagles are permanently closed. We happenchanced on a little passage tomb said to be tomb of dogs!

ginny Sun 02-Jul-23 07:29:56

Good morning. Not sure what the weather will do today but no matter.
We may have a short drive up to Teignmouth for a wander and light lunch.
Wishing all a pleasant day .

karmalady Sun 02-Jul-23 07:34:06

Mick, maybe no-one has told you that plain boiled white rice will help your bowel to settle down

Good morning, the ground is damp and sky is grey but today will be pleasant in s somerset

I think I have dug and cleaned up my last patch of earth, another two buckets of stones removed. No earthworms so I have sown phycelia, an easy green manure, I chop and turn that over. Then add a layer of my compost and cover it for winter. It will be teaming with life by spring. The patch will be a small veg bed and ready for potatoes first

I pruned my three apple trees, mainly so I could get to the tops. Pruning now slows leaf/branch growing and puts energy into the apples.

Sitting on my bench, I saw my rapidly growing crabapple, swaying heavily in the wind. It is 20` tall so I have taken the saw to it and removed half the vertical branches. They were very heavy and would have put the tree in danger.

I took all the lower shoots off that and the two thin baby rowans, when I planted them, so I eventually get a shade canopy to sit under

Exercise later, apricot and almond loaf in the breadmaker and knitting outside this afternoon

Have a lovely day

Grandmabatty Sun 02-Jul-23 07:50:37

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and sunny at the moment. It feels fresh.
Mick definitely seek medical advice. GrandMattie that's a pity Mae's Howe is booked.
Yesterday I got lots of washing done but had to put it on the clothes horse as we had frequent showers. I visited mum at night but she wasn't up for conversation. She's waiting for a bed in a community hospital close to me which will be handy for visiting.
Today I have the tumble dryer on, drying towels and sheets. I'll hang out stuff from yesterday. Another quiet day ahead. I'll roast a chicken for dinner. Have a good day all

Sar53 Sun 02-Jul-23 07:51:46

Good morning from a bright Essex by the sea.
A lovely meal on Friday night and a fairly easy journey home yesterday morning.
I will go and collect DH and his friend once they arrive back later this morning.
Yesterday my 11 year old granddaughter had a cake sale on her drive. She and my daughter made all the cakes. She raised at least £110.00 for Save the Children. All her own idea and I am very proud of her thoughtfulness.
I must get dressed and go out for a paper before putting the washing machine.
Have a lovey day everyone xxx

GrannyGravy13 Sun 02-Jul-23 07:54:58

Morning Mick and all

Blue sky and sunny here in S E Essex, a lazy day ahead, no place apart from roast beef for dinner this evening this evening.

Wishing you all a peaceful Sunday 🙋‍♀️🦩

kittylester Sun 02-Jul-23 08:05:07

Good morning all from a sunny ish North Leicestershire.

We are taking one of my brothers and his wife out for lunch today. His health has meant he is unable to drive and their world has become very small. They are hard work though.

Have the best day possible everyone.

NannyJan53 Sun 02-Jul-23 08:07:41

Good morning from a bright and sunny Black Country.

Pleasant walk yesterday from Himley Country Park to Baggeridge, with a coffee and chat at the cafe there.

It is DIL's birthday today, the last year of her 40's! So I am going over with cards etc as their girls have birthdays this month. Eldest will be 19, younger 14. Will join them for a meal out early evening.

Will try to go to the gym this morning, as not been since our holiday, seems hard to get started again.

Enjoy your day everyone

Taichinan Sun 02-Jul-23 08:12:15

Good morning Mick and all from another windy day on the Angus coast. My least favourite weather, but at least it's coming with sunshine and not rain!
Karma you are amazing and I'm exhausted and fascinated in equal measure by your posts.
Yesterday was a non-day for me - I just couldn't settle down to anything. I achieved some watered houseplants and bought and posted a couple of cards, but that was about it. I must try to make today a bit more productive.
The wind is a permanent feature of Orkney grandmattie, but with such fascinating archaeology as compensation. You seem to be making the most of that, and so good that you got that hire car.
Have a happy Sunday everyone x

Another sunny start to the day in north Suffolk…..good morning all.

Glad that you had a great first day of your Orkney holiday GM. I first visited Skara Brae in the early 1970s when the site was just as it was when discovered. You could just wander around it at will. So very different from how it is now but I think the timeline, visitors’ centre etc have been done very well.

DS and DGS are calling in sometime this afternoon after a visit nearby to collect yet another piece of equipment to clutter up their garage( my opinion not his)bought on eBay. Luckily DDiL is a very tolerant person. She will enjoy a peaceful few hours at home with their puppy and younger DGD whilst elder DGD is at her weekend restaurant job.

Thinking as ever of those in pain and distress.

brook2704 Sun 02-Jul-23 08:16:46

Good morning everyone from Inverness where its a mix of blue and grey cloud and looks windy
Sounds like you had another gardening day karma and got lots done
A quick trip out to DD2s this morning to check on their cat, they’ll be home later today after a couple of nights away. We’ve got the DGC here for a sleepover tonight so looking forward to the noise and chaos!
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles especially urms and kalu, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Taichinan Sun 02-Jul-23 08:19:26

Well done to your DGD Sar - a lovely thing for her to do.
And well done to Olddudders too for keeping away from all the troubles in France. You'll be glad when you have him back with you Ash.

Greyduster Sun 02-Jul-23 08:27:41

Good morning, Michael and all GNs. It has been raining overnight in South Yorkshire Not sure how much but anything is welcome, it’s been so dry. I hope it dries up enough to go for a drive and a walk in the Peak District today. It would have been - it is - our 57th wedding anniversary and I have a yen to revisit an old haunt and stare at the view. DD is running the Ashbourne half marathon today so I’m glad it’s not blazing hot. Cool will be welcome I’m sure.
Have the best day you can, folks.

Grammaretto Sun 02-Jul-23 08:31:17

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Bright and Blowy here
A busy Sunday ahead with family and friends. DBiL is coming for lunch. It's the first time I'll have seen him since his DM funeral.

I'm glad you enjoyed Scara Brae and the Brough of Birsay gMattie . Orkney is a land of magic and wonder but the only hotel I ever left a mediocre review for was near Kirkwall.
I moved out and went to the backpackers in Stromness which was preferable!.
DH ancestors are buried at Stenness.

I too hope your health problems subside Mick soon.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of Sunday whatever you get up to
