I’ve looked out my Barbie doll who’s been in my possession since around 1963. My cousin was on a family visit from Canada and gave me her Barbie and a few outfits. She’s in remarkably good condition for a 60 year old.

She looks great Grannynannywanny. I didn't know that Barbie ever had dark hair, always thought she was a blonde.

In the 60s there were also redheads Smileless2012

That's two things I've learned today smile. I never had a Barbie, I had Sindy and Patch so maybe that's why I didn't know.

Surprised mum didn't buy me a Barbie with red hair, being a redhead herself.

I had a Sindy doll too Smileless I thought she was so pretty ... even with her staticky acrylic hair! My junior school friend had a Tressy doll. With a button to turn in her back if I remember correctly - to alter the length of her hair! I didn’t like her doll as much as mine. She had a somewhat thin face, whereas Sindy had plumper cheeks and looked wholesome!

Hang on to her - the new movie is due to be released and she could be worth a fortune. She looks as if she's off to the film premiere!

We have Sindys.

A friend of mine had a Tressy doll Urmstongran and I agree, not as nice as our Sindy dolls.

I had Tressy and Patch. For some reason I cut all Tressy's long blonde hair off.

No Barbies for me - but a cute celluloid one 😘

It’s gorgeous and has lovely outfits you can buy original Sindy dolls online. They are expensive especially if in original box. I always wanted a Tressy doll (her hair grows) but never got one.

I had Sindy, still remember here red stripe top and blue trousers that she came in
Her clothes thereafter, were all made by my gran.

How I wish I still had her, you were very canny OP

My daughter had Barbie's , she still has a Spice girl Barbie in the original box that she keeps in our attic.

Does anyone remember Tressy ?
She had long hair until you pulled her tummy button.

If any of your girls want a date with a trunkful of Action Men let me know!😂

I had a Tressy, a Barbie and a Sindy. I also had a Ken. Still got them. They were given to me for birthdays and Christmas by a family friend. My son used to play with them but they were usually being blown up by action man.

I loved my Sindy doll.

I had a Barbie, my sister a Tressy, I confess I cut her doll’s hair off because she kept taunting me with its mechanism.

My auntie loved in the USA and visited us in the mid 60s....she brought me a Barbie, Ken and Skipper doll. They had beautiful clothes. I gave them to my neice overseas and she has passed them down to her family.

Grannynannywanny
Your Barbie looks immaculate.

Unfortunately the Sindys who live here have been subjected to many hairdressing sessions over their 40 or so years and look as if they've been pulled through a hedge backwards.
Has anyone got any hair rescue tips, please?

I never had a Barbie or a Tressy but I did have a "good looking Ken" who was (I believe) Barbie's boyfriend.

When I was a kid I played with small dolls and loved making elaborate costumes for them. I had a bigger one until I was about 12. Since then I have always found it a bit creepy to go past an antique doll booth at an antiques fair. Their eyes seem to follow you around the room.

I sell on a US based antiques/vintage site and they have a big event on Barbie right now. The Americans seem to be very enthusiastic over dolls of all kinds. I have a few doll related things in my stock which came in mixed auction lots but I dont specialise in them. Not my scene.

That might be because of the Barbie film due out this month.
Thank goodness my DGD are too old to want to go (I hope) 🤞 although I do know that adults collect Barbies and Sindys.

My childhood friend had a doll with a key to make her hair grow. Was it Tressy? One day when her hair was fully extended her little brother decided she needed a haircut and chopped it off 🤣

Callistemon21 Mon 10-Jul-23 23:03:28

I remember my brothers finding Dad's razor and playing barbers with their teddies.

NotSpaghetti Mon 10-Jul-23 23:58:08

I liked my Tressy better than Sindy or Barbie.
The hair "gtowing" was just wonderful

I had dozens of outfits for her. My mother used all the offcuts from fabrics she used for me and anything else shd came across - she even made fancy leather boots, hats and mittens trimmed with "fur" and a "suede" skirt suit made of chamois.
Everything was perfectly finished too. Some still exist. As does the doll. All quite the worse for wear I'm afraid.

I had a Sindy, too. I loved her little shoes.

Wow, wish I was looking that good after all this time.
