And it’s been raining virtually all day - I’m back in winter woollies, cosy new Lazybones trousers on for the first time.

Given the weather in southern Europe I’m not really complaining, but it’d be nice to have a little bit of summer back soon….

Sara1954 Fri 14-Jul-23 20:39:21

I’ve been lighting the wood burner for over a week now, refuse to be cold.
But today was horrendous, rain all day, sky is still grey and overcast.
But I agree with all of you who have said this is preferable to temperatures of 40 degrees plus.

SueDonim Fri 14-Jul-23 20:45:37

It began raining here about an hour ago. It’s not cold, though, still 23deg in the house. It’s windy which is annoying as some plants in pots keep blowing over.

Urmstongran Fri 14-Jul-23 20:46:27

I’ve got my winter pj’s on and just had a mug of Horlicks. I feel summer is passing us by. Won’t be long now before we will be switching lamps on at 9pm. I feel very sad tonight.

Glad it's not just us crazyH and Norah. Mr. S. thought I was joking until he saw the look on my face.

No, not just you, Smileless2012.

We're happily sitting fireside with cake and hot drinks!smile

My heating is on, it’s rained none stop here and I got soaked twice so felt chilly. It feels very autumnal here today even though we’re only half way through July!!

No, we'll have some lovely weather before long 🌞

Hope it doesn't rain tomorrow - it's St, Swithun's Day!!!

Oh yes!! 😯

Hetty58 Fri 14-Jul-23 22:02:50

I just love it! I can't stand the heat - especially with humidity. Heating? Are you kidding? I'm just back in normal clothes - it's so comfortable - lovely!

I haven't forgotten that awful 40 degrees last July, have you?

Charleygirl5 Fri 14-Jul-23 22:11:03

I was so cold I had to have a shower before I cooked my supper and settled down to watch TV. I will be back to my hwb. I refuse to switch on the heating as it is mid July. I belive tomorrow will be similar- wonderful.

NotSpaghetti Fri 14-Jul-23 22:16:58

5 days of rain 🌧 predicted here according to the met office.

JenniferEccles Fri 14-Jul-23 22:21:03

I’m certainly not complaining about the rain. We need it don’t we? Our lawns are getting quite parched, and, until today, my husband has been out every evening watering the plants with the hose.
In any case I’m one of those who hates the heat. I would really struggle to cope with the temperature they are currently experiencing in Southern Europe. Horrendous. Low twenties in the summer suit me just fine, with sunny days interspersed with showers.

I’m also strange in that I don’t hate winter !

Mizuna Fri 14-Jul-23 22:51:13

I ansolutely love winter, the cold, the rain... can't bear summer, which drains me. However, I do feel for the holidaymakers who come to Cornwall and face days of rain. It's sad to see a cagoule-clad family huddled in a café wishing they could go to the beach.

saltrock123 Fri 14-Jul-23 23:20:12

Can we swap please? its been horrendous this week, sooo hot.

MiniMoon Fri 14-Jul-23 23:46:19

We certainly need the rain, but I would like warm rain without the horrible cold wind. I thought about lighting the fire but it would have meant going out in the rain to fetch the logs.
I wore my jeans and a fleecy sweater and threw a crocheted blanket over my legs while watching the tennis.

JenniferEccles Fri 14-Jul-23 23:57:32

Where are you saltrock123?

Catterygirl Sat 15-Jul-23 00:06:46

I am most definitely weird. My parents took me to the West Indies and then Kuwait to live. Husband and I had a villa in Spain for about twenty years so I spend much of my time shivering back in the UK. I Just can’t bear the cold.

Sara1954 Sat 15-Jul-23 07:13:15

I kept waking up cold last night, eventually had to go and find another blanket.
I know there is still plenty of time to have some good weather, but I always feel that as soon as the schools break up, we’re hurting towards autumn.

M0nica Sat 15-Jul-23 07:46:42

Our family divide into those who feel the cold and those who don't. I am in the 'feel the cold' camp.

Even as a school child I would be wearing a sweater when other girls were in shirt sleeves. Mind you I was not alone, the divide was fairly general and my sister and best friend felt the cold even more than I do.

DH and DD go out in blizzards in T shirts - They are mad!!

Blondiescot Sat 15-Jul-23 07:57:09

It's certainly not been cold up here in Scotland. We have a strict rule in our household anyway. No central heating unless absolutely necessary, and in practice, it's rarely on - maybe for a couple of hours in the evening on very very cold days (when the temperature is below zero). If it's cold, we use the log burner, but even then, it is kept to a minimum. Can't bear an overheated house.

Freya5 Sat 15-Jul-23 08:31:52

I don't feel chilly. Out yesterday with no coat, dodging the rain drops , I still feel warm, rain watering garden, so plants looking healthy. Feel for those suffering excessive heat, friends in Turkey 40 plus degrees, have experienced it, so happy to be living in UK. Sure we'll have some sun back soon .

Kiwiqueen123 Sat 15-Jul-23 08:43:58

Grey, slight glimmer of sun occasionally but coldish. Yesterday I wore a merino wool jumper and winter leggings, today a fleece I think. Think its supposed to be a bit better at the beginning of the week here in Hertfordshire. The petunias in pots look very bedraggled this morning.....

boheminan Sat 15-Jul-23 09:19:01

It's raining.

So, that's South Oxfordshire in for 40 days and 40 nights of rainsad.

'Thanks St. Swithun'.

Witzend Sat 15-Jul-23 09:31:13

I actually put the electric blanket on last night. 🙂
It’s looking more summery this morning though. 24.2 outside the kitchen window, but the thermometer does have the sun on it at the moment.

Witzend Sat 15-Jul-23 09:33:12

Monica, my dh and dd1 are the same. Dd1 is invariably ‘boiling’. Even in the middle of winter she often has her kitchen bifolds wide open.

biglouis Sat 15-Jul-23 09:34:40

Well I thought it was me feeling the cold but it seems not. Ive been putting on a litte electric heater for an hour first thing and late evening just to take the chill off the room. And there is an extra cover folded on the foot of my bed in case I need it in the night.
