And it’s been raining virtually all day - I’m back in winter woollies, cosy new Lazybones trousers on for the first time.

Given the weather in southern Europe I’m not really complaining, but it’d be nice to have a little bit of summer back soon….

I remember that story, about an old lady who wore an apron and no make up and was no nonsense, forming a real bond with a man in a care home, it was on a thread fairly recently but can’t say which one. Will have a think.

Well, that's something to look forward to, then, if I go into a care home 🙂

No, I really don’t think it is grandMattie. Are you a new poster Izzywhizz? I’ve never come across you before now. Strange you’re posting on this thread about the weather.

Going back to the original post by Witzend, yes, it’s been a bit chilly at times the last few days, and we’ve had lots of rain, but when I think back to this time last year with the horrible heatwave and temps reaching almost 40 degrees C, I’m quite happy to go back to the typical English summer (though I’d be quite happy to have a bit more warm sunshine now for a while, but suspect our summer was in June 😁😁).

Just off to find my fishing rod now…

But it only happens if you wear your pinny, so remember that if you want to find love the second or third time around.😂

Me on my one day on beach so far this year, at sis's, as in glorious UK summers day.

nearly blown over.

Izzywhizz is one of our granddaughter’s nickname.

I call DGD Izzwhizz. How obvious and unoriginal we all are. Howeve I am sure all our DGD's will survive having to share their DGM's pet name for them.

JenniferEccles - would be happy with "low twenties" - unfortunately, as well as 5 days of rain, our forecast is all below 20⁰ except on Wednesday when it is forcast to reach 20⁰ at 4pm.
Two days are predicted to drop to 11⁰.

Feels a bit nippy to me.

I'm guessing that's it for our summer if we're on the wrong side of the jet stream band.

What I want to know is, without being too outing, I crossed a small band of water both ways recently, and the difference in temperature was at least 3 degrees warmer in the other country. Just by going not that many miles.

Weather is baffling as far as I am concerned.
When we returned, the weather went down more than 5 degrees. And went from sunny to rain as well. All in a short space of time.

I am aware that GM does not live in a care home but I did think it was some sort of sheltered accommodation as she has to get permission for all sorts of things to be carried out in the flat.

Izzywhiz is new and was aware she was posting on the wrong thread but I am unsure if she knows how to start her own.

A way to a man's heart is making him think you can cook 😁

I would greatly prefer the heatwave to the cold gale blowing here today or last night's thunder storm.

Witzend Sun 16-Jul-23 18:40:35

I love a good thunderstorm!
OTOH the wind has been playing havoc with my poor hollyhocks - I need some much longer, sturdier stakes for them.

Sounds now like it is an unusual situation.
The heatwave had been predicted, but hadnt quite happened fully by last week. It was hot enough for me. Going to be quite dangerous possibly, going forward, by the sounds of things.

Redhead56 Mon 17-Jul-23 08:34:57

Two weeks ago I got my summer dresses and blouses out. I washed and patiently ironed them ironing doesn’t come natural to me. I am wondering if I wasted my time got the bed socks out last it was cold.

Redhead56 Mon 17-Jul-23 08:36:26

Last night it was cold!

M0nica Mon 17-Jul-23 13:17:11

Funny day. First thing it was really cold and I was outside in a thick fleece. Currently I am in a thin T shirt and feeling hot.
