Good morning from Cornwall where rain is forecast today. It's our allotment indoor Summer Show today, a very traditional event and for all of us the lovely highlight of our year. So many more young allotment holders have joined this year, which makes it even more fun. I've entered a knitted fruit bat in the craft section but couldn't manage to grow enough veg to submit because of my crutches. Loads of home made cakes and coffee and meeting up with friends help make it a super day, topped off by an auction where all the produce is sold. My youngest son loves it too and will join me later.

Good morning from a damp looking Crewe.

The show sounds like a lovely traditional event, Mizuna which sounds appealing to many.

Our journey went well with a change at Birmingham giving us a welcome chance to stretch our legs. Whilst there, we observed a homeless man begging. A young woman travelling alone left her luggage to pay for a snack for him whilst another young man gave him money. An example to the older generation.

A taxi ride to our Travelodge hotel was entertaining for DH as the driver was also interested in trains and had been since the days of steam.

We shan’t see DD2 and family until tonight as my ex and his wife are staying with them. However my SIL’s parents are kindly driving us to the dance show venue in Hanley this evening.

I hope those absent friends know they are being thought about along with others going through difficult times.

Good morning from s somerset and there will be rain, all day

I will get myself out on a 30 minute hill march at some stage, then relaxing pottering for the rest of the day. I must push myself to do that tax return too

Have a good day

RosesandLilac Sat 22-Jul-23 06:28:51

Good morning, a damp start here on the edge of the Cotswolds too.
A quiet weekend for me apart from dog walks, I’m happy with that as I’d like to do some painting.
Have a lovely weekend 🌹

Good morning from a cloudy South Downs. Rain forecast later.

mizuma we always contributed to our allotment show when we had one, and won some prizes🙂. It was jolly good fun. Now we content ourselves with the produce from the kitchen garden, which DH is largely in charge of which whilst not so productive is really quite worthwhile, - yesterday we had carrots, cabbage and garlic.

Had a neighbour around for tea yesterday and she told me that she has foxes living in her garden. So now I know where my evening feeder comes from🙂. I sent her off with the remains of the tea I had made, as neither DH or I must eat cake etc. at the moment.

I’ve been eyeing the blackberries that are forming, if they all ripen there is going to be a massive crop this year! I tend to pick in stages and just bung them as they are into the freezer. Lasts nearly all winter. I used to pick enough to make pots and pots of bramble jelly which I love, but not so much now, just enough for crumbles, summer pudding etc.

Veggie day today - so courgette and spinach (both from the garden) lasagne.

Enjoy your day everyone and keep dry!

I always enjoy reading this thread but rarely contribute. I enjoy the snippets of other peoples lives and the huge variety of activities they are involved with. My partner and I spend much of our time living in different countries and I work hard at just getting on with daily life here.
Today it is damp and drizzled in West Yorkshire. I shall go for my morning stomp for an hour before breakfast. I’m off to meet a friend about an hours drive away and she has booked us into a lovely country house restaurant for lunch. My friend is at least 20 years younger than I am and she is a delight to be with. She is also very glamorous and takes her image very seriously. I’m not so glamorous and struggled to come up something suitable to wear for the occasion. I’m lucky to live in a small town which has a number of vintage clothes shops and great charity shops and to my delight I found a wonderful retro pair of jeans, fab colourful shirt and a super pair of Alexander McQueen chunky trainers. I was super excited when I Googled the trainers later to discover that they retail for £450 and I snapped them up for £45. Probably my best bargain ever. So brimming with some glamorous confidence I shall have a lovely day despite the weather.

Good morning from a bright S Hampshire, as WWM2 says rain later.
Enjoy the TDF Mick and you this evening Ashcombe.
I too have some produce from the garden, but need more sun to ripen the many tomatoes in the greenhouse.
I’ll get my paper soon, water said greenhouse and get out for a walk before the rain.
Thoughts with those having a very different day.

Good morning all from a dismal North Leicestershire. We have lots of rain in the forecast.

Up early as the decorator is coming at 9 am to quote for doing the kitchen after it is finished.

DD3 and co are going to Norfolk, on holiday, today and the weather looks appalling. I hope they take lots of games.

My friend seems to be getting a little better and is getting about with her walker but has asked me to go and arrange some flowers for her.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Good morning all from cool and cloudy South Lanarkshire.

Sound like a lovely day out Mizuna, have fun.

Tourists are back in force in Edinburgh, so many that we couldn’t get a table at the Palace Cafe so crossed the road to the Parliament and enjoyed our coffees in their cafe. DGD commented that it was just like the airport as we went through security, putting our belongings into trays.

Today we’re heading north to Loch Melfort to spend the week with DD and her family. We have separate cottages but the children will come and go between the two I’m sure. I’m packing for all weathers.

Good luck to your dancing GD Ash, enjoy her show.

Hoping Marydoll has a better day, sending love to Kalu, Urms and also to Baggs, who’s an occasional visitor to the good morning thread.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Love the sound of your charity shop haul, MissChatelaine, have fun.

Good morning everyone from north Kent where it is cloudy but dry.

An uneventful trip home from Norfolk yesterday with no holdups - not even over the Dartford Crossing which is always a bonus. We collected the cat from the cattery, who was pleased to see us until she remembered she wasn’t speaking to us in retribution for incarcerating her in such a dreadful place so we could go off enjoying ourselves!

Today, weather permitting, will be a day in the garden tidying up the plants. We have only been gone a week, but everything has exploded into growth so a bit of tying and trimming is required. The lawn mower will have to be stirred into life as well.

Welcome *Miss Chateline*; I am a recent contributor too; hope you enjoy your outing in your glamorous outfit and trainers.

Hope you all have a good day.

Good morning from a greyish Bristol. It has rained in the night.
I had an exhausting day yesterday. The chap came bang on time to build the IKEA wardrobe. It is far bigger than I expected, and think that p I’ll get a severe telling off from DD when they come for lunch. They have invited themselves, before going to see “Barbie” in my village (as a birthday treat for SiL 😂)
While he was assembling, I made cakes for today, figured out a new patchwork pattern, and cut it out.
I then had to dispose of mountains of cardboard and plastic bags, left from the bits of cupboard. Fortunately, it is all recyclable.
The afternoon was spent trying to figure out what goes where, and where on earth did I put X and Y, when 8 unpacked. Did I actually unpack? Are they still in unreachable boxes?
I’m serving the refreshments at the church Coffee and Chat for the first time this morning. As mentioned earlier, DD and family are bringing their lunch to share, so it’ll be a bit of a scramble to get it all together.
Enjoy your Saturday everyone, and hugs and prayers to those in need.

Good morning from a damp Oxfordshire, with more rain forecast for later it’s an ‘indoors day’ today.
Nothing happening here so I’ll bid you all a good day and hope that those who are poorly will start to feel better and best wishes to Urms and Kalu and their families.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 22-Jul-23 07:07:52

Happy Birthday Gingster 🥂🎂🎉

Good morning all from N Bucks where we have had rain and it looks grey. Hard to believe when temperatures in S mainland Europe are rocketing sky high. But I am happier like this.
Youngest D, SIL and the little boys are at Latitude this weekend so I am keeping an eye on the weather in Suffolk (☔️☔️☔️☔️ I fear) and I am also concerned about the Test match. GS 1 who stayed last week is a keen cricketer (spin bowler) and explained the finer points to me while we watched Today at the Test on iPlayer yesterday. I would hate to see it rained off especially as England are doing so well!
Quiet day as GS1 was returned to his family yesterday so possibly catching up on the laundry and ironing - I know how to live!
Kind thoughts to those in pain, distressed or worried, you know who you are and you are in my thoughts.

cornergran Sat 22-Jul-23 07:19:59

Morning Mick, morning All. A wet day forecast for our corner of Somerset.

There’s not been a lot to share although we have had a couple of enjoyable National Trust days out and a windy walk or two on what has become a very busy sea front.

Mr C continues to be booked for surgery next week 🤞. Our very resilient daughter in law is away on a much needed holiday with her family. They have arranged to be back for operation day, we’ll feel so bad should a further cancellation appear

You’ve a busy day ahead grandmattie, hope all goes to plan. Mick pleased you sound stronger, build up the walks gently. Hope this evening goes well ash, your day sounds great mizuma. Hope today is manageable with something to lighten your heart marydoll. My thoughts have been with everyone with personal mountains to climb.

Happy holiday to all setting off. Travel safely.

Morning all from West Oxfordshire. Daughter and I had a lovely day yesterday. We went to Chastleton House, which is an NT property about an hour away. A very interesting house to look round followed by tea and cake in the church next door. We had lunch on the way at a garden centre with a reputation for excellent food. We encountered a beautiful honey coloured standard poodle in the restaurant. What a gorgeous dog. Today, OH is seeing to his bees. Daughter and I will meet him for lunch at one of our favourite restaurants, which just happens to be in the village where his bee hives are! Have a good day.

brook2704 Sat 22-Jul-23 07:33:51

Good morning everyone from Inverness where we’ve got blue sky and sunshine, but I’m sure the rain will turn up later
Hope the show goes well this evening Ash!
We’ve some workmen arriving to fix the back door steps this morning, we’ve a few wooden steps going down to the patio and they need replacing. Other than that we’ve nothing planned but I’m hoping to get on with jobs in the garden.
Happy holidays baubles and everyone else enjoying time away
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Grandmabatty Sat 22-Jul-23 07:35:35

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and dry. MissChatelaine I wish I had an eye for just such a bargain! Baubles enjoy your holiday.
Yesterday was a tiresome day of queuing and travelling. The flight was slightly delayed which didn't help. We all got a bit cross and bothered at times but landed safely in Edinburgh. Dgs1 was in the cockpit again chatting to the pilots. He was a delight on holiday, chatted to everyone and learned a little Spanish and charmed the native speakers. Dgs2 shouted Hiya and waved to people who invariably said Hiya back to him. He was in love with buses and awestruck at airplanes, shouting, "Lookatthat!" every two minutes. He was not a fan of the pool but enjoyed running around, being chased by one of us. I had a lovely time, however I have sunburn and blistered feet. That'll teach me to put cream on properly! So I hirpled about yesterday.
Today I have an early Tesco delivery. I did most of the holiday washing when I got home yesterday, so have a little left to do today. I'll potter about gladly in the house and garden, happy to be home in cooler temperatures. Roast chicken for dinner later. Have a good day all

BlueSapphire Sat 22-Jul-23 07:47:26

Good morning from a very grey and damp Northampton, rain forecast all day. Just enjoying my mug of tea, and will probably have some toast later. (I must get into practice for breakfast on the cruise ship....)

Yesterday was pleasant - did some holiday shopping at our nearby retail park, then met a friend and her DH for lunch. Afterwards they took me to see their new abode; having decided to downsize, they have moved into a lovely brand new apartment, which of course looks like a show home (!). (But in my opinion their furniture and accessories are too dark - mostly black....). It needs some colour. Her DH kindly dropped me home afterwards.

Nothing planned for today, will probably watch some recordings and knit this afternoon.
DS may appear to see if I have a couple of spare suitcases for them to borrow - they are off to the sunnier climes of Corfu on Monday. I know there is a spare one in the second bedroom, but there may be another in the loft. I fancy doing some baking, but not sure what - may scour my baking books to find something.
Steak and fried onions for dinner tonight, yummy!

Busy day ahead for many today - have a pleasant Saturday.

Gingster Sat 22-Jul-23 07:48:55

Good morning all and it’s a dreary one.

Thanks GG and a very happy birthday to you too. 🍰💐💥.

DS1 is popping round for a coffee soon. We’re the early birds of the family so it’s nice just the two of us.

A quiet day preparing for the family coming tomorrow. And a Chinese meal for this evening.

Enjoy the day everyone.🌸

Pittcity Sat 22-Jul-23 07:50:37

Good morning from a grey skied Colchester. Another autumnal day in July.
DS has brought his laundry home and I have bedding to wash. I fear the tumble dryer will be in use as rain is forecast.
We'll have the England women's football match on this morning.
Love to all 🦩 x

Susan56 Sat 22-Jul-23 07:52:18

Good morning from Shropshire where rain is forecast for most of the day.

DH succumbed to the stomach bug so yesterday was a tricky day.I started off taking the two children to a party.Thank goodness for satnav as I didn’t have a clue where I was going.Grandmabatty I take my hat off to you.Two children at soft play is not for the faint hearted.DGD played with her friends but keeping track on one toddler wasn’t easy let alone two.The children were really good while I completed everything on my to do list.I must have looked exhausted as my daughters elderly neighbour popped in and said hmmm I think I will go up to the village and get you all fish and chips for tea.So kind and much appreciated.

We have several quiet days planned🤞🏻so I am looking forward to a tidy house,up to date laundry basket and lots of reading.

cornergran, I hope and pray Mr C’s operation goes ahead next week and that your DlL gets a date for surgery very soon🙏🏻

Thoughts with all struggling through illness themselves or caring for loved ones who are unwell💐

Have the best day you can everyone🌺🦩

ginny Sat 22-Jul-23 07:56:21

Good morning all. North Bucks looks wet and dreary today.
We have two youngest DGSs arriving soon . We shall be entertaining them while DD & SIL pack up their caravan. They are off to Cornwall this evening. I do hope the weather cheers up.
We will need a quiet evening.

Thoughts with those who are poorly. A pleasant day wished for all.
