Soop I was a bit dubious when you said you were getting an exercise bike. I cannot use the upright ones either. It might be a good idea to take a look at mini exercise bikes similar to this one. I have one on the advice of my neurophysiotherapist. You can use it sitting in any suitable chair and can also be used to exercise the arms and shoulders when placed on a table.

Grandmabatty Sat 09-Sept-23 17:16:49

Soop all credit to you for trying to keep fit. I'm sure there will be a method to suit you. Brook you are so energetic and fit! You put me to shame. Today in Polmont it has been uncomfortable. The heat and humidity combined haven't made it a pleasant day. Heavy clouds are massing and we've had a few spots of rain. I have been busy. Bedding changed and four washes out and dried. Food shopping done at Aldi. Bathroom and kitchen cleaned, house polished and hoovered. I also went to the local garden centre and got birthday gifts and cards, as well as a couple of pots of cyclamens and other autumn/winter colour which I have planted up. I've done a little gardening too. Shortly I'll visit mum then have a salmon salad on my return. I might have a glass of wine. Have a good evening Kitcheners

What a shame about the exercise bike soop but no point if it’s not suitable for you. I hope Mr Soop can get it all back in the box ok. Have you tried the mini pedal exercisers that you can use just sitting in your favourite chair? I’ve not got one but one of my friends has and she pedals away happily in the evenings whilst watching tv.
Thank you so much for thinking about me SueD, I’ve not got a sourdough starter but I’ve got a lot on in the next couple of weeks so probably won’t have time just now. Thanks so much for your kind offer though and well done in keeping yours going for 4 years!
It’s a windy day here today but still very warm and sunny, about 23º. Tomorrow is due to be quite a bit cooler thank goodness. I’ve been to the gym for a really enjoyable salsa style dance class, it’s not on that often but I thought I’d give it a go. The new instructor is amazing, she’s from Latin America and certainly has all the right moves
DH is out scarifying the lawn, what a big job that is, mainly picking up all the debris. I’m helping a bit by making cups of tea 🤣
Wonder where neine has flown off to - have I missed something?
Hoping annsixty is doing ok ❤️

Urms YOU epitomised the perfect bride. What a gorgeous photograph. I can almost smell your marvellous bouquet.

It is sticky, sultry and not at all pleasant hereabouts. Yesterday, at one point, the temperature came close to 30 degrees. To be honest, I felt like a limp rag. When I was a young lassie, I was a sun worshipper. Those days are lost in the mists of time.

The exercise bike has to be dismantled and returned for a full refund. I cannot mount it without standing on a high-ish stool. Since I am unsteady at the best of times, it is not sensible to risk toppling over.
The bike is Ultrasport Heimtrainer F-bike 150. I am 4' 11" tall. The central frame is too high for me to lift my knee over.

A disappointment. Another job for dear Mr Soop to deal with as it will need repackaging etc.

We are ticking off a list of to-dos in preparation for visitors. After which, the dust will be permitted to linger a little longer. wink

All good wishes to You lovely lot for a peaceful and pleasant weekend. You are never far from my thoughts. smile moon

Just about to take off... I'll catch up with you all soon. ♥️

Blossoming Fri 08-Sept-23 22:47:15

Good news about the results SueD. I was told they’d take 6 weeks but I got them back the following week,

It’s still very hot here, goodnight all, sleep tight 😴

SueDonim Fri 08-Sept-23 22:41:38

Do you have a sourdough starter, Brook? I’m happy to send some to you, if it would get you going. It’s about 4yo now. grin

Grandmabatty Fri 08-Sept-23 21:32:24

Good news Suedonim. I'm glad you had the all clear

brook2704 Fri 08-Sept-23 21:17:38

Good to see you posting Urms
Thanks SueD pleased the sourdough was a hit and well done in making it. I’ll maybe give it a go sometime

SueDonim Fri 08-Sept-23 21:01:36

Lovely to see you, Urms.

So sad, GranmaChrisy. flowers

Not long now, Yia! Those last few days seem to take forever, don’t they?

It’s been 27deg here today and this evening it’s been warm enough to sit outside with cool drinks. 🍹 it’ll be at least ten degrees cooler next week so we’re making the most of it. Anyone else had Saharan sand dumped on their cars and outdoor furniture? Ours was covered in it this morning!

Brook, the sourdough bread has been a huge hit! It’s not strictly sourdough because I used yeast as well but it turned out so well. It was light and airy and with just enough of that sourdough tang to satisfy the taste buds. I added 100g of starter to the mix and reduced the amount of flour and water by 50g/ml each. To be honest, it was very approx measurements but it worked.

I unexpectedly had to defrost the allegedly frost-free freezer today. Dh noticed the door wasn’t closing properly, which turned out to be because of ice build up. On this hot day, I had to hack away at the ice with sharp implements whilst trying to keep the contents from thawing. I managed it in the end although there was a lot water on the floor by the time I’d finished.

The post this morning brought me a cheering letter in the form of the all-clear from my routine mammogram. It was back in mid-July, it’s taking weeks for the results to go out to people.

This weekend I’m going to be looking at flights to the US to visit DS1 and also hopefully seeing a friend who’s been away for a while.

Sweet dreams, all! Xx

A very wistful post Urms xx

Urmstongran Fri 08-Sept-23 20:14:57

‘Evening All’ from a very warm buzzy Urmston town centre.

Looking down just down (in some envy) from our balcony, people are strolling about on their way into Bevano or maybe another bar or restaurant with family, some young children and friends. Everyone looks tanned as though they’ve come back from a Mediterranean holiday and the sounds of their laughter and chat reach upwards to me.

Jaxjacky Fri 08-Sept-23 19:01:02

12 brook goodness! It’s 26 here now, next week the low 20’s are forecast.
Injuries abound, go steady you two brook and Grandmabatty
I’m not surprised you can’t wait Yia it’s been a long time coming, I hope most of the jobs are now done.
I was out for a walk before 9 this morning, not too bad, then, after watering just did some online admin. We’ve just got in from the pub, which was pretty busy, everyone outside, a good catch up with folk we know.
Easy dinner of quiche, new potatoes and salady bits, then we’ll probably watch the rugby Allez les Bleus!
Have a pleasant evening all.

brook2704 Fri 08-Sept-23 18:07:58

Revise that forecast for next week down to 12! 🥶

brook2704 Fri 08-Sept-23 18:05:59

My goodness grandmabatty 28 degrees!! Like you say unheard of up here .. I’ve just looked at the forecast for next week here, it’s only going to be 14degrees !
Like you say I might have worked a bit too hard this morning in the heat, no real damage done though thank goodness - hope your foot is ok too

Grandmabatty Fri 08-Sept-23 18:02:03

Good evening Kitcheners. Ooft. Currently it's 28° in Polmont. Central Scotland has never been so hot surely. My garden angels started at eight and finished at ten. Then I looked after dgs2 for a while. This afternoon I watched the last of I Claudius then moved a few things in the garden. I also dropped a metal table on my foot which was very painful and annoying. Brook maybe you overdid things. I hope you aren't too bruised. Have a good evening all.

mrshat Fri 08-Sept-23 17:04:22

Lovely photos Urms - a beautiful bride and a proud looking dad! I also had yellow roses for my wedding bouquet! 52 years ago this month! It was a VERY windy day but the rain held off!
Keep safe both flowers

brook2704 Fri 08-Sept-23 16:18:20

Good afternoon kitchen pals, it’s another roasting day here in Inverness, about 26º! Just some hazy cloud now that’s arrived on the horizon which will hopefully cool things down a bit
I do know Dunkeld SueD a gorgeous place to spend a few hours. We’ve been there a couple of times and always enjoyed it. If you don’t mind can you let us know how the sourdough bread turned out, it’s my favourite type of bread and I’d love to be able to make it. Thanks !
I did the dreaded circuits class at the gym this morning, it’s always slightly different each week but this morning it seemed extra hard. I think the heat has zapped my energy! I had a dip if the pool afterwards and then coffee with my pal at Starbucks. I just got home and clumsily fell up the front door step - how I did it I don’t know but I grazed my knee 😳 such a daft thing to do!
That Cambridge heat is something else Gillgran I keep getting updates from DD1 from there with the intense temperatures, hope you’re managing ok
Hoping everything goes ok with the move Yia like you say it’s not easy to do anything much in this heat. You’ll hopefully be able to rest and relax a bit once you’re settled in

Yiayia4 Fri 08-Sept-23 16:07:36

Beautiful pic Urms, Happy anniversary for yesterday and hope you had a lovely day with each other.🥂🌹🌹

I’m absolutely shattered, keep finding more things to be done and this heat is not helping..🔥🔥Only 3 more days to go now,It can’t come quick enough.
Enjoy your evening Kitcheners stay cool.

gillgran Fri 08-Sept-23 14:10:07

Thank you, Urmstongran, for sharing your lovely photos. Pretty flowers, & what a beautiful bride with proud father.
I hope you & your husband enjoyed your special day together. flowers

Almost a week now of this very hot & humid weather here in Cambridgeshire, as I get older I'm less tolerant of extreme temperatures. ( my DH would tell you that I'm less tolerant......full stop..!! wink grin )

Warm wishes to all in soop's friendly kitchen. x

Blossoming Fri 08-Sept-23 10:09:52

Happy Anniversary Urmstongran I’m sorry I missed your post yesterday.

It was so hot and sultry here yesterday I felt quite unwell. I’m surprised there wasn’t a storm. The sunshine is back today and it feels much fresher.

Have a Good Friday all 🌻🌻🌻

Grandmachrisy47 Fri 08-Sept-23 10:01:14

Urms, you’re so right. Things only got worse as my sister’s wedding took place four weeks later.
Hope things are easier for you.

Urmstongran Fri 08-Sept-23 08:05:32

Oh Grandmachrisy that’s so sad. Your wedding to be followed a few weeks later by the funeral. Your emotions will have been in turmoil I expect.
x

Grandmachrisy47 Thu 07-Sept-23 21:35:35

Such a beautiful bride, Urms. It brought a tear, to my eye.
My favourite wedding day photo is of my dad and me entering the church., four weeks later my lovely dad died unexpectedly.

SueDonim Thu 07-Sept-23 21:04:51

Oh, that wedding photo, Urms! How beautiful you are. Congratulations on your anniversary. 💘💘💘💘💘
Sleep well after all your wine, Topsy. grin
Shaving over a not stove, Jax. 😂
Blossoming, I have seven nieces and nephews and ten great nieces and nephews. I’m not in that much contact with all of them but I love seeing how they’re all getting on in life.
Glad you’re feeling better LLFL. What does your Dh use his guns for? I’ve used a friend’s guns in the US. I was hopeless at clay pigeon shooting, although I managed to blast a whole load of leaves off a tree. Otoh, I’m a dab hand with a Magnum, hitting an old frying pan several times with a most satisfying thwang. 😂

It’s been another warm day here and like Jax I’ve been wearing summer dresses. It was very misty this morning, though. I was so shocked to see it I immediately closed the blind again! We took a trip to Dunkeld this afternoon, which Brook might know. It was lovely there, most holiday makers having departed now. We ambled about for two hours and everyone was very friendly and chatty.

Back home, I’ve made bread in my bread maker but have experimented with using some sourdough starter as well. It looks and smells good but I won’t know how it tastes until tomorrow. I’ve also just taken a blackberry tray bake out of the oven. I’ll ice it tomorrow.

We have no grandparents duties this week as little GS has now gone down with the sickness bug. Poor dd got only three hours sleep last night then had to drive forty miles to go and give a presentation to a large group of people at her work. Her dh is fully occupied with harvest, so it’s very hard for them at the moment.

TOYA. Xx
