Good morning, Mick, from a wet Torbay.

My DS and DGS3 might visit today. They’re staying with my ex-DH in Goodrington for a few days. DS is (in)famous for not planning ahead. Because of other commitments, including Dad’s Army opening on Monday, I have little free time, unfortunately, apart from today.

I hope the weekend brings some happy times to all and relief from suffering where needed. 🦩🥰🦩💐🦩

Good morning from a wet Bristol. We are promised storms later today.

I didn’t sleep well last night, woke up around 2am to yet another power cut, and didn’t get back to sleep for about two hours.

Yesterday’s visit to Specsavers was a bit of a saga. After three hours of the optical equivalent of prodding, poking and testing, it was decided that my lenses had been put into the frames incorrectly. The bifocals should have been perfectly
horizontal and weren’t, the eye centre, so carefully measured, wasn’t. So it definitely wasn’t me being a wuss or hypochondriacal. I had put it down to not being able to adjust to the post-cataract effect.

I’m getting new lenses, at no cost to me, in a fortnight. It takes that long because of the complicated prescription but, phew! They want me to try just the one pair to start with; if they ate ok, I’ll have the other three done. I can’t tell you the relief. Goodbye hideous headaches! Goodbye to thinking it was my fault for being unable to adjust to the new glasses. It was the first time in my life, after a lifetime of wearing glasses, that it has happened.

I was wiped out after that and came home to just sit for the rest of the day.

Dinner was simple, a piece of salmon and a salad.

Today, mostly empty. Church coffee morning.

Carpe diem dear friends. 🦩🦩🦩🦩🦩

Good morning everyone from a very grey morning as we approach Reykjavik. This is how the weather has been for most of our time in Iceland; at least we haven't had rain - yet......

Nothing much to report about yesterday; having had three days out in a row, I decided to have a quiet day on board, spent most of it reading.

Today, a mid-morning sightseeing tour of the city. I'm planning on an independent visit tomorrow, so should help me get my bearings.
Have a good Saturday everyone.

Good morning Mick and all from a wet northwest coast.
Early for me as I’m off on another coach day trip (in the rain😨) to North Yorkshire. Getting them in whilst the so called summer is here…
Was surprised to receive a £100 fine from euro Car parks. I had parked in the pub village car park for 24 minutes not realising it was private 🙄 Don’t think it’s worth appealing.

Hope the dress goes well Ash and thoughts to all with troubles 🌺

grandMattie Sat 05-Aug-23 06:46:54

bluesapphire, do visit the cathedral in Reykjavik if you can that, to me, looks like Concorde taking off. It is very beautiful, both in and out,

Good morning from a drab, presently calm and wet s somerset

I am going to slowly sew some dungarees, which I started on yesterday, they have been cut out for a year. The fabric is lovely to work with and I thoroughly enjoyed working on them. There are lots of pieces. I surprised myself, was not looking forward to the task but it is beyond satisfying

Have a good day

Good morning everyone from a dry start to the day to the promise of rain later on here on the beautiful east coast of Fife. Luckily this won’t affect me because I’ll be binging on old black and white movies with Bette Davis one of my old time favourites. I was watching another favourite tv clip recently from way back with Fanny Craddock where Johnny ended the programme by saying I hope all your doughnuts turn out like Fannies 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Grandmabatty Sat 05-Aug-23 06:52:57

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 12° and dry. High cloud above. Ash fingers crossed for the dress rehearsal. GrandMattie it's good that you have got an answer to your horrible headaches.
Yesterday was an extra childcare day for dgs2. He's now progressing to saying some phrases and is very proud of himself.
Today I'll go food shopping at Aldi then some housework and washing. I appear to have developed a cold so I'm not sure whether I'll visit mum later. I'll see how I feel then. A quiet day ahead for me. Have a good day all

Good morning from a wet, blustery Cornwall where my daughter and her husband are ensconced in my other room, hopefully rested after a long train journey yesterday. My first painting of six was duly collected but that sent my neighbour into a panic as, because my daughter is blind and the canvasses so big and awkward in my flat, I had left them in our shared entrance hall. She saw that one had gone and quickly whisked the others away, so they didn't 'walk', as she put it. She's so very kind. Anyway, I heard that they're going to be used as discussion topics for all the school groups that visit our church regularly and kept anonymous as I requested, all of which is just right.

Today a carnival here and before that helping my dear guests find their holiday flat overlooking the sea.

brook2704 Sat 05-Aug-23 07:18:14

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s bright and dry
Thank goodness an answer was eventually found for your headaches gMattie, hoping your new lenses are fitted properly. What an ordeal though, three hours to sort it out
Hope you get to see your DS and DGS sometime today Ash fingers crossed
I’ll be dropping DD1 and DGSs off at the airport this morning, we’ve had such a lovely week together. Yesterdays trip to Chanonry Point to look for the dolphins was successful, after about an hour waiting with nothing happening they all showed up and it was magical. I managed to get one picture of them jumping and loads of pictures of just the sea! Then we had a walk along the beach to Rosemarkie and lunch in the beach cafe there. Back to DD2s for Friday pizzas rounded off another lovely happy day. It’ll be very quiet here from now on.
Hoping your everyone on holiday has a really lovely time
Well done with your paintings mizuna, they sound really interesting and useful for the school groups.
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, especially Urms, Kalu and baggs, take care all whatever the day brings 💐

Good morning from Shropshire. It’s been raining for most of the night and set to continue for most of the day.Hoping it will clear up as DGD has her first Beaver camp this afternoon.

Yesterday went reasonably well.My mum was in a good mood which isn’t a given but I still ended up with my usual post mum visit headache 🙄

DGD stayed for a sleepover.I will take her to sewing club this morning then home for a quick lunch before DD picks her up to take her to camp.It has been lovely having her to ourselves. We all missed H but he takes most of our attention so it has been lovely being able to give M all the attention.

I am pleased the issue with your glasses has been resolved grandMattie.I think I will get my glasses checked after your experience.I keep saying to DH these are the worst glasses I have ever had and was blaming my eyes but maybe it’s the glasses.

Ash I hope you get to see your son and grandson today🤞🏻

Hoping Mary has had a more restful night and is feeling better today🤞🏻💐

Have the best day you can everyone🌺🦩

Grandmabatty Sat 05-Aug-23 07:25:50

Susan sympathies. The post mum headache is real!

Susan56 Sat 05-Aug-23 07:27:16

Thank you Grandmabatty😢💐

RosesandLilac Sat 05-Aug-23 07:27:24

Good morning from a wet and windy village on the edge of the Cotswolds, it’s lashing down with rain.
Yesterday I enjoyed several hours of watercolour painting, very relaxing and a lovely dog walk later with a friend.
Today a soggy dog walk I guess then more watercolour I think. I will do crocheting later while listening to podcasts as I haven’t done any recently.

Gingster Sat 05-Aug-23 07:32:18

Good morning all and it’s a grey one and our last day here on the Suffolk coast, for a little while. We’ve had very mixed weather but enjoyed our walks, days out and just recouping from a stressful time at ‘home’.

Multi that did make me laugh. 🤣🤭.
Ash hope all goes well with rehearsals and also hope you get to see your son and grandson.🤞.
Glad your glasses will be ‘fixed’ GM.

It’s DGD 5’s birthday today. 8 yrs old. We won’t see her but will FaceTime later. I expect her day will be busy with special things. 🥳🎂🎁🎈🎊.

The black clouds are hanging over the sea and a cloudburst is imminent. Hunkering down today, reading the papers, listening to the radio and sitting in the summerhouse listening to the sea …..and rain.

I hope all poorlies are feeling brighter and those with families visiting find some gaps in the weather. ☀️.
Take care 🌸

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from a wet South Yorkshire. It dried up nicely, so I went and picked some blackberries in the afternoon. I like to have some in the freezer over the winter. There were lots of ripe ones but many not yet ripe. Then I tried out my new strimmer on the back garden. It’s nice and light and is supposed to be easy to handle but I managed to cut the heads off three French marigolds and demolish one of my dahlias! I obviously need more practice! Today I will do a food shop as DD and the menfolk are coming for lunch tomorrow, do some ironing as I can’t get away with it any longer, and have a general tidy round.
Enjoy your day, folks.

kittylester Sat 05-Aug-23 07:46:23

Good morning all from a sodden North Leicestershire. We are sharing our bed with 2 granddaughters and watching a musical - as you do!!!

Today our singing group are supposed to be performing at a fund raising event but it is outdoors, at the top of a hill and the rain has set in. I suspect that it will all be cancelled. Such a shame ' the fete is in aid of a lovely young man called Sam who is a friend of our 2 youngest daughters, an award winning athlete and who now has MND.

Have the best day possible everyone.

Pittcity Sat 05-Aug-23 07:57:17

Good morning from a grey, damp Colchester. A much cooler day forecast as yesterday was grey, wet and humid.
We have a family get together at my sister's in South Essex. We will be squeezed in as I think the usual garden party will be out of the question. A few people, including my Mum will be meeting my new DGD for the first time.
I had planned to wear a summer maxi dress but I think short dress and leggings are more sensible.
Love to all 🦩 x

Taichinan Sat 05-Aug-23 07:58:15

Good morning all from the Angus coast where a heavy dark cloud hanging over us is just about to bless us with its content.
Good to start the day with a giggle multi. I have a memory of Fanny and Johnny Craddock - she conducted her cookery shows wearing evening dress!
Thank goodness your problem with your glasses is being sorted grandmattie.
Great photo of if the dolphins Brook. They are fascinating creatures, as I remember from a boat trip on the Tay estuary a few years ago when we were surrounded by them.
I'm off out very soon to catch the train down to Edinburgh for the day. Dancing GD is in a show there at the Fringe - all three of their shows are sell outs which is encouraging for them. The Estonian dance company they visited and performed with in Estonia in April are here for their return visit - what an experience for them all. I used to love the bustle and excitement of the Edinburgh Festival when I was younger - lots of happy memories. I hope I don't find it too much now I've reached decrepitude!! I shall report back tomorrow.
Have an excellent day everyone and I hope all those suffering in one way or another have a better day. And surely that blessed sun will shine somewhere!

Good morning from M. Bucks where it is pouring rain.
Dd3 and family arrived home in the early hours after driving from Cornwall. DD and SlL will be visiting his Dad in hospital later so. we will have the boys for the afternoon.
DD1 is popping over for lunch .

A very happy eldest DGS phoned yesterday with the news that he had passed the course that he has been on for the last fortnight. We also made arrangements for a trip with him in the week.
Haven’t yet read all the posts so wish all a good day with a smile along the way.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 05-Aug-23 08:00:02

Good morning from a soggy South Downs. Set to last all day.

Having a lie in and quiet day today, as Duncan (the Cairn) had a seizure yesterday - getting exited about someone at the door) which lasted a good minute. I will let him dictate when he wants to go out etc. but spend the day peacefully. He seems fine - just subdued.

Veggie day - sweet potato and peanut curry.

Enjoy your day all

monk08 Sat 05-Aug-23 08:02:19

Good morning all from another wet Black country.
Yesterday it stayed dry enough to get the lawn done and a bit more weeding after the boys left. We won't see them now for a few weeks DS has a conference from work and all family goes.
granMattie good your headache problem seems to be sorted.
Ash hope you get to see your DS and DGS.
Will catch up with everybody's happenings later as the usual Saturday full English is calling.
Enjoy your day everyone whatever your plans and may you all find some ☀️.

Marydoll Sat 05-Aug-23 08:22:34

Good morning Mick and all from a damp Glasgow, where its 11°C.

Mick, probably best that you have a rest day and GM, glad you got the eye situation sorted GM

Thank you all for your good wishes yesterday, I'm still not great today and annoyed, for I had plans. I have no idea what has caused this latest RA flare up.
I had sometime to pick up at Silverburn, but gave up after only M&S, that is so unlike me.
The sale was on, but I had no energy for rummaging. (PS, the sale was rubbish.)

The afternoon was spent waiting for the engineer to repair the diswasher. It had been making strange noises the previous evening, even when empty. DH had emptied it, but as usual said he had heard nothing. When I (the sensible one) decided to investigate, it wouldn't fill up with clean water.
I have known the engineer since he was a boy. His father had a small electrical shop, which sold fridges etc, which my mother used in the days before Curry's and the likes. He was also my BIL's best friend and his aunt was married to my cousin!!!
It amazes me how we all have tenuous links with people. It took ages to sort and the pipes underneath the sink needed taken apart! ☹
I usually clean the dishwasher once a month, but because I have been unwell, I left it to DH. Big mistake, the drain was blocked!
The engineer gave me a good tip. He noticed that I was using expensive dishwasher tables and said it was a waste of money, because our water is soft and I should stick to Lidl or Asda ones.
Another suggestion was two tablets in my washing machine and a 90° wash, no need for expensive cleaners.

Later on just as I was going for an early long soak to ease my joints, I heard the door. It was my beloved Dollie and her parents.
They had met daddy off the train, (the first day in six weeks, we have had trains) and scootered to the new McDonald's. Given the choice of a long scootering home and a McFlurrie or scooter to gran's for a lift home and gran's ice cream, you can guess what she chose.

While they were in, I could hear a strange noise from the kitchen, but DH dismissed it, saying I was imagining it. ( HE DOES NOT NEED HEARING AIDS ) As they were leaving, I went into the kitchen to get Dollie a treat and found the utility room worktops swimming in beer! My sewing machine, Ninja and all my small appliances were sitting in beer and the floor was covered in it! 😡
DH hadn't put the new beer canister properly in his beer pump and it could had been spewing beer everywhere. I could have wept, for I was feeling awful.
At this point DH was sitting impatiently in the car, annoyed that no-one was hurrying up.
Dollie went out and insisted he come back in to see the carnage. Of course it wasn't his fault, the cartridge must have been faulty! 🤬
Three rolls of best quality kitchen roll later, I had made little impact on the mess. Let's just say, things are a little frosty this morning and the house smells like a brewery!

I have no plans for today apart from Mass tonight and rewashing the still sticky kitchen floor. ☹

Have a good day folks and best wishes to all, who are struggling.

Morning from a soggy S Hants. I had a problem with varifocals at Specsavers too gMattie I went to Asda, who retested me, my other prescription was wrong.
Magical brook.
MrJ is supposed to be playing bowls later, I’ll be surprised.
Hope visits today are the best, dress rehearsals go smoothly and those struggling find a window of respite.
