Monday night is quiz night with Mastermind, Only Connect and University Challenge. If my husband is at his French class I watch Richard Osman but normally we are eating dinner at 6pm so don't see it.

For some reason I’ve twice recently week come upon Who Wants to be a Millionaire whilst channel hopping. I used to watch it all the time years ago but not since it started up again. It’s so stressful. Even the repeat is stressful. In fact, the repeats are even more stressful. And painful. Are women, thankfully, usually more risk averse (ie sensible) on the show?

I enjoy them all and am so grateful to some lovely people who upload them on to YouTube shortly after they are broadcast so that we expats can watch them.

Only Connect is very often beyond me as it refers to cultural topics that were exclusive to the UK during the 80s and 90s. I left the UK in 1976 and have no idea about the pop music or TV of that era. Later cultural references I can understand, since I could re-connect in the 2000s thanks to the internet.

I find I can answer UC questions OK simply by dint of listening to In Our Time and other Radio 4 science and history programmes. Classical music being universal, I can get those too.

My parents were avid quiz watchers and I suppose I inherited the passion from them. My sister hates them, though.

I like Only Connect and sometimes can answer a few but UC seems beyond me now although I used to be quite good at answering question on there.

Eloethan

I enjoy them all but Only Connect is completely beyond me.

The only time we get any questions right is the last round. The other rounds have us stymied.

My son and I watch Pointless together but spend a lot of time saying "Why don't people know this stuff?" I also watch Only Connect, University Challenge, Puzzling and The 1% Club. Apparently my 10 year old grandson is very good at the 1% Club. My real favourite is Impossible. I wish they would do another series. You have to be so careful reading the questions to avoid the impossible answers. Sadly Eggheads hasn't really survived the move to Channel 5. Cutting one round out to make room for the adverts has really ruined it and there's always the Jeremy Vine problem!

Never watched one

We watched the one with Lucy Worsley last night for the first time - if I'd had 5 minutes for each question and had them written in front of me, I might have got them all right grin

I enjoy them all but Only Connect is completely beyond me.

Yes, love all the quizzes. Keeps your brain sharp. Hubby has better general knowledge than me but we still compete.😂

aggie Wed 16-Aug-23 09:53:52

I watch them all but Countdown is my favourite , mind you I usually end up with 6 letter words and never the 9

Freya5 Wed 16-Aug-23 09:42:03

Like Pointless, the Chase, Tipping point, Master mind not 1% or anything with Jeremy Vine, find egg heads very smug. Yes I do answer the questions, amazing what your brain retains over the years. Do find it hilarious when some competitors know all about celebrity, but nothing of any use in a quiz.

I love the quizzes on TV. FAvourites are Only Connect (Well done Victoria), University challenge, Eggheads and definitely The Chase. Beat the Chasers is good but too much audience participation, i.e. cheering etc. But, hey ho, that is the way of popular television. Richard Osman comes in close with his House of Games. Pointless, well the name says it all. Sorry AA. You are much better than this. Yes, I do shout out the answers and feel particularly pleased when I get the answer and the contestant(s) do not. My 86 year old Mother really likes The Chase. Life is not the same if she cannot watch The Chase even if it is a repeat on Challenge TV. Speaking of which, Mum likes Bullseye, which she reminds me is on a Saturday night and I'd better hurry home if I do not want to miss it. I'm stuck in a traffic jam that night!

The Chase and 1% Club - wish the latter was on every day. My H likes Tipping Point and Lingo while I am preparing the dinner. University Challenge is beyond me but I quite like watching the students as they are so knowledgeable.

BBC often put on the odd new quiz but after the first few episodes we never see them again.

JayDee60 Sun 13-Aug-23 10:24:41

Love them. Especially when I get them right and my husband gets them wrong. Love Eggheads and 1% club.

JennyCee Sun 13-Aug-23 08:13:54

Try Puzzling then with Lucy Worsley. She’s unlike all the other compères but the questions - really quite hard.

Arto1s Sun 13-Aug-23 02:55:07

Oh yes indeed! Live in the States, and watch Jeopardy every evening. We try and answer every question. Love it!

Bijou Sat 12-Aug-23 22:22:04

I watch all the quizzes and shout the answers. Surprised how they don’t know the answers to the most simple questions especially Mastermind and University Challenge.

jaybee66 Sat 12-Aug-23 18:52:58

Never quizzes but challenge each other every week with university challenge and Mastermind.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Sat 12-Aug-23 18:52:38

I love quizzes and was on The Chase a couple of years back. Despite being quite good at quizzing I came home with just a memory but it was a very enjoyable experience.

I don't watch them all though and to be honest even I am getting a bit jaded with some of them now.

Cossy Sat 12-Aug-23 16:30:23

Yes yes yes !! 1% club, Only Connect and very chuffed when I get an answer right! The Chase, and most other quizzes, it keeps my brain functioning 😂😂😂 (sometimes)

ParlorGames Sat 12-Aug-23 16:00:17

Yes, we sometimes watch Lingo, The Chase and Moneyball.

Gwenisgreat Sat 12-Aug-23 15:28:39

Of course, doesn't everyone? That's part off the fun!

Esmay Sat 12-Aug-23 15:23:54

I shout out the answers to quizzes .
