I hve just had a letter from the Pensions Agency to say that from next week, when I am 80, I will be getting an extra 25p pension a week.

What on earth am I to spend all this largesse on? Should I while away an afternoon looking round a supermarket deciding what to spend it on. Perhaps save it up for a year and treat DH amd I to fish and chips -

Although he will be getting his extra 25p a week in a months time. Then we really will be in clover. Las Vegas, perhaps npt, , Blackpool, no, I think we might just get some bus passes and go to a games alley in a nearby town and once every 4 weeks we could have one go each on a slot machine (I assume they run on £1 coins). You never we may get really lucky and win a fiver.

Can’t wait to turn 80 - giddy with anticipation 😂😂

It's all a con by a government of crooks. They will be claiming they've increased pensions next!

henetha Fri 11-Aug-23 10:46:55

I can understand your excitement. grin.
I've been getting this extra 25 pence for almost six years now and can honestly say it has (has not!!!) made a huge difference to my standard of living. Butter instead of margarine, for instance.
It's a huge responsibility, be careful how you spend it. wine

DH saves his and buys himself an icecream or two in the summer.

Aldom Fri 11-Aug-23 10:54:29

In 1971 25p was worth £2.50 in today's money. Quite a difference.

Blondiescot Fri 11-Aug-23 10:57:51

Push the boat out and treat yourself to one of these...

You lucky bugger 🤢

Is £13 going to be enough for fish and chips x two by the time you've saved it up for a whole year M0nica? grin

Last time I bought fish and chips for my grandson - it was £9. They might as well drop this 'increase' and the admin that goes with it. Think of the cost of sending all those letters - and the disappointment they cause must be elder abuse!

annsixty Fri 11-Aug-23 11:10:21

I decided to save mine foe a year and then treat myself to a cheap brand bottle of gin.

M0nica Fri 11-Aug-23 11:13:26

Yes, and there is a pensioners special offer at lunch time. We might even run to a bottle of cola or a Fanta!

YorkLady Fri 11-Aug-23 11:19:47

I don’t want to punch a hole in your excitement but don’t forget that the tax man will want his share 😂😂

Dickens Fri 11-Aug-23 11:32:56

Just imagine if that 25p takes you over the tax threshold and you then become liable!

annodomini Fri 11-Aug-23 11:39:42

I remember getting that 25p almost three years ago but it seems to have disappeared without trace into the black hole that is my bank account.

Dottydots Fri 11-Aug-23 11:42:55

I'm 81, older, uglier and more in pain than I've ever been, but hey! I do get 25p to compensate. I should count my blessings. Ha! Ha!

Pensions increased by 10% this year!
Pensions are still determined by the triple lock.

As for the 25p, it should be done away with, as should the £10 Christmas bonus. Both are useless but no doubt cost quite a bit of money over the country as a whole.

I would prefer that the Pension Credit was increased for those pensioners who qualify.

Aveline Fri 11-Aug-23 11:52:33

Enjoy every penny of it!

sodapop Fri 11-Aug-23 12:54:10

Only three years to go I can hardly contain my excitement. Better not mention it to the family or they will be looking for a treat. smile

BlueBelle Fri 11-Aug-23 12:57:17

I m a year ahead of you Sodapop and ecstatic with anticipation

M0nica Fri 11-Aug-23 13:09:18

Yorklady. You are right. so, I will start again:

I am incandescent with excitement!!!!!

I have just had a letter from the Pensions Agency to say that from next week, when I am 80, I will be getting an extra 25p pension a week (20p after standard rate tax of 20p in the £1 is deducted)

It will take me a bit longer to afford the fish and chips and our trip to the coin machine place will now be once every 5 weeks rather than 4 weeks as before

maddyone on a more sober note, i entirely agree with you.

Georgesgran Fri 11-Aug-23 13:49:57

I agree too maddyone. Increase Pension Credit for those who need it. I’m sure most of us can manage without a £10 Christmas Bonus.
The WFP this year will remain at £500 for we OAPs.

So, I wonder what it'll be worth in the next 52 years, in 2075? 😆
