Angela Rayner as Deputy Prime Minister God help us šŸ™

What do you think?

Bridie22 Mon 04-Sept-23 19:29:22

Well done on your new appointments Angela, I think you are a breath of normality!

Iam64 Mon 04-Sept-23 19:52:24

Gillian Keegan šŸ˜µā€šŸ’«. I’m waiting for Sunak to say he has full confidence, that guarantees she’ll go

Angela Raynor -great news on her appointment and remaining deputy leader.

We Streeting good on ch 4 news just now

This decision will be regretted.

AR is just so rough and common.

I have a friend who has never lost her broad Lancs accent but she is super bright, very well educated and polite and charming. She can mix with anybody and people listen to her because she knows how to interact.

AR not only looks like she should be hanging around the streets but she sounds awful, like she has a mouthful of marbles and sneers when she talks about people from other parties and calls them ā€œscumā€.

She did have a rough start in life but smart people learn to adapt their dress and behaviour when they move on in life.

I would rather have Lisa Nandy than her, at least she is polite and more approachable.

Your judgemental, patronising post is offensive . a friend who never lost her broad Lancs accent etc etc
I’m northern though as a southerner once said ā€˜are yiu dear, you can’t tellā€
Go Angela

How is that patronising? I love to hear regional accents and my friend obviously loves hers and sees no reason to change it.

Primrose has made it clear that she wouldn’t ever vote Labour anyway, so her opinion of Angela Rayner isn’t worth a bean. It’s people who will be voting Labour who Angela needs to convince. I think this role is right for her, she will fight her battles strongly because she cares, and I hope she will do well.

Iam64 Mon 04-Sept-23 20:44:27

I wasn’t sure about Angela when Corbyn gave her education but my view changed. She’s grown into her roles. She’s clever, entertaining and understands the real difficulties so many face
I’m pleased with Starmer’s reshuffle
Wes Streeting was good on ch4 news

Well as you'd never vote Conservative, your opinion of this Government isn't worth a bean. Wouldn't you say?

Hetty58 Mon 04-Sept-23 20:47:13

I'll be happy to vote for just anyone - to get this pathetic bunch of clowns out. That seems to be the general opinion around here anyway.

Iam64 Mon 04-Sept-23 20:50:28

Agree Hetty58, I think many will vote tactically for the candidate most likely to beat the Tory

Gillycats Mon 04-Sept-23 20:56:19

Each to their own but as a disillusioned Labour voter, and paid up union worker (I voted for Lisa Nandy) I won’t vote for them while Starmer and Rayner are at the helm. He keeps changing his mind and she really wouldn’t be great on the international political platform. Calling people scum when you can’t put together a decent argument really isn’t the way forward.

I would never call anybody from any party ā€˜rough and common’, and base my comments about them on that Freya5, would you? There is a huge difference between commenting on a politician’s actions in their job and personal criticism in my book. You’re right though, I’d never vote Tory.

MaizieD Mon 04-Sept-23 21:11:14

Opinions of governments and individuals are totally different matters.

I should think this government cares very much about people's opinions as they'd like to be voted back in. Not that they're doing very well in the approval stakes...

Out of interest, as a fully paid up union member how do you feel about Mick Lynch supporting brexit and telling his party members to do the same. Or are you, like Corbyn anti EU? Lisa Nancy, much as I’ve always liked her, was very much against the people’s vote so, just as you are disillusioned about Starmer and Rayner, I’m disillusioned about Lynch and Nancy.

Hoping Kier can ditch her once he reaches number 10.

Since you appear to know little about Angela Rayner here is an extract from her Wikipedia page.

"Rayner was born and raised in Stockport, where she attended the state secondary Avondale School. She left school aged 16 whilst pregnant and without any qualifications. She later trained in social care at Stockport College and worked for the local council as a care worker. She eventually became a trade union representative within Unison, during which time she joined the Labour Party. Selected to contest Ashton‑under‑Lyne in 2014 and elected for the seat at the 2015 general election, she was appointed Shadow Minister for Pensions by Jeremy Corbyn in January 2016."

It seems to me that she has had more life experience than many of the Tory MPs who went to Oxbridge and have no empathy with a large part of the UK population.

At least she's honest about her view of Starmer.

ā€œTrained in social care at Stockport Collegeā€ šŸ¤”

She got an NVQ Level 2 which is an entry level qualification for people working in care homes etc. It can be completed in a couple of months.

Attlee Mon 04-Sept-23 22:32:41

I admire Angela very much.
She is a solid Labour politician and after the most difficult of starts in life, has achieved so much.
To those who decry her, I would refer you to Gillian Keegan's disgraceful smirking display today.
Angela Rayner is someone who is an inspiration to our girls, our working class and our North

I know it’s Nandy….it was auto correct playing up and I didn’t spot it! I actually wrote to her years ago when I saw her on Question Time because I was so impressed by her but her stance on Brexit disappointed me even though she was only saying that she supported what her constituents had voted for. Strangely enough, I know that it’s only your own MP that’s obliged to reply to you but I often get replies from Conservative MP’s but never from MP’s from other parties. I’ve even had a reply from Nadine Dorries in the past. Because it’s very difficult for Conservative MP’s to not toe the party line I often write and thank them when they do.

Primrose53 Sun 10-Sept-23 16:13:49

I heard this comment today about Angela Rayner and it says it all really

ā€œYou can put lipstick on a pig, but it’s still a pig.ā€ 🤣🤣🤣

Ilovecheese Sun 10-Sept-23 16:43:00

How very unpleasant.

Louella12 Sun 10-Sept-23 17:08:35

I like Angela.

She makes a refreshing change from most of the politicians we have today.

Chocolatelovinggran Sun 10-Sept-23 17:10:34

Goodness Primrose- how are you able to use such a phrase and feel comfortable to judge anyone else as " rough and common "?
It is not language that I would use of anyone, with or without the laughing emoji.

Deedaa Sun 10-Sept-23 21:13:35

Primrose53 Denigrating someone's efforts to overcome their poor start and making insulting comments makes you sound just like a Tory. But you will probably take that as a compliment. I like Angela, she seems like a normal person.

Primrose53 Sun 10-Sept-23 22:17:10

I guess it’s just a more modern take on the old saying ā€œyou can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s earā€. šŸ˜‰
