I guess it’s just a more modern take on the old saying “you can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear”. 😉

No, it isn’t. Not making a silk purse out of a sows ear refers to an object or a task, not a person.

It really isn’t Promrose. Of course that won’t matter to you. You also don’t see the irony in the use of offensive language in an attempt to denigrate a woman who is a positive role model to so many struggling in similar circumstances to the ones she lived through and survived

Well I never knew that!

Barack Obama (amongst other people) used the expression about a pig wearing lipstick still being a pig.

I don't think he was referring to a person, Primrose, although it was about Sarah Palin.

He was referring to the policies she was presenting as something brand new which were just rehashed variations of old policies.

It's a phrase used to criticise political spin.

Sometimes when you are in a hole, it is a much better look to give in gracefully with an apology. I find that you are better thought of.

Quite honestly, the current government have been so dreadful and dragged this country so far down, I no longer care who will be the new PM or deputy. They simply cannot be any worse, although sadly I think our gutter press will have issues with a strong, working class woman. More an indictment of them and our cap- doffing society than of her.

I don't much like Rayner's style but she couldn't be a worse Deputy PM than Raab. She masterminded the defeat of the Tories' attempt to roll back the pollution rules to benefit their bulk housebuilder friends. We need more houses, especially Council houses, but not at the cost of ever increasing river pollution.
