Good Morning Wednesday 30th August 2023

Good morning from an overcast Bristol.
I’m hoping to dry my washing outside today. My bedding was near dry yesterday, when a shower dampened it again!
I made a particularly pretty “maple leaf” square for my quilt.
I stopped taking some tablets (*Marydoll*, they are not lifesaving) and mirabile dictu, the debilitating headaches have stopped. I’m going to collect a prescription later and shall ask to speak to the GP.
The management chap who came for a meeting yesterday, gave me the usual waffle, hogwash and inanities, even using covid as an excuse, for the company’s inefficiency. DD is writing to them to give them a piece of her mind. I hope it works and the bathroom work can start on Monday.
Today, the hospice is collecting some of my surplus furniture. I shall then swap things round and start to empty the “silly cupboard” that I shall eventually remove.

A busy morning as I pack the car and travel to Portsmouth in readiness to catch the ferry to Ouistreham tomorrow. It’s something of a mission of mercy as Ian has investigative surgery on his parathyroid glands next Monday regarding his osteoporosis.

I am off “up country” today with DD and the menfolk for a few days R&R on the coast. We aren’t leaving too early which is fine by me. If I’m absolutely honest, I’ve gone off the idea, but I’ll be ok when we get there I hope.

Good morning from Shropshire.

I had my hair cut and coloured yesterday which was a relief.I wasn’t sure if it would be possible with the cyst but she was happy to do it although agreed it needs removing.

The afternoon was spent sorting out the children’s toys.The baby toys have gone😢some are going to friends of DD, some to the charity shop and a few larger things I put on Facebook to sell.A couple of things went within minutes.

Today will be spent on household jobs and admin😴

Your patchwork is impressive grandMattie.I love that design.I hope your daughter gets somewhere with the management re your bathroom.

Ash I'm sorry to hear that your DH needs tests. They sound quite intrusive too. Safe journey today and tomorrow. Greyduster I hope you enjoy your trip. I often feel like that but enjoy things once I'm there.
Yesterday was busy with the boys. Once I dropped dgs1 off at nursery, dgs2 and I rushed back to his house for a comforter. I had looked in his bag and couldn't find it so we headed back to pick it up. Of course, dd found it in the bag later 🙄. Then we had an hour in the garden making messes or 'helping' grandma water the plants. After that, the man came to measure up my door and gave me the website details. I have chosen a new door already so I just need to phone to find out the (eye watering) prices. He's replacing a panel on the back door too. Then a friend phoned for details of an event we are both going to tomorrow. After the door man left, and dgs2 had gone for a nap, my aunt popped in for a chat. She left and it was time to get dgs2 up and pick his brother up from nursery who had been given a sticker for helping to tidy the nursery. He's being very helpful to all this year's starts too.
Today I have a phone meeting with a lawyer to start the ball rolling with my will and poa. Then this afternoon I'm meeting mum's social worker for the first time. Stir fried chicken tonight. Have a good day all

Good morning from a cloudy s somerset

My green manure seeds have germinated, very quickly this year. The rain came just at the right time, they were older seeds too. Tomatoes are not successful outside this year, they are having to come inside a couple at a time, to live with a banana. They are massive, blight resistant but too big to get red quickly. Not for me next year

This and that today, will be booking boiler service, also walking and sewing later. Cooler out now and I kept waking so a thin extra blanket is going on tonight

Morning all from a wet West Oxfordshire. I think I’m back to my usual sleep pattern - so I should be as I’ve been back from Australia for a week. Our cleaning lady should be coming this morning, I have bits of admin to do and will start the C cake: I will make some peppermint ice cream too. It is my granddaughter’s favourite. We agreed that I would colour half of it green! Our gardener is coming back this evening. She spent two hours pruning the ceanothus yesterday and needs to do more. Thank you all for your good wishes. olddudders was diagnosed with osteoporosis two years ago. The doctors think it’s caused by one (we have four, apparently) of his parathyroid glands blocking absorption of calcium. Scans revealed nodules on them. The plan is to do a biopsy on the largest and keep him under GA while it goes for analysis. Depending on what, if anything, is found will determine next steps.

Good morning from Foxyland where, as next door's builders are yet to arrive, it is blessedly quiet. Last night's Zoom celebration of my BIL's life took the form of a worldwide family chat, but was very moving. His brothers are in Australia and the US, his DIL in Shanghai, his grandchildren all over the US and Canada , cousins in Scotland and me in Bucks. There were a couple of PowerPoints of his early life in the Highlands and of him and my sister and their 3 growing up in Canada right up to the present day - well, May. What blindsided me were two pics of my sister in May. What a cruel disease Dementia is. She was a shell, slack jawed, slumped in a wheelchair and barely recognisable as my slim petite big sister. I was and remain shocked.
Book club bbq today although tomato soup huddled in the kitchen might be more suitable. I made a frozen gelato dessert bit like a chocolate Eton Mess but frozen(Nigella) but had to go out for more meringue nests as the packet I had bought on Monday and "put in a safe place" had disappeared . Still can't find it either. Just got to make the chocolate and Kahlua sauce to drizzle over the top.
I hope today warms up and that it is kind to you all.

Sorry you are not so good Mick, you were doing so well, I hope it’s just a minor blip.

Yesterday we did a riverside walk although it was on a fairly steep incline, we only managed two hours as there was little shade and it was 33 degrees by 12.00.
No otters sadly although apparently there are some ,we did watch an eagle swooping down for its prey, not a golden eagle but a smaller relative.

In the late afternoon we set off for a spot below Ronda so we could take pictures of the town, it was a drive with more stomach churning moments than any Alton Towers ride.

Dinner was in a beautiful square in Ronda, it was off the tourist trail, lots of families and elderly people all together chatting, drinking and children playing, it was lovely to watch as we ate.
I had cold almond and garlic soup with apple croutons followed by Venison loin.

Today is the cave with the ancient drawings, pool time then back to Ronda for our final evening here before our next destination.

I hope you appreciate the photograph, it was the drive from hell to take it and a fairly storming row with my husband as he has no fear when it comes to cars, roads and gorges and can’t appreciate mine!

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞 Northampton; think I will gather up some washing as it should be dry today.

Had a good health walk yesterday afternoon (although the buses played me up again), a good chat over coffee afterwards, and then a fellow walker offered me a lift home.

Phoned a new recommended plumber to come and look at my shower and a wobbly loo, and he is expected after 11 this morning. Also emailed a fencing company to come and give a quote to replace and repair garden fencing.

Then hopefully after lunch out to the well-being cafe.

Good morning everyone, the sun’s just starting to push through the grey clouds here in south Gloucestershire, it’s a very chilly 9°.
Yesterday I went into Bath, the lovely camera shop man sorted me out in minutes 🫣, something very simple but it wasn’t in the instructions 🙄
It’s probably 4 years since I visited Bath and I was dismayed; it’s grubby, full of closed, boarded up shops and few were actually open at 9.30. The only people who looked enthusiastic were tourists, mainly from Japan.
I was back home by mid morning.
I won’t be going in again unless I really have to. I used to visit at least 3 times a month.
Today a dog walk, washing and gardening I think.
Sago I too have a husband like yours when it comes to driving; I have to take travel tablets for anything other than the shortest distance. It makes going out with him an ordeal.
grandMattie I love that patchwork! I don’t have the patience, concentration or the attention to detail to do anything intricate or fiddly nowadays.

3 dying elm trees are being felled in my garden today. I shall stay to watch and miss yarn group.
I stayed in most of yesterday waiting for the plumber who eventually came at 6pm.
I left him to it and went for an evening walk.

I've had one parathyroid gland removed when it started growing and sending wrong messages to the brain The results were instant.

Good morning, it’s been raining overnight but the sky is clearing and it’s 6 degrees, so the heating has clicked on again this morning, I’ll have to keep an eye on the geraniums in case we get an early frost.
We are out today meeting old friends for lunch somewhere in the Cotswolds, it’s only 20 miles away so not too far to travel, I might get time this afternoon to have a bit of a tidy up in the garden.
Safe travels Ash and I hope our DH’s biopsy is ok.
GM why do companies make things so difficult in a property that you own? Unless you are knocking down walls I don’t understand the power they seem to have. I hope it gets sorted soon but a stiff letter will have to suffice.
Sago you’re right the roads to Ronda from the coast and all around are nerve racking for the passenger, try doing it in the fog or snow! No barriers and big drops down into the valley. Lovely when you arrive up there though.
Foxygloves it’s always upsetting to see a loved one who is unwell that you haven’t seen for a long time, we always imagine that they will stay the same as we remember them. Sadly it’s seldom the case.
Maybe light food today might helpMick if the symptoms don’t go, then maybe a call to your team at the JR might be useful?

Enjoyable afternoon at music club yesterday. I put stringed lights on the desk as it was my turn to be in charge (Showtime!)
Someone wanted to video my song, but as I had never sung it before and felt tired after my travelling the day before, I refused. Don’t want to turn up unexpectedly on YouTube 😁

Watched a good film on Netflix called ‘Profile’ which shows how easy it is to come under the influence of someone on the internet if you are young and vulnerable.
Off to doc soon to have a couple of moles checked out.

I feel your pain 😱 I’ve been there many times with me in absolute terror and OH getting angry at my fear.
The strange thing is, I love bridges, especially the Millau spanning the Tarn valley.

All this talk of terrifying drives reminds me of my recent trip to Australia. When I stayed with my brother in Port McQuarrie I had to drive him everywhere in an automatic (I hadn’t driven an automatic for over 10 years) on strange roads. One strange road was a very steep, bendy and slippery road with no barriers and a massive drop. All so we could see a magnificent view. It was worth it but I was shaking a bit. Brother offered to drive back down, which I refused. He doesn’t have a licence any more as his remaining eye only has 40% vision.
