Food costs...am seeing no decrease in prices...perhaps I'm not shopping economically ..
Still waiting on NHS referral appointments - too exhausted to say more

Actually NiceNanny Tory Councils eg Northamptonshire have also issued the same notice of financial problems. And how well have this government of the last 13 years managed the economy? Highest taxes ever, underinvestment in schools leading to schools unsafe and closing at short notice

Think the schools unsafe is how they were put together in the first place. Wonder when they were built, at a guess in the 60s and 70s when that awful substance, concrete, was king. You can't see inside a wall, and didn't Blair chuck them up like confetti. Although by then concrete wasn't so much King. Blame all Gov over the last thirty odd years for putting our kids at risk. For allowing this stuff to be used. Then again I believe it is only certain parts of schools, not the whole building. Bad enough. Our Tory run council still in budget.

Shopping in the veg section of a large supermarket this morning - there was NO regular pre-packed carrots, just huge crates of what can only be described as HORSE CARROTS!
The only smaller packs were Organic at a bloody ridiculous price.

fwiw, I have started buying the organic ones. They last at least 2 weeks in the fridge. A lot longer than the cheaper ones. And taste more carrot and less watery too.
I know that will not be helpful for everyone.

Fleurpepper Tue 05-Sep-23 16:09:43

Agreed - so much less waste, great taste - so actually good value.

MrsThatcher Tue 05-Sep-23 16:10:32

Carrots yes! The ones in Sainsburys look absolutely disgusting with no date on to tell you how old they are. I do buy the organic ones but they can be just as bad!

Hetty58 Tue 05-Sep-23 16:23:34

AuntieFlo, you can report water leaks to - your water company! Katy1949, just don't say 'How are you?'
I don't care about petrol, carrots or cakes - and I don't victim blame migrants either, but there you go.

Annoying? All these little moans about trivial stuff (and a few more important ones) - and all the bold ignorance too. I'm too happy to moan - no real issues to rant about at all, so that's good.

PamelaJ1 Tue 05-Sep-23 16:25:46

Drivers who don’t indicate.

Glamdram Tue 05-Sep-23 16:32:37

Regarding food prices. If a fav food of ours has increased in price. I don't buy it. Find something else.
Dreading when weather gets really cold as was quite depressing last year wandering bout with scarves on and layers of clothes.

People who phone me and I say 'Hello. How are you?' And they tell me. For more than an hour sometimes, without asking how me and mine are, and then saying 'Anyway must go. I'll ring you next week'. Oh good. Can't wait.

That was my mother.
Every detail of her week, every course she and Dad had to eat at a restaurant, medical details I really didn't want to hear...
Then if I tried to tell her anything about us or her three grandchildren, suddenly she had to go 🙄🤷

silversurf Tue 05-Sep-23 16:40:16

Tried phoning docs today. About a prescription I had ordered online.Attached pharmacy no answering at all. Tried twice.
Then tried reception, number 8 in queue, waited 45 minutes until I was number 1,then cut off. Grrrrr.

merlotgran Tue 05-Sep-23 16:45:37

The cost of the ferry to the Isle of Wight. 😡😡

^remember the note left my the last Labour Government 😊 ^

I feel like ranting every time this comes up (Cameron used to reference it at every opportunity, until he skipped off blithely humming into his retirement as PM, leaving others to deal with the fallout from his ruddy referendum).

It was a joke. A tradition of notes being left for the next Chancellor since (Tory) Reginald Maudling wrote this one for his Labour successor James Callaghan in 1964: "Good luck, old cock ... Sorry to leave it in such a mess."

Thank you for setting the record straight. I was going to - so annoying to hear this tired old trope again and again.

For the record, I'm not even a Labour voter, but this simplistic belief that Labour Bad / Tories Good on the basis of that silly note is just ridiculous. And Cameron knows better but knew it would play well.

Oh boy, I wish we could have some serious and honest politicians with a bit of gravitas... from any party.

nadateturbe Tue 05-Sep-23 16:47:50

Just been to the shops. Our local sainsbury has installed more self service paypoints, spaced so that you can comfortably put a big trolley shop through. Only two manned checkouts now, just one open today.
So annoyed.

Kate1949 Tue 05-Sep-23 16:48:55

Hetty Just because we have a rant about 'trivialities' doesn't mean we haven't got any big problems.

boheminan Tue 05-Sep-23 16:50:32

The hot weather brings out the neighbours and their barbecues. I can't stand the fumes, nor the stench of meat cooking, so I have to stay indoors with windows and doors closed. I don't get why they can't cook the stuff in their indoor oven and take it outside to eat!

3dognight Tue 05-Sep-23 16:58:57

People who play very loud music in their gardens when it’s a heatwave, this wouldn’t have usually bothered me, but for some reason now I struggle to ‘share their joy’ (being a grumpy old so and so these days.)

oh and the largest City Council in Europe!! Birmingham has gone broke!!

*A Labour Council, never trust the Labour Party where money is concerned, remember the note left my the last Labour Government 😊*

It was a joke. How many times does that have to be repeated!

MayBee70 Tue 05-Sep-23 17:04:22

Sorry: didn’t read what Dickens had posted because I just get so angry when someone repeats it and I’ll never forgive Cameron for waving the note about on tv knowing that it was a joke….

When DH’s brother was ill his oncologist told him to only buy carrots that were organic: we buy them from Tesco’s and they last for ages.

SueDonim Tue 05-Sep-23 17:07:05

Petrol is going up because Saudi and Russia have cut back on production. The price of Brent Crude hit $90 today. It’s annoying but that’s the rules of supply and demand.

I’m irritated by the chemist’s who dispenses our prescriptions. They never get it right. It’s taken three visits so far for Dh to get one of his meds and he’s still not been given it, despite their system saying it’s ready. 🤷‍♀️

Lesley60 Tue 05-Sep-23 17:12:25

People parking in disabled bays without a blue badge, I have one due to my numerous physical problems and mobility issues and the number of times I haven’t been able to go into a shop due to all the disabled bays being taken up by people without a badge is appalling.
These are both young and old, I’ve seen a young family with a load of kids and also elderly couples who think they are entitled to these parking spaces due to their age.
I often feel like the badge police I’ve complained in supermarkets about this saying they should put it on the tannoy, but nothing gets done ,and usually if you say anything to the driver you get a load of abuse, in my opinion it’s selfish and thoughtless.

kittylester Tue 05-Sep-23 17:33:12

Negativity! Currently, one of my brothers and my friends husband are both being really negative about situations and it drives me nuts.

I realise that it is probably just their nature but it's flipping hard work.

We have a large Morrisons near us that has NO manned checkouts. I won't ship there

Auntieflo Tue 05-Sep-23 17:49:51

Hetty58 the leak was reported. Three different visits were made. Arms stuck down hole, then withdrawn. Cover replaced over gushing leak, and off they went. Until today. A large hole had been dug, protected by barriers. The leak has stopped. No doubt they will return tomorrow.

Powdery mildew has attacked my pride and joy ornamental gourds, and I’m very upset. 😢
I’m annoyed about the state of public transport, my son is on his way home today via a bus and two trains, and it never goes without at least one delay/cancellation/hitch.

Fears confirmed. The train from Manchester this afternoon was cancelled, so he’s now on a later train which was half a hour later leaving than it should have been, with double the passengers, packed in like sardines. He’s arriving at 8.30 instead of 7.00. So annoying.
