There’s a Rudolf Steiner school near here. It is a bit ‘alternative’ but quite popular and has been there for many, many years. They don’t teach kids to read and write until they are quite old and there is a bit of fairly unusual philosophy taught. Arty kids would love it and they would thrive. A few friends sent their kids there back in the day when my kids were at high school. The ones I came across seemed happy and well adjusted but there were a few difficulties with University entrance then because the curriculum was different. Maybe that has changed, though.
The school I mentioned is in Australia and the anecdote is recent too.
Perhaps they're more alternative over there.
