Firstly let me say that no way hosay is this post a Woe is me post.
Right, so I have M.S and am starting to find walking round our local Asda hard work.. soooo I decided to take along a little camping stool so when I needed to sit, I had something to sit on ( either that or park my derriere on a crate of beans )
The time arrives when I am needing to sit and rest for 5....6 minutes, out of my trolley comes my camping stool, I set it up alongside the shelves of biscuits. Picture the scene.... there is moi sat on the stool in the biscuit aisle, while various shoppers pass with their trolley's, 99.9% smile the other 1% looks at me like I have lost the plot !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( hahahaha )
I don't want to get a delivery nor use 1 of the store scooters, I need to walk and use my legs and if it means resting on my camping stool then so be it.....
My friend said *Thank goodness you didn't put up your tent and start cooking a BBQ" hahahahahaha.
So my question is... what lengths have you gone to to rectify matters?
You put a HUGE smile on my face and Iโve sat down in all manner of places ! Iโm getting a camping stool. I do have ALL my shopping delivered, I loathe shipping of all types xx
Shopping, of course, not shipping !!
Ahhhhhhh scrap that idea.... i thought that in Asda they do provide scooters, wheelchairs and they all wear a Happy to help badge..
So really i suppose they do have issues covered.
They could always provide camping stools at the entrance hahahahaha.
Im not going to bother raising the issue email now....

My dad had a walker which kept him well and mobile for quite a few years. I was so proud of him for using it.
I use a Walker with a seat , I walk slowly with a stick but can zip along with my Wheels ๐ and sit down if someone stops to talk to me
i was diagnosed with lymphedema earlier this year, my legs ankles and feet are so swollen that i had to start using a walker as i kept falling, now i have my seat all the time, i used it when i was in the meat section and it was a hot day, lovely and cool.
I have Atritis in most of my joints, and bought a shopping trolley with a fold down seat. This works a treat and I can have a rest when I need one . Most people admire it, and some even ask where I bought it (Ebay).
I also have a Power Chair for days when I don't feel up to the 2 mile round trip to the shops/library/medical centre. When I use this, I push the chair round the shops, using the seat as my basket. This makes it easier to reach things on the shelves, or out of cabinets, while still giving me support. I walk the journey at least once a week, to make sure that I don't get worse at walking, even though I suffer afterwards.
Similar problems with me too, Serendipity! I've got arthritic-type aches and pains, and feel 'wobbly' walking without support. I use a fold-up walking stick for very short distances, and a rollator with a built-in seat for walking any distance at all, but find that a shopping trolley does the same job as a rollator when doing a supermarket shop. I leave the rollator in the back of the car when doing a weekly shop, as it's awkward to get out, and try to park very close to where the trolleys are stored. I can usually get round the supermarket without needing to sit down, but have needed to occasionally. There used to be two handy seats next to the pharmacy in my local Sainsburys, but that's just been closed, so no seats. There were also two after the checkouts, next to the shopping scooters, then there was one... and the next time I went...none. I usually get myself sorted out after the checkouts; rearrange the shopping so I can lift the bags into the car easily, separate stuff for the food bank, put away my cards and receipt neatly, as I try not to be too slow and hold everyone up at the checkout, and can get a bit flustered. So I was quite tired and achy when I couldn't find a chair last time, and rather cheesed off.
A few days before, I'd been to Lidl, using my rollator, as I'd parked there when I had to go some distance to the building next door but also needed a few small items from Lidl too. I found that Lidl didn't have any suitable shopping baskets to put on the rollator seat, they were all far too big, and getting the rollator back in the car and swapping for a shopping trolley was just too much bother. I left in a bit of a strop. So my Sainsbury's shop was the second time that week that I'd found that having just a minor disability can make things so unnecessarily difficult.
So I decided that there was no point in being annoyed, if I did nothing about it, and headed for Customer Services, to politely ask for the seats to be reinstated, please. But saw there was a queue, and was by then too tired to stand, so accosted a lady who looked like a manager, and put in my request for the re-instatement of the seats. I'm not quite sure if she got it. I probably don't look very much like 'a little old arthritic lady' or a disabled person, but as it's not obvious, it needs to be explained, otherwise things won't change was my thinking.
Next time I go to Sainsbury's, I might take a leaf out of your book and put my little old camping stool in the the shopping trolley 'just in case' - though I'm not quite sure if I'll be able to get up from it without some help!
And I think the emails are a great idea. I'll be contributing.

I've found myself in a similar situation more than one, so I'm looking into getting a Rollator, 3 wheeled push along WITH A SEAT!
I have a rollator and it's a very efficient way of getting around and then being able to sit down when necessary. I take it on holiday, visiting a garden centre, doing gardening etc, anywhere that I would need to sit down to have a 5 mins rest. Try it and it will prove to be very helpful for you. The item folds flat so can easily be put into a car boot plus they have a basket under the seat which is also very useful for carrying items.
I'm sure if you wrote to the manager (mentioning your condition ) he would consider putting out chairs, or., at least, hopefully reply giving his reasons for not putting them out. Our supermarket has a little bench in the middle. They used to have a water cooler next to it, but that seems to have gone - either because it has changed hands or due to COVID.
They could always provide camping stools at the entrance
Thats a brilliant idea. Like those folding chairs that are lined up in the foyers of museums. Surely anything that could prolong the customers' stay in the shop would be embraced by the management.
Blimey ....
So i am not alone in this particular situation! Yesterday i took on the mode of ohh i wont bother sending an email but now, after reading these i am back on the YES, I WILL SEND OUT THE EMAILS
LancsLass your post was brilliantly understood, i was right there with you. It's hard work when you appear 'normal' and yet you have disability running through you like a stick of Blackpool rock....... and its so frustrating to feel you have to 'prove' you're in need of A,B & C.
I am going to continue to carry my camping stool in my trolley and if the security man descends upon me and accuses me of shoplifting I WILL CLOBBER HIM WITH MY STICK ! ๐๐คฃ๐

Ohhhhh we HAVE to see the funny side of things, well I do, definitely.
I think I will start a group called THE CAMPING STOOL BRIGADE ๐๐คฃ๐
