Why does no one use their garden in tv soaps?

I enjoy eastenders and coronation street but always wonder why no one ever goes into their garden!

I haven't seen a soap for very many years. Didn't Arthur Fowler of Eastenders have an allotment. Probably because they don't have gardens.

Judy Mallett (played by Gaynor Faye) had twins with husband Gary. She had a blood clot in her leg and died suddenly in the garden, hanging out laundry.

What a good spot. I hadn’t noticed. Your right, they never do and they’re never out walking with a dog which seems the fashion today. They could have loads of outdoor settings, park, garden, school or even a gym.

I think I’ve got that right. I don’t think she was murdered but I think Carla was worried about insurance or something. Because the factory wasn’t insured for sleeping in. I think. It must be twenty years ago now.

It’s a long time ago DD. Carla recruited some Eastern Europeans to work in the factory and one of them was secretly sleeping in the factory as she had nowhere to live. She had an accident one night, think she might have fallen downstairs or something. Anyway Carla and somebody else found her in the morning and hid the body. I can’t remember where. But I think they were having building work done, but I might be wrong there. Anyway the factory has definitely burnt down and collapsed on more than one occasion since. We (Mr M) definitely thought they would develop that story but it’s disappeared into oblivion.

Nobody ever found the Polish girl who died in the factory years ago. Carla and someone else hid the body somewhere. The body in Gail’s garden was actually under the floor in the converted garage which became Gail’s bedroom. That body was found.
I wonder if Teddy’s body will turn up? Looks a bit like Stephen is going to escape again, to Thailand this time.

Well Probably because it either has a body buried in it, or a big sink hole or people are too busy having affairs left right and centre. I gave up with the soaps a year ago.

That was Brookside - the wife-beater Trevor Jordache was killed by his wife and buried there.

And nannafizz is right, they down the alcohol like water. It's a wonder they are all upright!

They never finish a meal either!

That's fine though because I hate watching people eat on screen!

Also so few scenes filmed at night. Couples will be out on a first date, or having a special anniversary or birthday meal, and it's always at lunchtime!

I think most of them prefer the pub to be honest😂

Oh yes, wasn't Charlene's brother a gardener? Henry in Neighbours. He always wore dungarees and used to hose the plants.

Well they use their gardens a lot in the Aussie soaps. They are out there having barbeques or swimming in their pools! I don't watch UK soaps, too depressing and not enough bubbles.

Simple - these are frontages , the interior scenes are filmed in a studio.

Yes it must be because they’re in the studio filming most of the time. I don’t watch CS very often now but when I do I’ve noticed they rarely leave the ‘Street’. I remember a whole episode when Fred took Bet Lynch & Betty out for a picnic in the ‘Rover’ and Mrs Walkers Rover ended up in the lake.
