Uncanny TV programme about the supernatural BBC2

Did anyone see the new programme called Uncanny last night about supernatural things? It started as podcasts by Danny Robins & was so popular it now has its own tv series. I've believed in these sort of things since my mum & her sister stayed at Margells, a landmark trust house in Devon, then I had my own experience in a Manor House open to the public in Oxfordshire. This is a topic long overdue a serious study and I thought the program was excellent. Basically the person with the experience told us what had happened & Danny asked questions to make sure the story was clear then well qualified sceptics & believers were asked what they made of the story. Some things could be explained rationally, some couldn't. Most weirdly one woman as a child saw a woman in her house & knew her name. She moved out, then a second girl with no connection to the 1st family moved in with her family & had the same experience, even down to the name! Uncanny indeed

It was fascinating. I've had a few experiences myself, first one as a child aged 10. Other experiences as an adult. So I don't decry those who have had similar experiences, rather I like to know more.

I may have a peep at this. always been interested but a bit scared also....

I listened to the podcasts, fascinating.

Fascinating story of the woman in the house ( Miss Howard)
I know that feeling of a ghost looking at you. I knew who the man was who I saw, he turned his head and looked at me.
The second one was a cat. It was my friends cat.

I'd love to know more of your experiences! I thought the Miss Howard story was really good, especially since two completely different families met the same person & knew her name

There’s a whole ‘spooky stories’ thread on MN, started fairly recently. Some very interesting stories, plus of course the inevitable sprinkling of scoffing sceptics.

Fascinating stuff. But I have to be careful what I watch as I am easily spooked. confused

That sounds great witzend! Where can I find it? I'm the same henetha, I have to limit how much I read about it

Sounds good yes I’ve had a few experiences that I can say were fascinating. One where at my brothers funeral I could see him on his bike watching the cortège my husband later told me he’d seen him also.

I have had several experiences which I can’t explain. The very personal ones have been very comforting to me.

My lovely cat had to be put to sleep on late August and since then I’ve heard her meow and felt her walk across my bed ( she always slept with me) We have two other cats and they have acted several times as if they are really spooked and we think they have seen her around the house

I've got that ready to watch. It's right up my street, as long as it's not one of those 'Paranormal' ones that have people acting that they've just seen a ghost, they really annoy me!!

Witzend Mon 16-Oct-23 07:53:39

I ended up switching it off before the end. I thought the ‘Miss Howard’ story was entirely convincing, but I found the presenter annoying - over dramatic - and I don’t see why a programme like this has to have a professional sceptic trying to debunk everything.

Disappointing, because I was really looking forward to this series.
I will try the podcasts instead.

i've now watched it on podcast and convinced with the mrs howard story. I wondered why there was no mention of the children, as they were back then, telling their parents at the time, surely you would.

didn't like the presenter either.

spabbygirl Mon 16-Oct-23 13:22:29

How lovely to have your cat still around Twiceasnice, I wish our old dog Millie was still here in any way. She slept with us too.
I liked it because it had a sceptic but there were some things even he couldn't explain. I know what you mean about the presenter, he seems to wear a lot of red which I don't like, but over the years I've trained myself not to worry about presenters on tv that I don't like, I miss out otherwise

TwiceAsNice Mon 16-Oct-23 13:40:08

Thank you spabbygirl I feel sorry for the other cats but I do feel Amie is still here in some way which is helping my grieving as I so miss her

In the Chat MN thread IIRC.
You probably have to register first.

Yes,was really good. Ive had a few experiences both as a child and adult....

NemosMum Tue 17-Oct-23 11:26:03

It's entertainment with scriptwriters - don't be gulled!

missdeke Tue 17-Oct-23 11:28:57

I've not had any 'experiences' but I would love to. I would never scoff at anyone who says they have but I would love to have proof for myself.

polnan Tue 17-Oct-23 11:37:51

Twiceasnice... I have similar experiences with my dog.
I feel her near me quite often

Nannan2 Tue 17-Oct-23 12:15:47

We used to feel the prescence ofa cat we had taken in after it died, felt it brush past our legs, or a cat flashing past a doorway, not our own current black cat- but as he was around with the other cat before its death i think he saw/felt it too. We just moved ou of a victorian house where someone must have passed on over the years, lights would flicker etc and doors open after been closed etc, and our cat was defintely spooked often- he didnt like to be left downstairs on his own anymore either(dont think it was the ghost cat though as that was his friend) whoever it was didnt feel like there was any malice in them.

spabbygirl Tue 17-Oct-23 13:00:35

Witzend I'd love to join in, but is that a mum's net thread? Is that 11 RC or ii RC?

NemosMum, yes there is a certain amount of entertainment, but lots of us have also had experiences we can't explain & its good to see this covered as a serious
programme

yellowfox Tue 17-Oct-23 14:58:13

I agree with Witzend that the programme was over dramatised. It was a supposdly true and serious recollection but the spooky effects took away from the seriousness of it.
Definately interesting and something unexplainable.

Valkimob Tue 17-Oct-23 15:29:45

It's all nonsense , nothing that can't be explained
